Dying Young (1991,  R)
Dying Young
"Dying Young" The soundtrack alone is enough to make you watch this movie over and over again. Why not just buy the soundtrack? You might ask, the scenes' and the music fit together like a beautiful puzzle and its cinematic magic to watch the music and the scenery in unison.
Julia Roberts gives "in my opinion" her best performance as Hilary, a woman who pretends to be a nurse so she can get a job as a live in caretaker to a man with leukemia `unbeknownst to her at the time" after her boyfriend cheats on her and she leaves him. Campbell Scott is heart breakingly convincing and a pleasure to watch as Victor the handsome young man she is going to be taking care of. The chemistry between the two is wonderful, at times you can feel Victor's yearning for Hilary so strongly that you want to reach out and touch her for him. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous as is the film itself..
This movie never fails to touch my heart. It is a tear jerker but a lot of times in a " that's so sweet kind of way" and sometimes in a heart wrenching manner.....It's in my Listomania of "My Favorite Tearjerkers" Its also in my top 20 favorite movies of all time

Mysterious Skin (2005,  NC-17)
Mysterious Skin
"Mysterious Skin" Is so powerful and moving that I cant get it out of my head. The acting by Joseph Gorden Levitt,Brady Corbet and Michelle Trachtenberg is Oscar worthy as is the film itself.
Not for the sexually squeamish or the homophobic, this movie left me breathless.
absoloutly one of the the most powerful films I have ever seen.
With an ending so intense I cried I was angry and I felt the pain of the characters as if it were my own.One of the charaters "Corbet" hardened yet very affected by "the ordeal",the other"Levitt" in denial and devastated by it.It raised the question to me, Is it better to remember the truth or to believe something that takes you away from this planet safe from the real aliens and monsters we call humans.

The Secret Life of Bees (2008,  PG-13)
The Secret Life of Bees
The Secret Life of Bees
Is in all fairness a woman's movie, and a very good one at that.
All the ladies give great performances along with Paul Bettany who plays Lilly "Dakota Fannings" Characters Mean spirited emotionally wounded father to perfection.
Lilly and Rosaleen a worker from her fathers peach Orchard "wonderfully played by Jennifer Hudson" who shows her comedic timing as well as her vulnerable side run away and go to Miss August's Honey farm where August portrayed by Queen latifah shows lilly how to tend to the bees and also gives her lessons in life while doing it.
The Boatright sisters are all very different.
You have May played by "Sophie Okonedo" who has severe emotional problems and breaks down at the drop of a hat.
Then there's June played by "Alicia Keys" The lady can act.. she plays the seemingly hardened crusty June to a Tee.
Latifah is wonderfully subtle and effective as the wise Matriarch August with a heart of gold.
Okonedo as May gives a very moving and heart wrenching performance with total honesty.
Dakota Fanning as Lilly is almost perfect and tugs at your heart several times.Just when you think your mascara will be safe,Another scene comes on that has the tears jerked out of you. There's a part of the movie at the end when Lilly asks her father a question and he finally tells her the truth,What he tells her makes you want to comfort him as much as you do Lilly.
I found the film to be very refeshing and totally entertaining and I will most certainly buy the DVD.
