The Fall
Well, as it has been said many times before, this movie is absolutely stunning from a visual point of view. However, there's unfortunately another element of the movie that strikes the viewer almost as much as the beautiful imagery, and that's the sense of something missing which surrounds this movie.

It feels as if small little fragments were lost along the way between the script and the screen. To me, it seems that the main (but not the only) problem was the lead young actress Catinca Untaru. Now I know a lot of people don't agree with me, and I understand why. She talks and acts exactly like a five-year-old ought to, which gives her performance an incredibly realistic quality. But as it happens, real-life five-year-olds can be really annoying, and that also shows in the movie. Besides, this one ultra-realistic performance (which barely qualifies as acting, I might add, since it's the director and other actors who really drew it out of her) feels completely out of place besides all the other characters that are either played in a "classical" way or are purposefully over-the-top.

The scenery and costumes used to manage to make it a truly beautiful movie, but on all other aspects, I would only qualify it as "decent". And the worst part is that I really felt with a little it had the potential to be truly great movie, but failed.

Great casting, great reviews at Sundance, great story = must see.

An Education
Simple but brilliant movie, highly enjoyable. Carey Mulligan is, of course absolutely wonderful, and she's backed up by a plethora of other great British actors.

Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont
I was really unimpressed. Yes, it is sweet to see an elderly woman form an unlikely friendship with a younger man, but I'm afraid there should have been more to the story to fill in an hour and a half of screen time.

The one highlight of the movie was the always wonderful Rupert Friend.

I have a feeling I'm gonna become a very big fan of Rupert Friend very soon.
