Stay For The Credits
Just because the credits are going up the screen, doesn't mean that the movie is over! There are hidden goodies going on while their rolling or even at the very end! Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003, PG-13)
Amazing! Depp and Rush steal the show here, the story though simple is fun just the same. The real treat are the secondary characters who are all brilliantly protrayed and make this movie what it is! Fanatastic ship to ship battles and sword fighting, amazing special effects, and brilliant filming make this a MUST see! |

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End (2007, PG-13)
This one seems to have the same feel as the first and doesn't suffer from the silliness the second one had at awkward times. Still it was obviously rushed through in order to have a completed script, cause of some of the obsurd bits and a slight disappointing Davy Jones story. But you need to see this film multiple times to get it and get the rightfeel for the characters and you'll understand why they do what they do. That I think is what the writer's captured perfectly. Who their characters are. After a couple showings you'll learn to like it, because there are so many good parts and a massive fight scene at the end that takes you breath away! The last 30 minutes of the film are the best and have the right feel and fun to the whole series. |

Kung Pow! Enter the Fist (2002, PG-13)
If you already laugh at badly dubbed Japanese movies that aren't supposed to be funny, then you'll find this movie hilarious. It's got some good laughs and fairly funny suprises around every corner. The humor fits in well with every shot taken from the original movie and the whole thing is edited seamlessly so that it's hard to tell what's been added. Except when it comes to people. Then most of the time it's very obvious. But the special effects aren't very important to the story, but when they do pop up, they just add to the humor at how terrible some of them are. This film is good for some great surprise laughs, so what you think will happen, probably won't. So if you want a mindless comedy then check out this movie. It's a whole lotta nuts. |

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002, PG)
Greatf film and pretty faithful to the book. The acting is good, especially by those who play the teachers at Hogwarts. Kudos go to Harris, who nails the character of Dumbledore right on the head, and to Smith who also gives a great performance. The kids do a touch and go job with a few rough spots Grint probably does his best here then the first film while Radcliff and Watson also give good performances. Wright has a couple of rough spots, but she does a good job coming onto the scene. The most noteworthy performance though is Coulson. He plays Riddle perfectly and I hope they bring him back for future installments. The story follows the book, pretty closely, but of course omits some parts. I was looking forward to seeing the deathday party, unfortunately it was on of the parts omitted. Still the pacing is good, and the special effects are okay with a couple of rough spots. Still we're glad Harry went back to Hogwarts. |

Hard to believe they could come up with enough funny stuff to fill an entire movie on these two, but Smith did and suceeded! It's hilarious, one of Smith's funniest movies, and you can't help but smile during the whole film. |

A true Disney/Pixar classic. Back in it's hey day when all of Pixar and Disney collaborations were good, this one was a favorite. The story is great and imaginative filled with an amazing variety of characters and places. It's full of jokes for both the young and old, so you can laugh along with the kids. A great voice cast here, with everyone matched perferctly to their character. The animation is also excellent with both water, sand, leaves, everything looks beautiful. Disney just doesn't make like this anymore, so pick up a copy today and watch were you step on your way home. |

Planet Terror (Grindhouse Presents: Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror) (2007, R)
Grindhouses counterpart proves to be the best of the two, because it combines pure fun, explosives, and quotes you can't help but laugh at. The acting is great accept for wooden performances by Rodriguez's little kid and Skip Reissig who plays Skip. I found Skip the most annoying because he had more screen time. Kudos to McGowan and Rodriguez who are the most fun to watch. The story is great except for one detail. The details missing with the "Missing" Reel. In it you loose a lot of details about El Wray that I thought would help change the transistions from one part of the movie to another. Yeah it probably was on purpose, but all it did was annoy me. It's my only real problem with this movie. The special effects are great, and the Sicko makeup effects are amazing! It really surpasses Deathproof performance and ending wise. Rodriguez does great work and makes yet another rewatchable film that did come fully loaded. |

Iron Man (2008, PG-13)
A film that stays away from most superhero cliches and makes it all the better. The acting is good and Downey shines as the sarcastic Stark. Paltrow did a good job, but it seemed as the movie went on her character got dumber. The story is great and has some good twists and turns, but there isn't a whole lot of action in this film, cause it more origin story then anything. |

