Lost In Translation (2003,  R)
Lost In Translation
(Sept. 2003 Director: Sofia Coppola) I LOVED Scarlet Johansen & Bill Murray together!! Dead pan? Have you never spent a week across the country in the madness of a convention? or or been to Toyko? [ I have not..but know those who have) Both Scarlett & Bill are stuck for about 1 week in Toyko, Japan..Bill to make a Japanese Whiskey commercial...Scartlett travelling with her photographer new husband who is rarely available encounters Bill Murray and quickly develops a friendship. There is a kinship between these 2 due to perhaps being displaced in Japan?

Whatever the reason the chemistry is warm and friendly. Despite their age difference, these 2 have quite a bit in common. (to be continued

ALSO MUST SEE THE LOST CITY to truly appreciate the talents of (Bill Murray) this now classic funny man (former Saturday Night Live regular!!)...and of course Andy Garcia

Father of the Bride (1991,  PG)
3
Young Frankenstein (1974,  PG)
Young Frankenstein
(1974 Director: Mel Brooks) By far the best of the best of Mel Brooks. MUST SEE!!
Flixster - Share Movies

The cast? Well Gene Wilder at his peak with Terri Garr...the late Marty Feldman, amazingly talended Madelein Kahn and underrated Peter Boyle as the monster.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987,  R)
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
(1987 Director: John Hughes) When the holidays arrive and panic becomes chaos, I have begun a personal private tradition of pulling out this movie!! i HAVE never seen a funnier movie which builds...until you are belly laughing almost on the floor......

Grumpy Old Men (1993,  PG-13)
Grumpy Old Men
In my Top 10 funniest movies (perhaps ever)! (1993 Director: Donald Petrie) The odd couple do it again--now as older set in their ways yet still likable men! Such a pairing, Walter Matteau (Hello Dolly, Hollywood Suite) & Jack Lemmon (The Fortune Cookie) + Ann Margaret (Tommy-The Who) [shhhh don't tell anyone but I always had a secret crush on Mattheau!]
6
The Odd Couple (1968,  G)
The Odd Couple
(1968 Director: Gene Saks) Sadly we lost two great comedians, Jack Lemmon (Some Like it Hot, 12 Angry Men) and Walter Mattheau (Hello Dolly, Dennis the Menace, Hollywood Suite, IQ). these 2 had managed to keep the "balance of nature" they are at such polarities! Was the writing trying to portray Taurus with Libra? or was it Sagitarius with Cancer? Perhaps even Scorpio combined with Gemini? At any rate, hold onto your popcorn!! The mix of these 2 is funnier and more opposite than even Bob Hope and Bing Crosby? Peter Lorrie and Mary Poppins! Steve Martin & John Candy? The Whiz and Dune?! Oprah and Conan! Klingons and Fehringe! Director Gene Saks...round of applause please!!!
7
The Holiday (2006,  PG-13)
8
Mrs. Doubtfire (1993,  PG-13)
Mrs. Doubtfire
(1993 Director: Chris Columbus) Daniel & Miranda somehow just can't get along. Miranda grew up---Mrs. Responsibility & Daniel became a frequently unemployed, creative but sadly out-of-touch house husband--though a great father.

So, Miranda (Sally Fields) kicks Daniel out of the house.

Shortly thereafter, Miranda interviews potential nannies to babysit their 3 children after school until she gets home in the evening....and guess who applies for the job? None other than the most amazing nanny ever (other than Mary Poppins) ...alias none other than the spry but elderly Mrs. Doubtire alias Daniei (Robin Williams).

This movie is an amazing portrait of the lives of a couple of wonderful people who just were so different they eventually drove each other away. Happens to the best of us!

Besides that amazing psychological character study--this film is a terrific showcase for the amazing talents of Robin Williams (the phenomenal genie in Aladdin, Jumanji, Mork & Mindy, RV, etc etc etc)!

I might also note that little adorable Natalie, the youngest daughter in their brood starred Mara Wilson (Matilda, Transsiberian)
