8 Women (8 Femmes) (2002,  R)
8 Women (8 Femmes)
Very entertaining and interesting, with a unique surprise ending! Defintely not your average murder mystery.
2
300 (2007,  R)
300
Yes, it really is as awesome as everyone says it is. Amazing fight sequences and gorgeous scenery, just an all-around massively enjoyable epic. Even the acting is better than in Sin City, which had a bigger and more accomplished cast.
3
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968,  G)
4
2046 (2005,  R)
5
Adventureland (2009,  R)
Adventureland
Not really the teen comedy that the trailers make it out to be - it's more of a romance with funny parts, but a good romance. The performances worked well and the characters (along with some 80's nostalgia) drew me in. To me it felt very much like Dazed and Confused with the added bonus of getting to watch people who hate their jobs work at an amusement park.
6
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988,  PG)
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
No wonder this movie went over budget and took a while to finish, almost every scene is epic and visually exquisite. I would definitely recommend it to Terry Gilliam fans or anyone who enjoys imaginative fantasy.
7
Wandâfuru raifu (After Life) (1998,  Unrated)
Wandâfuru raifu (After Life)
Beautiful film that gets you thinking about the value of life and happiness.

Whether you like music or not, this is an excellent film

Amelie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain) (2001,  R)
Amelie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain)
Probably my favourite movie of all time. It's just so wonderful and magical.
12
An Evening with Kevin Smith (2001,  Unrated)
An Evening with Kevin Smith
This is extremely interesting, entertaining, and funny. Definitely a must-see if you enjoy Kevin Smith and/or his DVD commentaries, or if you like hearing behind-the-scenes anecdotes or are interested in the business.
13
An Evening with Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder (2006,  Unrated)
14
Anchorman - The Legend Of Ron Burgundy (2004,  PG-13)
15
The Animatrix (2003,  Unrated)
16
Ashes of Time Redux (2008,  R)
Ashes of Time Redux
Minus half a star for being a little confusing at times, but otherwise it's quite an achievement in filmmaking.
17
Away We Go (2009,  R)
Away We Go
Some very funny moments, a great and largely capable cast, and some important messages about family and relationships.
18
Back to the Future (1985,  PG)

Back to the Future Part III (1990,  PG)

23
The Breakfast Club (1985,  R)
24
Bridge to Terabithia (2007,  PG)
Bridge to Terabithia
The trailers are misleading - If you're expecting a big fantasy adventure, this movie is more like My Girl than Narnia. However it's engrossing to watch these kids play with their imaginations as an escape from life. I didn't really buy the bullies' cliche dialogue and seemingly unmotivated behaviour, but I enjoyed the rest of the film and Zooey Deschanel makes an awesome music teacher.
25
Burn After Reading (2008,  R)
26
Captivity (2007,  R)
Captivity
I loved it, the plot twist was predictable but it's so enjoyable to watch, fascinating in the same way that Saw has you eager to see what sadistic traps are waiting for the next victims.
27
Cast Away (2000,  PG-13)
28
Chasing Amy (1997,  R)
29
Chicken Run (2000,  G)
30
Children of Men (2006,  R)
Children of Men
Always great to see another sci-fi film out there, this one is only about 20 years in the future so it feels a lot more probable. Excellent performances and some really touching scenes as well. If you appreciate long takes full of well-executed action, you'll love this movie.
31
Chungking Express (1996,  PG-13)
32
La Cité des Enfants Perdus (The City of Lost Children) (1995,  R)
La Cité des Enfants Perdus (The City of Lost Children)
Original, imaginative, and visually pleasing.
33
Collateral (2004,  R)
34
Crash (2004,  R)
Crash
Wow. Just wow.
35
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Wo hu cang long) (2000,  PG-13)
36
Cube (1998,  R)
37
Boku no kanojo wa saibôgu (Cyborg Girl) (Cyborg She) (2008,  PG)
Boku no kanojo wa saibôgu (Cyborg Girl) (Cyborg She)
Cute movie. It borrows a couple of things from Terminator, but I like to think this movie is what Terminator would be like had it been a romantic comedy instead of an action blockbuster.