The Incredible Hulk (2008, PG-13)
Yeah it defintly outshines the orignal attempt at a film version, but it doesn't qualify much as a superhero movie when most of it is spent on Banner running away a lot. Still the film as some cool moments and a stellar cast helps make it shine. Tyler, Roth, Nelsen and Hurt each gave good performances. Norton did a good job too he just didn't jump out at me until towards the end. A bunch of cool refrences to the TV show that I enjoyed spotting and Stan Lee's cameo is always fun to look for or course. The story was good and I'm glad they didn';t try for another origin story. The characters travel pretty far of the course of the whole story and given plenty of detail. And there was a lot of detail given to the Hulk as well with a lot of vein and muscles that made this CGI character stand out pretty well. The ending is pretty sweet and defintly let's you leave the theater happy. Also depends on what theater you see it in, but there is a bar scene at the end of the credits. So it paves the way for more movies where the Hulk can smash all he wants. |

Hancock (2008, PG-13)
Why did EW hate this movie? I thought it was great! In an age of super serious SuperHero movies we finally get one with good light humor in it. Plus thow in some great emotional acting from Will Smith and great stuff from Theron and Bateman as well. Great story with some pretty cool twists, but the one with Theron you kinda see coming that something is up, you just don't know what it is. |

The X-Files: I Want to Believe (The X Files 2) (2008, PG-13)
ehh...so yeah. Not really "action packed", "a thrill a minute", or even a "scarefest". Mostly what it did was answer the one question that everyone but me seemed to care about. What happened relationship wise with Mulder and Scully. Have no fear they answered that question. And basically it plays like a long episode which makes the film not half bad. A little long but nothing an X-Phile wouldn't mind watching. But being like show doesn't mean it really follows. I mean in the last episode the government was chasing them in missle filled black helicopters and now their all forgive and forget? I don't buy it. Still they had to come out of hiding somehow. |

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005, PG)
Decent enough movie full of british humor that not a whole lot of non brits will get, but it managed to make a watchable version of the books. The song is great at the beginning and the acting is great. I mean everyone. Probably my favorite film that Deschanel is in. Rickman is hysterical and gets the best lines. Also the scene with the gun is oddly very touching and would be my favorite part of the film, which is strange since this is a comedy. Well if you can laugh at Monty Python style humor then DON'T PANIC, cause you will probably llike this film. If not then you can at least enjoy the dolphins song at the beginning. |

A great movie that follows the book very closely. It's one of my favorites for a perfect story, cast, and the pacing of the movie itself. |

Not Another Teen Movie (2001, R)
A genius spoof movie that hits the mark evey time. It pokes fun at a genre that needed to be laughed at, but still have some respect for some of the great movies they're making fun of. |

The Matrix Reloaded (2003, R)
The more intense, yet more confusing next chapter in the series. I have to admit, that anytime the characters started to get in a deep discusion I was lost. It was too confusing and fast most of the time. Still the stunts are cooler then the first and the fights step it up a notch. I enjoyed the Neo vs. Smiths fight. It was fun and cool to watch. Course I just like Weaving's Smith. He gets the coolest lines and is the best performance in the whole film. The special effects are spotty in a couple spots, but only to the experienced eye, to everyone else they'll even more amazing then the first. And thankfully we didn't get an overuse of the 'bullet effect" that was made so popular with the first. So I think the fans of the movies fights will be satisfied, while everyone else will be left scratching their heads at the story. They might have to see it a couple times to get it all. |

Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986, PG)
Good, funny movie that is classic John Hughes style. It captures what every high school student has dreamed of one day or another and the main "kids" are all ones we can identify with, even now. Hughes' movies manage to resonate with every generation in a way that most childhood movies fail to do and soon become dated. This and his other films (THE BREAKFAST CLUB anyway) don't do that. |

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999, PG) |

Airplane 2 - The Sequel (1982, PG)
Even though we get most of the same cast, except for it's key member but I'll get to that at the end, and some funny cameos this movie is almost identical to the first with one noticable exception. The first one was funny. This one not so much. What was off this time around? Bringing back almost everyone and not making up few new funny characters for one thing. Some of the same jokes, only reworded, for another. And it just felt like the same movie through the whole thing. There were a quite a few funny lines and Shatner is funny when ever he's not trying to be serious. But this spoof was missing the one thing that makes all spoofs great. Leslie Neilson. Without him it just isn't funny enough. And maybe if the same guys who wrote and directed were on board it would be good, but no. They didn't so, it doesn't. |

