Movies That Made Me Teary-Eyed
These movies either brought me to tears, got my eyes watery, or at least choked me up. (I included movies that made me cry when I was little, too. So you'll see Land Before Time, American Tail, and Lion King on this list.)

The Passion of the Christ (2004, R)
This movie focused way too much on the physical suffering of Christ instead of the spiritual battle that was going on inwardly. Christ died an excruciating death for our sins... but the movie didn't talk much about WHY He did it and what His death means. I would have liked it a lot more if Mel Gibson focused more of the significance of His death instead of the physical pain He felt. |

The Second Chance (2006, PG-13)
I love the arogance of the pastors, the leasson they learned: "love your enemy." The humility when they washed one another's feet. That part brought me to tears. I love how the white pastor was clueless and ignorant, caught up in his own little world, and the black pastor who cared deeply for the drug dealers and prostitutes. |

Anne Frank: The Whole Story (2001, Unrated)
Even though I couldn't possibly imagine what it might be like to be stripped of your humanity and degraded like an animal, this movie captures a picture of what it might be like in a concentration camp. I couldn't stop crying at the part where Anne was separated from her family and then when she did all she could to keep her sister alive while people stole their food and clothes and fleas infested her body and scabies and typhoid. Reading Anne's diary before seeing the movie helped me feel that I knew her. She was so much like me and so wise beyond her years. I enjoyed finding random quotations from her diary laced through the movie. It was a very accurate and startling portrayal. |

The Quiet Room (1996, Unrated)
I cried my eyes out. After the movie was over, my parents came into my room and sat on my bed. They asked me why I cried so much during this movie and if it was because I really related to the main character. We had a long family discussion until 3 AM about how they will try not to fight anymore and reassured me that they wouldn't get a divorce. The movie was so good that I rented it a couple times from the library after seeing it. Then, I recently bought it at a video store because I wanted to add it to my collection. It is a good movie to watch and then talk about after with your kids. |
