The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008,  PG-13)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Every frame is epic.
I will remember this movie for all my life.

More to come.

The Dark Knight (2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
I have now been waiting over 10 months for this film to come out, since I saw the first teaser trailer in last august. The teaser that made me hear for the first time Heath Ledger's laughter as the Joker in the Batman Begins sequel. From that moment on, I instantly became obsessed with The Dark Knight. And I've waited. I've seen religiously every possible clip of the movie during the months of waiting, and I now know both of the theatrical trailers by heart.

And now I've seen it. First day it's in theatres, best seat in the whole place, and ready to love what I've already put trust in. I couldn't have seen the movie on IMAX screen, because in Quebec, it's only in IMAX on august 15. But still?

Oh my god. And by God, I mean Heath Ledger. He was born to incarnate the Joker, and perhaps he was even meant to die for his role. Because his incarnation of the Joker only deserves to go down in history. What a great loss. He was one of the most promising actors of our time. But he has left behind a perfect and disturbingly scary performance that made me shake on my seat in every of his scene.

Every other performance was great, especially Christian Bale's, which are always excellent. Maggie Gyllenhaal, by the way, is a much better Rachel Dawes than Katie Holmes.

Christopher Nolan, who has become one of my favourite directors and writers (if not MY favourite writer) has signed a true piece of art with a directing job as perfect as his previous accomplishments and a really believable and imaginative screenplay.

I loved the way the screenplay developed Aaron Eckart?s Harvey Dent in the villain Two-Face, which was also totally reinvented by the genuine Nolan.

The Dark Knight is a modern masterpiece, a comic book adaptation that is everything but ordinary. It?s darker, scarier and more disturbing than ever. Plus, it has recreated one of the best villains of the cinematic history.

The only question left is? Will Christopher Nolan be able to do better than that for the last opus of his trilogy ?

Revolutionary Road (2008,  R)
4
Slumdog Millionaire (2008,  R)
5
Milk (2008,  R)
Milk
Perfection.
A film to remember.
I don't really know what to say, it really blinded me. Sean Penn was marvelous, Emile Hirsch, awesome, and Josh Brolin and James Franco were really great.

I'm usually not a fan of Gus Van Sant, but I fell in love with his directing achievement through this movie.

I loved every minute of it.
6
The Wrestler (2008,  R)
The Wrestler
Very, very beautiful film.
Mickey Rourke is astonishing.
7
WALL-E (2008,  G)
8
Frost/Nixon (2008,  R)
Frost/Nixon
I am so glad to have finally got around this academy-award nominated movie.
This was a stunning cinematic accomplishement. Frost/Nixon talks about a very serious subject, and Ron Howard managed to show it as beautifully as it was entertaining. Some hilarious moments and some other pretty emotional scenes that made me fall instantly in love with this movie.
This has got to be the very best film of Ron Howard's with A Beautiful Mind.
He very much let down on me with Angels & Demons, but after this, I will be looking anxiously once again for his next project.

And finally, what a great cast. Frank Langella has been playing this very same role for many years now, performing Richard Nixon in a play, but still, what an incredible performance. Martin Sheen also is a very talented actor and he puts on an impressing performance here.

This is not the best film of 2008, but it is still near perfection. I totally loved it.
9
Doubt (2008,  PG-13)
10
The Reader (2008,  R)
11
Tout est parfait (2008,  Unrated)
12
In Bruges (2008,  R)
In Bruges
WHAT THE HELL ?!
Since when can Colin Farrell act ? Well, he gave a really great performance here.
The film itself was quite a suprise too, a very smart screenplay and a great directing job from the newcomer Martin McDonagh.
Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes were both awesome too.

Overall, a surprisingly amazing movie, almost perfect in its genre. Plus, it was one of the most hilarious movies I've seen in the last years.
13
Changeling (2008,  R)
14
C'est Pas Moi, Je le Jure! (It's Not Me, I Swear!) (2008,  Unrated)
C'est Pas Moi, Je le Jure! (It's Not Me, I Swear!)
Completely magistral, you all should see this.
15
Burn After Reading (2008,  R)
Burn After Reading
Don't expect anything big and smart, I tell you, the Coen brothers definitely decided to take things a little less seriously. Don't see that as a bad movie, just as a pause, between No Country For Old Men and another more... serious project.

Anyways, it is not a bad movie. It has some hilarious scenes and acting performances. And DON'T try to find any sense in the story, there is none. And that's the point. You'll see it around the end of the movie.
I really liked it, but I really start to wait anxiously for their new movie, which I hope will be better.
16
Låt den Rätte Komma In (Let the Right One in) (2008,  R)
17
Iron Man (2008,  PG-13)
Iron Man
The biggest suprise I had this year. Very good and as everyone is saying, one of the best comic book adaptation.
But The Dark Knight is gonna be so much better.
18
Valkyrie (2008,  PG-13)
19
Maman est Chez le Coiffeur (2008,  Unrated)
20
W. (2008,  PG-13)
W.
It really looks like Stone didn't take all of his time to give the film what it could have had. Seems like he really wanted the film out for the few last weeks of Bush's presidency.

