this is a vastly underrated film. complex and entertaining, there was depth to the characters. despite their warrior hearts, they were human like anyone else.Tristen is a brilliant character, the battle scenes are excellent.

fantastic film. winner of 12 japanese academy awards, this one has a great ending. not as good as the film yomada made right before this one, but a great flick with a deeper story than many samurai films.

Million Dollar Baby (2004,  PG-13)
Million Dollar Baby 4.0 Stars
a great film, one of the best of 04' without question. swanks performance was truly oscar worthy and freeman and eastwood rekindled the chemistry they had in unforgiven nearly 15 years earlier. a sad story, still it was one of determination. with hard work anyone can change their stripes.

Jersey Girl (2004,  PG-13)
Jersey Girl 3.5 Stars
i absolutely loved this flick. i found the film to be a bit uncomfortble at times and affleck gave a typical boring performance of affleckian measure, but everything else about this film touched me quite a bit. i have been slowly growing to love liv tyler over the last year when as recent as two years ago she was one of my least favorite actresses of all time, and this film put me over the top. tyler was the best part of the film and im now convinced of her sexyness and charm as an actress. each of the other performances save afflecks were also very good and the film brought me smiles.

this movie obviously piggybacked off of nemo's success, which made me not want to like it, but it was a darn good film. i enjoyed it alot, even more than my 2 and a half year old that got bored about half way through. worth watching.

Kill Bill, Volume 2 (2004,  R)
Kill Bill, Volume 2 3.0 Stars
just as good as the first. also just as bad as the first. these movies are slightly above average, which coming from me means that on some level i really enjoyed them, but they were not without their problems. the scene in the graveyard was horrible, and the end would have been far more poetic if it had gone very differently. i did enjoy the samurai style of the filming and the best part of these movies was the part i thought i would hate the most, which was the directing. the superhero speach at the end was also great. i dont like tarantino but the direction was incredible in this film. the cinematography and art direction were also fantastic. some of the story was great and other points were so silly that i couldnt enjoy them. in the end this was a solid film worth watching, but not quite as great as most would lead you to believe.

Raise Your Voice (2004,  PG)
Raise Your Voice 2.5 Stars
entertaining but very typical in every regard. if youve seen a performance movie about singing, dancing, playing an instrument, or even many sports movies, then youve seen this. it follows every prescription to a fault, making everything about this movie extremely predictable and corny. when is someone going to do something different for a change?

Ocean's Twelve (2004,  PG-13)
Ocean's Twelve 2.5 Stars
this was a decent flick, but it was inconsistent. parts of it were great and parts were terrible. it was fun watching all of these great actors do another film together, and their chemistry on screen is great. the plot was only average and some of the diologue was terrible. not only was some of the diologue poorly written, it was filled with some glaring flaws. but even with a weak plot and shaky diologue i found myself really entertained through the film. some of the lines and conversations in this one were really funny, and i thought bringing in zeta-jones was a good idea. in the end, it was an average movie.