Max Payne (2008, PG-13)
Kinda slow and not nearly enough action scenes. It instead focuses on story more, so if your expecting an action packed movie like all the trailers suggested then think again. But in that sense it really felt like a graphic novel or book the way it played out from one scene to the next. It was well acted and I was impressed by Kunis and Ludacris out of everybody. Walhberg didn't really make any progression character wise through the whole movie. He was just the same guy through it all. |

Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007, PG)
A clean family comedy that kids will enjoy. Everyone else, not so much. First off, Jason Lee is great here, but his biggest problem was he just can't do the "Alvin!" shout. It just doesn't pack the same punch as the cartoon voice actor's did. Everyone else does a good job here, especially Long, McCartney, and Gubler, who voiced the chimpmunks. They idd a fantastic job and Cross is also fun to watch. The story is pretty simple, but a great way of telling their background story. The songs everyone will enjoy, from the new stuff, to the old remixed ones. So yeah, take your kids, you'll get some good laughs here and there and you won't have to worry about what your kids are laughing at. |

The Muppet Movie (1979, G) |

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007, PG)
Better then the first, but still not my ideal super hero movie. It would be more suited for a two parter on the cartoon show. Still there are some good comedy moments where you can laugh out loud. The action sequences are okay at best, but most of them were in the trailers. In fact all of the Surfer's action moments are in the trailer, so you don't see anything new. Though Johnny Storm has some cool moments with his powers and it was cool with how they worked that into the film's story. The story has a major plot hole as to how does Doom come back alive? It's never really clearly explained and bugged me for most of the film. Acting is good with no bad jobs here. Chiklis gets kudos for walking around in the suit again and Evans gets kudos for giving a better performance without so many "hot" jokes as in the first installment. So if you like the first one and don't mind a somewhat predictable ending if you know anything about comic books, then you'll probably think this movie is , well, fantastic. |

Transformers (2007, PG-13)
I fianally got to see what is said to be the greatest film of all time, and wasen't disappointed. This film as it all-action, romance, humor, and special effects that don't overbear. I only had a couple problems with this movie, 1) during the action sequences it's hard to tell what's going on when the scenes are at their most intense moments. I mean the giant robots do take up a lot of camera room, so that makes it hard to tell what all the human characters are doing. 2) There isn't a whole lot of deep character moments, some of the chacaters are given moments where we see a little deeper into them, but the rest are just along for the ride. Now for the good news. The special effects are top notch and don't over-load your senses like say STAR WARS, but are perfectly matched against the rest of the movie. The acting also is top notch from EVERYONE, and I can't reall complain about anyone. Kevin Dunn and Julie White, who play Sam's parents, give an especially hilarious performance and shine evry time their on screen. Shia LaBeouf continues to give amazing performances and rules the screen here as well. The story is good and you don't have to know anything about the series, toy line, or prievous films to go see this movie which I was glad to find out. The action, humor, and romance are mixed in just right and you'll find yourself laughing one moment and going WHOAH! during one of the filoms action scenes. A good summer film, go see it on the big screen if you still can, because the action will be downplayed on your TV screen. |

Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control (2008, PG-13)
An okay secondary movie, within a movie. Oka and Torrence make a good comedy team and are fun to watch. The multiple cameos are also fun as well. Mays was good, but Miller and Manoux were just the same guys they always play. Dominczyk is just eye candy most of the time. |

Yes Man (2008, PG-13)
A good laugh out loud comedy that will ge quite a few chuckles out of you from start to finish. The bar scene is the best, even though you've seen most of it in the trailers. Carrey is at his best and not over the top insane, but evenly balanced. Deschanel is her usual quirky self and Darby provides some great laughs. |

Dodgeball - A True Underdog Story (2004, PG-13)
Not as funny as I hoped but there was still some good laughs and good performances throughout the whole movie. The one person I didn't like though was Stiller. His character is funny at first, but starts getting completely stupid and annoying as the movie goes on. |