But then again, I understand, because the film really succeed to make us realize that, finally, the most powerful man on earth is actually a stupid asshole...

Yeah, who didn't know that ?

Oliver Stone still has the touch to make a strong movie, directing strong actors.

Josh Brolin is really great, and yet, could have been better.

Disappointing.

Too early.

But to watch, and everybody should find something to really appreciate in W. .
21
Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008,  PG-13)
22
Rachel Getting Married (2008,  R)
Rachel Getting Married
Great screenplay and amazing performances, mostly by Anne Hathaway who brought powerful moments on screen.

But I wasn't pleased at all with Demme's diretcting job. I hate this hand-camera style.
I can't see any form of art in it.
23
Blindness (2008,  R)
Blindness
The goddamn soundtrack... ugh.

I wish they wouldn't have used any music track for this film. It would have been great, instead of very good.

P.S. I love Julianne Moore.
24
Pineapple Express (2008,  R)
25
RocknRolla (2008,  R)
RocknRolla
Enjoyed it a lot.
26
Quantum of Solace (2008,  PG-13)
Quantum of Solace
A transition film from Casino Royale to the next James Bond movie. It's pretty much the only James Bond movie taht follows the story of it's predecessor, and what we immediately do is compare it to Casino Royale, which is pretty much the best James Bond since I can't remember when. But I still loved it, and I still think Daniel Craig is an amazing Bond.
And I was very pleased with the direction from Marc Forster and the soundtrack.
27
Body of Lies (2008,  R)
Body of Lies
Ridley Scott, decent.
Leonardo DiCaprio, above average, as always.
Russell Crowe, pretty goddamn great and hilarious.

I really liked that movie. It doesn't bring anything new to the genre, but it's still surprising and visually stunning.
28
Ben X (2007,  Unrated)
Ben X
Impressively good, I really liked it.
29
Tropic Thunder (2008,  R)
30
Martyrs (2008,  R)
31
Step Brothers (2008,  R)
32
Cloverfield (2008,  PG-13)
Cloverfield
Very good movie. Surely not as perfect as some people would say, but it kept its promises. The camera made us believe that we were part of the intense story, which was fantastic ! Other than that, it was entertaining, original, and too much short. One hour and fifteen minutes is not far from being enough...
33
Wanted (2008,  R)
Wanted
James McAvoy is the best.
34
Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2) (2008,  PG-13)
35
Australia (2008,  PG-13)
36
Bolt (2008,  PG)
37
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008,  PG-13)
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Well, well.
Is Steven Spielberg becoming obsessed with aliens ? See for yourself.

Extremely good action scenes, especially the chase in the jungle. Cate Blanchett can't be bad, even with all these cliché lines.
The presence of Shia Labeouf was interesting and Harrison Ford was simply decent.

Deceiving. Blockbuster.
Still good. Still Indy.
38
21 (2008,  PG-13)
21
Disappointing on some levels, but it couldn't have been more entertaining than that. Good job from the actors, especially from Jim Sturgess.

A movie to watch over and over.
39
Twilight (2008,  PG-13)
Twilight
A second viewing really opened my eyes to how this movie really sucks.
There really isn't anything good about this movie, except that it's now so fun to watch, because it's so awful. I laughed my heart out while checking the actors trying to be decent. They failed.

Still a bit fun to watch, to remind me how the books are good. But this movie is terrible. And New Moon won't even top this one, for it's directed by the American Pie guy...
40
The Incredible Hulk (2008,  PG-13)
The Incredible Hulk
Dynamic directing, and good screenplay.

I really like Edward Norton, he brought something more to the movie.

BUT it was simply good, not great and I still liked better the Ang Lee's version.
41
Vantage Point (2008,  PG-13)
Vantage Point
Satisfying but not great.
Still very entertaining.
42
Eagle Eye (2008,  PG-13)
Eagle Eye
Decent Shia Laboeuf.

Nothing reinvented in this.
Some good scenes are spoiled by some other awful moments.
43
Hancock (2008,  PG-13)
Hancock
Better than I thought. I really like Will Smith, even when he acts like a prick that takes his roles for the cash.
44
What Happens in Vegas (2008,  PG-13)
45
Lakeview Terrace (2008,  PG-13)
46
Jumper (2008,  PG-13)
Jumper
I told myself that it couldn't be as bad as the critics said. But I was wrong.
How the hell could the same guy that did The Bourne Identity made this piece of crap ?

Anyway, Hayden Christensen is sexy.
47
The Forbidden Kingdom (2008,  PG-13)
The Forbidden Kingdom
A complete waste of time.
48
Dans une galaxie près de chez vous 2 (2008,  G)
