Movies to see before i die

A bold exercise in the revenge film genre. It never quite does what you expect, and those hoping a big, glorious, blood bath shootout will be sorely disappointed.

A great combination of acting, storytelling, and suspense. Striking visuals and a very thin and appropraite dose of dark humor make this one a contender for my favorite horror movie of all time. "Hail Satan!"

The Wrestler makes you wince, cry, and cheer. The performances are raw and cut to the bone. It's as if we are watching people living their day to day lives. By the end, you will feel emotionally drained with a strange mixture of happiness and sadness. This is the mark of a great film. Having seen all of Aranofsky's movies, I can safely say this is his best work to date.

Multilayered, surreal, and incredibly ambitious, Synecdoche, New York is packed with so many ideas it may seem overwhelming at times, but every scene is pure magic. The minister scene and the chimera line are two of the best scenes in film I've ever seen. This is definately the best film of 2008, and one of the best movies of all time

Gus Van Sant is one of the best directors we have today. All the performances in this piece really bring it together as one of the best movies in the past few years.

Boyle's sweeping epic is a soaring tale of love and the paths we can take in our lives. A feel good movie that successfully avoids all the sappyness and melodrama, its impossible not to leave this one smiling.

Super awesome crazy movie with outstanding sequences of unbelievably detailed and beautiful imagery and some seriously funny scenes. One of the best.

Kristin Scott Thomas' monumental achievement is immediately striking and heart breaking. The first time she admits what she has done, it feels like you've been hit with a sledge hammer.

A truly excellent tour-de-force from Sam Rockwell. This is his movie, and he owns it completely. My pick for best actor 2009.

Bruising and depressing, the Seventh Continent builds and builds to a shattering climax with a sense of monotony that few have ever achieved. Its power lies in its ambitious decision to show us what has happend and let us draw our own conclusions, or make up our own reasons for why it went the way it did.

Highly underrated dark comedy that pulls no punches. It veers wildly from drama to comedy, which will turn some off. Trust me. You've never seen a comedy like this one.

Here's a tip. When the only thing your movie has going for itself is special effects, make sure they're really good. Poor storyline, way to many characters, variances in tone, ridiculous scenes, and shoddy effects makes it hard to take any of it very seriously, or to care about anyone aside from Wolverine. The basic formula is 1. Wolverine runs to someone. 2. They get killed. 3. Wolverine fights Sabretooth. 4 One of them wins, but the other manages to get away. 5. Repeat until 90 minutes are up.

Despite its status as the scariest movie of all time, the Exorcist is one of the greatest dramas I've ever had the pleasures of seeing. You truly care for and empathize with the characters and their plights.
