The Cotton Club 3.5 Stars
It's a bit over the top (the acting, the dialogue) in places, maybe even cheesy. It also gets a bit muddled in the middle. It all comes together very nicely, though, in a final number that predicts Chicago, also with Gere, sixteen years later. Great fun.

Can't believe I waited for 13 years to watch this. It's almost everything you could hope a De Niro-vs-Pacino heist-on-the-streets-of-LA movie would be.

Gets better, and sweeter, and funnier every time I watch it. Recently found DVD in a bargain bin for six dollars. The first scene contains some the most brilliant examples of dialog advancing the plot, and setting up the entire rest of the film, I've ever heard.