38
The Darjeeling Limited (2007,  R)
39
Delicatessen (1991,  R)
40
Dirty Pretty Things (2003,  R)
41
Dirty Work (1998,  PG-13)
42
District 9 (2009,  R)
District 9
A very cool idea, well executed and tons of fun. I think the most important thing we're meant to take from it (even though no one will) is that we can achieve more by working with others rather than against them.
43
Dogma (1999,  R)
44
Domino (2005,  R)
45
Ed Wood (1994,  R)
46
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004,  R)
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
Charlie Kaufman is a brilliant scriptwriter, and this film is genius
47
Eulogy (2004,  R)
Eulogy
I loved it, excellent writing that brings out a great cast of quirky characters, a lot of good performances too but I think it was Debra Winger who stole the show as the stuck up, control freak sister/aunt. Also sprinkled with some geniunely funny and sweet moments to make one of those movies that is so enjoyable you don't want it to end.
48
eXistenZ (1999,  R)
eXistenZ
Wow, this movie blew me away! It's not for the squeamish, but it is original and great fun. I loved the ending too!
49
Fallen Angels (1995,  Unrated)
50
Fargo (1996,  R)
51
The Final Cut (2004,  PG-13)
The Final Cut
Watching this a second time, I realized it's even more brilliant than I originally thought. There's so much yet it doesn't feel overstuffed, it really goes into every possible situation regarding this new technology so that we get the full scope of the philosophical and moral implications of it. On another level it also mirrors the filmmaking process (namely editing and screening) and the old objective vs. subjective debate. Some strong performances by the main actors too, although I have to say that most of the minor actors were sub-par. Watching this makes me feel a litle depressed because it reminds you of your own mortality and shameful deeds, but it's definitely worth watching.
52
Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children (2006,  PG-13)
53
Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within (2001,  PG-13)
54
Finding Nemo (2003,  G)
Finding Nemo
It's a good movie, but I think it got overhyped. There are way better Pixar films.
55
Flakes (2007,  Unrated)
56
For Your Consideration (2006,  PG-13)
57
Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008,  R)
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Really funny and enjoyable, but I don't understand Russell Brand's popularity surge after the release of this movie. I thought he was the weakest part.
58
The Fountain (2006,  PG-13)
The Fountain
Extraordinarily beautiful film with powerful performances from Jackman and Weisz. Great to see something original for a change too.
59
Futurama: Bender's Big Score (2007,  PG)
Futurama: Bender's Big Score
Could have been funnier but I guess they spent too much time on the intricate plot. However it's still entertaining and will probably please fans.
60
Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder (2009,  Unrated)
61
Garden State (2004,  R)
62
Ghost Dog - The Way of the Samurai (2000,  R)
63
The Girl Next Door (2004,  R)
64
The Good Girl (2002,  R)

The Good Night (2007,  R)
The Good Night
Very original and enjoyable, check it out if you're someone who is fascinated by dreams.
66
Higher Learning (1994,  R)
67
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005,  PG)
68
Hook (1991,  PG)
69
Identity (2003,  R)
70
The Idiots (Idioterne) (Dogma 95) (2000,  R)
The Idiots (Idioterne) (Dogma 95)
I didn't find it that funny, and there is a very graphic sex scene that was off-putting, but it is otherwise an entertaining film.
71
Fa Yeung Nin Wa (In the Mood for Love) (2001,  PG)
Fa Yeung Nin Wa (In the Mood for Love)
I like Chungking Express and 2046 better, but still a great film.
72
The Incredibles (2004,  PG)
The Incredibles
Amazing animation, fun action, interesting story, plus I just like superhero movies.
73
Inglourious Basterds (2009,  R)
Inglourious Basterds
Classic Tarantino, reinventing a genre while paying tribute to it. Brad Pitt may be the advertised lead but it felt like no one dominated the movie in terms of screen time. As for acting I think Pitt seemed too exaggerated, like someone doing an impression of a southern accent rather than someone who actually has one. The real standout performances go to Christoph Waltz as a slimy, tension-increasing Nazi and Diane Kruger as a German actress with a hidden agenda.
74
Jabberwocky (1977,  PG)
75
Jackie Brown (1997,  R)
76
The Jane Austen Book Club (2007,  PG-13)
77
Mo li hua kai (Jasmine Women) (2004,  Unrated)
Mo li hua kai (Jasmine Women)
I guess it wasn't really anything groundbreaking, but it was interesting. I liked the performances and the concept of having the same actresses play multiple generations of a family.
