11:14 (2003, R)
I found this movie to be very intriguing from the start. I found all the actors to be sustainable throughout the movie which was good considering the amount of random events. The viewing angles the director chose for many of the scenes made it more modern and catchy. The story is also very good at making you feel a little uneasy in a couple scenes but that made it all the more enjoyable. The story was crafted to perfection with no plot holes. I found that to be amazing considering the amount of content in each of the intertwining story lines. All in all a dark twisted funny movie and a must see. |

Young People Fucking (Y.P.F.) (2007, Unrated)
This movie was better than I had expected. The movie has a clever outline which essentially hits on every phase of having sex for many different types of couples. The truth in this movie is timeless and plenty. The script was quite funny and the situations awkward. No matter where you are in your life, if you have had sex you can relate to at least one of the couples in this movie. |

The Machinist (2004, R)
This movie did not impress me much. While I love Fight Club and found I could watch it more than once, I could not watch The Machinist a second time. The movie is much more predictable than Fight Club. I think the issue here is that the story moves pretty slow. It is a very dark feeling movie which I enjoyed and the acting was great for a dark movie. All in all the story did not grab my attention that well. I went into the movie with higher hopes and came out empty handed. |

Frailty (2002, R)
This movie is very dark and sadistic and that makes it amazing. It touches home on a very cult like personality and shows just how bad religion can push people to do things which are obviously not acceptable in our society. This movie is quite good as a psychological thriller and will certainly have you shaking slightly as the movie unfolds. Excellent thriller. |

Gattaca (1997, PG-13)
For a 1997 release date this movie was quite a concept. The movie really hits home on the potential for the future and the fact that human beings have the ability to become more and more similar to God with their abilities to predict the future and decide the fate of others. Of course the movie also shows that not matter how much closer we become to God we will never have the true abilities of God because we are all only human in the end. |

[Rec] (2007, R)
2007 seemed to be a very active year in first person videotaping thrillers. I just recently watched Cloverfield not too long ago and these two movies have a very similar feel. [REC] was more gruesome than Cloverfield but likely just because it takes place on a smaller scale. I found the realism to be spot on which is the key component to these type of movies. Other than the camera man and the reporter there is not much character development. I felt Cloverfield did much better at character development which could add another dimension to [REC]. All in all the movie is a solid one and a great late night thriller. |

Couples Retreat (2009, PG-13)
I am not quite sure why this movie is getting poor reviews. If you are a couple then this is an absolute must see movie. The situational humor is enough to make the entire theatre bust out laughing. The dialogue is catchy and modern and I found that the movie had a really good feel to it. The movie of course has some cheesy parts but it makes up for it by having some scenes which in my mind are some of the best as of late. Enjoy this hilarious couples reality comedy. |

Super Size Me (2004, PG-13)
This movie is a real eye opener to the United States. In our fast paced lifestyles we tend to stray away from the values in eating a healthy meal and instead settle for the fast and easy way out. This movie was very well done and really hit home the points of what fast food does to your body. I suggest watching this every once in a while to be a constant reminder to take the time to eat healthy. |

Hard Candy (2006, R)
The cover of this movie says a lot for what it is about. I found this movie quite dark and disturbing but I actually found that one of the better qualities. I thoroughly enjoyed the ending to this movie as it was atypical. The story really kept my attention and the acting was superb even though it was essentially two characters. |

Titanic (1997, PG-13)
The Titanic actually surprised me as a movie. In my mind going in we knew it was about a ship that was going to sink but it turned out to be more than that. The movie actually hit on the many interesting things about the Titanic and gave a great glimpse into the lives of those on the Titanic. I felt very attached to the characters and what they were going through and it was very interesting to see the scene re-inacted in a dramatic way. The movie has so much to offer and I was greatly impressed by it. |

Hotel Rwanda (2004, PG-13)
This is one of those heart touching movies portraying the truth behind a world crisis. The movie was very well done and shows just how bad the genocide in Rwanda was in the 90's. I felt that the movie was very believable and it felt as if I were in Rwanda witnessing the mass murder. The movie was quite touching and is a constant reminder of just how bad a place this world can be. This is a must see true story that will stay with you forever. |

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (2005, R)
I found this movie to be very witty and entertaining. The movie was quite comical because of the situations it places the viewer in. It is constantly twisting and turning to the very end and always leaves you second guessing what is really happening. The movie is also very erotic and has a sexual side. I found the actors to be very well equipped for the roles they played. The script and dialog was quite contiguous and there were no plot holes. All in all a well made movie with solid acting to back it up. |

Cloverfield (2008, PG-13)
This movie is very unique and is probably best compared to [REC] which came out around the same timeframe. Both of them have their strengths and weaknesses. Cloverfield does pretty good with character development in the opening sequence which leads to more heartfelt thrills later. While [REC] does not do very good with character development, it does do much better at creating sheer excitement with the close encounters. Cloverfield is also more relatable to for Americans as it takes place in New York. |

Interview with the Vampire (1994, R)
For a vampire movie I would say this is one of the best. The movie does not feel cheesy at all compared to other vampire movies. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt make an excellent performance in this dark movie that hits home on what the real life of a vampire would be like. The movie really makes the viewers understand that being a vampire is a huge burden that often is misunderstood. |

Whiteout (2009, R)
This movie was way too predictable. On top of that the movie's action sequences were not that great and they really couldn't be given the story and the environment. I think this is one of those movies where someone had an idea and when they started to lay it down and create a movie about it they realized there was not enough substance for a movie. They didn't realize it until it was too late so they had to kludge in a bunch of stuff to complete the movie. While the concept is neat, its not enough to make a great movie about. |