Coraline (2009, PG)
I don't quite get why Selick's movies are considered Children's Movies, because this whole movie is just plain creepy. And if you've seen any of his other movies then you already know about his weird imagination that makes his movies so strange, yet great, to watch. |

Four Rooms (1996, R)
Okay, the first half of this movie I could completely skip. The first two room's stories, which were by Rockwell and Anders, didn't appeal to me at all and weren't interesting in the slightest. The only redeeming factor for both stories were (even though the cast for both did a good job) was Roth's parts as the bellhop. It added enough comedy to the stories to make me watch through the whole thing. |

Monsters vs. Aliens (2009, PG)

State of Play (2009, PG-13)
A very well written story that is full of great twists and turns. Even though the story "Corruption in D.C." has been used countless times already, the depth of the mystery and the well written characters make the story VERY engrossing. |

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006, PG-13)
A sequel that lives up to the original! The only problem I really have with this movie is there are some comedic moments that just upset the moment of the film and just don't fit in at all. Their also questionably funny as well. |
|
| 47 |
X-Men Origins - Wolverine (2009, PG-13)
It was a pretty awesome movie that had a strong cast, but falls short in a few places. We get introduced to a lot of cool characters and don't get to know them for very long before we don't see them again. Bolt (played great by Monaghan) has very little screen time at all. Same thing with Wade (who is basically every character Reynolds has played, only in mutant form, but he does such a great job at it) who was an awesome character and then we never learn anything about him really. At least until the Wade Wilson/Deadpool movie comes out. |

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009, PG-13)
I feel the same about this one as I do about the first, it's just okay, but not really great. There wasen't as many plot holes as the critics made it out to be, but I still wasen't blown away by the story. It was a lot take in and it wasen't explained very well from start to finish, because it seems they just want to get to another scene with an explosion in it. So it's a typical Michael Bay movie. |

The Haunted Mansion (2003, PG)
For everyone who had a problem with the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movies having nothing to do with the ride, then you shouldn't have any problem with this movie at all. There are a LOT of subtle and not so subtle refrences to the rides that just looking for them all and can make this movie entertaining in some way. |

Robot Chicken: Star Wars (2007, Unrated)
A must have for STAR WARS and Robot Chicken fans! This is hilarious from beginning to end. Right from the start it had me laughing with the AT-AT sketch and ending is with the chickens doing the star was theme is great! Cameos from Lucas, Best, Fatone and Hamill add to the hilarity. One of the best sketches is McDowell's Imperial Orientation. He does it perfectly! |

Toy Story & Toy Story 2 in 3D Double Feature (2009, G)
Did this have to be in 3D? No, no it didn't. Same movies, the 3D effects add nothing to the expierence. Nothing seems to fly out of the screen at you and you don't feel like your actually in the movie or any of the cool stuff that happens with good 3D movies. |

Zombieland (2009, R)
A decent zomedy, but there are other ones who do it better and manage to be funnier. |

Tropic Thunder (2008, R)
Great movie and Tom Cruise has earned more respect from me. It's not something that will keep you laughing from start to finish, but it will keep a smile on your face from beginning to end. It's a got a great story and adds something differant to Hollywood while still poking fun at Hollywood itself. Speaking of hollywood it seems that everyone is in this movie. You'll have fun just wondering whose going to pop up next. Great stuff from Black and Downey Jr. was the most hysterical character in the whole movie and gave an amazing performance. Stiller played his same old self to perfection. It works for him in this movie though really. Fantastic movie, I had fun watching it. |

The Fourth Kind (2009, PG-13)
This movie could have been quite better if it had been done differantly. If they had just shown the "real" footage and interviews instead of mixing it with the filmed Holloywood stuff then it would be a bit more believable. Either that or put it all during the credits to make you think maybe it was real after all. Instead your constantly thinking, "If they can fake it THIS way, then how am I supposed to believe that they didn't fake the real stuff too?". That and the archive footage was all scarier then everything else. No offense to Jovovich, but the actress they got to play the "real" Abigail Tyler was way more frightening then she was. That woman could have been onscreen for the whole movie and would have been scarier then what they did. |