78
Junebug (2005,  R)
Junebug
Great movie and a wonderful performance by Amy Adams. Although to be honest it probably wouldn't be half as good without her character in it.
79
Kin-Dza-Dza (1986,  Unrated)
Kin-Dza-Dza
Very original and thought-provoking.
80
King Arthur (2004,  PG-13)
81
La Vie en Rose (La Mome) (2007,  PG-13)
La Vie en Rose (La Mome)
The only thing that bothered me about this film was that I kept finding some of the generic biopic elements that were parodied in Walk Hard. It ruined the drama slightly, but otherwise a good movie. Marion definitely deserved her Oscar!
82
Labyrinth (1986,  PG)
83
Chinjeolhan geumjassi (Lady Vengeance) (Sympathy for Lady Vengeance) (2005,  R)
84
The Last Samurai (2003,  R)
85
Laurel Canyon (2003,  R)
86
Legend (1985,  PG)
Legend
The best part of the movie is probably the beautiful visuals. The second best part is Tim Curry as the villain. Other than those two things it doesn't really stand out much for me.
87
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004,  R)
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Funny, stylish, entertaining, great cast...
88
Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella) (1998,  PG-13)
Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella)
So wonderful, and even though this is a holocaust movie, it's very charming and even funny at times!
89
Little Miss Sunshine (2006,  R)
Little Miss Sunshine
I was expecting almost non-stop laughs and they didn't come as often as I thought, but what's there is funny and the dramatic moments are gripping and emotional. Flawless movie, funny and sweet with excellent performances.
90
Little Monsters (1989,  PG)
Little Monsters
A great classic, especially if you're a kid! I watched this many times when I was little and still love it!
91
Lollilove (,  Unrated)
Lollilove
Hilarious! I would recommend it to fans of The Office, not just because of Jenna Fischer, but because it has a lot of that "so offensive it's funny" type of humour. I think the DVD is only available online, but it's totally worth it.
92
Lost In Translation (2003,  R)
93
The Love Guru (2008,  PG-13)
The Love Guru
I thought this might be like Austin Powers, but disappointingly it was not. There are a couple of chuckles but much of the humour is just bad physical comedy and puns, and maybe that's what Austin Powers is too but it works better there than here. And no, Justin Timberlake still can't act. Having him play a character with an accent was just adding insult to injury.
94
Magnolia (1999,  R)
Magnolia
Wonderful cast, very interesting and entertaining, great musical score, and so on
95
Memento (2000,  R)
Memento
Such an awesome ride, with an ending that is guaranteed to blow you away
96
A Mighty Wind (2003,  PG-13)
A Mighty Wind
I loved it, Fred Willard is hilarious and Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara create some sweet moments together. Perhaps they could have used a few more jokes though, but it's still quite enjoyable.
97
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975,  PG)
98
Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979,  R)
99
Monty Python's The Meaning of Life (1983,  R)
100
Mumford (1999,  R)
101
My Blueberry Nights (2007,  PG-13)
My Blueberry Nights
I'm happy to say it does have the feel of a Wong Kar Wai film, although it is somewhat Americanized (and I'm not just talking about the actors.) Good performances from the cast, and Norah Jones was not terrible but not outstanding either. Decent job for an acting debut though.
102
Mystic River (2003,  R)
103
Napoleon Dynamite (2004,  PG)
104
The Nightmare Before Christmas (2008,  PG)
105
Not Another Teen Movie (2001,  R)
106
Old School (2003,  R)
107
Oldboy (2005,  R)
Oldboy
Wow, this movie has everything you could possibly want in a film!
108
One Hour Photo (2002,  R)
One Hour Photo
Disturbing yet interesting. Robin Williams gives an excellently creepy performance that will probably make you afraid of letting someone else develop your photos.
109
Orange County (2002,  PG-13)
110
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) (2006,  R)
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth)
I was expecting more of a rich and imaginative fantasy film but this is more of a sad and dramatic wartime tale with some fantasy sequences. However it's very effective and lovingly crafted.
111
Pretty Persuasion (2005,  R)
Pretty Persuasion
I thoroughly enjoyed this. It's dark but funny, and Evan Rachel Wood was flawless.
