I can't agree more that this is a real shocking film. The idea of having your country's youth in some slaughter game created by their own fathers, is a thing kind of hard to digest, specially by the fathers out there, and of course 'grown ups' in general. that was probably why it was to be banned by the japanese government before its release, and after its release, which only contributed more to its success. I find it a bit overrated nevertheless. People foccus on its controversy, where there are friends killing friends on adults demand, which is simply mindblowing and shocking, but then, on the other hand, its all about gore and psycho killers, nothing Japan haven't shown us already.
i loved the animation effect this film had, an excelent idea. now, the film isn't superb because the schizo twists is nothing new to the cinema today, and although the ending was surprising, it was nothing new either. gave it 4 stars anyway, since the concept, acting and storyline were pretty interesting and impressive.
really good. i only regret it wasn't as scary as i thought it would be, as i recall being afraid of watching it when i was a kiddo. loved the special effects, but not so much the alien itself. there were times you get to distiguinsh its an hand playing a puppet. i still love it anyway.
for me, the best one of the saga. yea, it has more action paced moments, and less chilling ones. it loses something for that. but i just loved the way it keeps your heart pumping from scene to scene.
it really should have ended with the third. its not bad, but it isn't that much good either. it is over-fantasized, too much unlikely, and it is way out of the original Alien context. Jeunet also added some comedic lines, which was stupid, for what was supposed to be an horror sci-fi. 2 and half stars because the alien creature was way better recreated than any previous Alien. hurrah to modern special effects...
this just didn't made that "click" on me. the film seemed kinda forced in some aspects, like dialogs that seemed fake, or the graphic overraction on the "diseased" blind people behavior. overall the film was ok, giving us a view on what could be the extreme reactions to such sudden unability. yet, since it was from the creator of City of God, and it was based on a novel by Saramago (a nobel prize winner, and most of all, a portuguese), i had put great expectations on it, so i may say i felt somewhat disapointed on the result. could've been worse though.
a real thrill! i only regret the fast motion that was applied too many times through out the film, and the guy who looked like conan the barbarian, as the bad boss..
i think my opinion will be the black sheep of all the others opinions: for me this was the best of the three. although with a car chase that was almost copy paste from a another car chase at Mad Max 2, i still found it better, because it foccused more on the story and cinematography, instead only on the action type deal.