112
Pulp Fiction (1994,  R)
113
Punch-Drunk Love (2002,  R)
Punch-Drunk Love
Adam Sandler in a surprisingly good dramatic performance as a character that all losers and underdogs can identify with
114
The Pursuit of Happyness (2006,  PG-13)
The Pursuit of Happyness
Wonderful film, sometimes almost painful to watch because this poor guy can't catch a break, but I guarantee you'll be rooting for him the whole time. Great performances too, even Will Smith's son was excellent.
115
Real Life (1979,  PG)
116
Redbelt (2008,  R)
117
Requiem for a Dream (2000,  R)
Requiem for a Dream
Very dark and depressing, but also incredibly powerful with interesting film techniques applied to the characters and their drugs
118
Reservoir Dogs (1992,  R)
119
Rue des Plaisirs (2002,  Unrated)
120
Run Lola Run (Lola rennt) (1999,  R)

Save The Green Planet (2005,  Unrated)
Save The Green Planet
Weird but fun!
122
Saw (2004,  R)
123
School of Rock (2003,  PG-13)
School of Rock
The overall story is formulaic, but it doesn't stop this movie from being tons and tons of fun!
124
La Science des Rêves (The Science of Sleep) (2006,  R)
La Science des Rêves (The Science of Sleep)
Some movies are just okay and some are really cool, but it's rare when a movie really blows your mind. Consider my mind blown. Consider my mind blown. ...Sorry, that was my time machine. :)
125
Serenity (2005,  PG-13)
Serenity
Lots of fun, action, and humour, even if you're not a fan of the Firefly series
126
Sin City (2005,  R)
Sin City
Very nice looking imagery with a big cast and awesome characters! There are cheesy, unbelievable parts, but they're supposed to be there. It's a comic book movie, not a documentary.
127
Spider-Man (2002,  PG-13)
128
Spider-Man 2 (2004,  PG-13)
129
The Squid and the Whale (2005,  R)
130
Starsky & Hutch (2004,  PG-13)
131
Strange Brew (1983,  R)
132
Sunshine Cleaning (2009,  R)
Sunshine Cleaning
It has that typical indie movie feel, but I love indie movies. Amy Adams and Emily Blunt were especially good.
133
Super Size Me (2004,  PG-13)
134
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (Boksuneun naui geot) (2002,  R)
135
The Ten (2007,  R)
The Ten
This was a lot of fun and really funny. I found the humour somewhat similar to recent episodes of South Park in the way that it takes stupid and ridiculous situations and exaggerates them to a satirically dramatic level.
136
This Is Spinal Tap (1984,  R)
137
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2006,  R)
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada
Big kudos to Tommy Lee Jones for both his directing and his performance here. Interesting story, beautifully told, and just an excellent film all around.
138
Three Colors: Blue (Trois couleurs: Bleu) (1993,  R)
139
Three Colors: Red (Trois couleurs: Rouge) (1994,  R)
Three Colors: Red (Trois couleurs: Rouge)
Interesting, but I enjoyed White more.
140
Three Colors: White (Trzy kolory: Bialy) (1994,  R)
Three Colors: White (Trzy kolory: Bialy)
I think Blue was on TV a week or two ago but I missed it... Hope I can catch Red!
141
Time Bandits (1981,  PG)
142
Timecode (Time Code) (2000,  R)
Timecode (Time Code)
Great concept; sometimes the split-screen thing is frustrating because the sound alternates and you can see the dialogue you're missing. However, the great thing about having this on DVD is that it lets you choose which screen to hear, so you can watch once for each screen and get all four viewpoints in their entireties.
143
The Tracey Fragments (2007,  R)
The Tracey Fragments
Points for uniqueness.
144
Trainspotting (1996,  R)
145
UHF (1989,  PG)
146
Unbreakable (2000,  PG-13)
Unbreakable
The ending seemed a bit rushed to me, as if Shyamalan had to finish things up real quick because the movie was getting too long, but this is otherwise an interesting and entertaining film if you go along with it.
147
Unknown (2006,  Unrated)
Unknown
Kind of like Saw but without the torture. Ending has like three plot twists but could have done with just two. Mostly enjoyable though.
148
Unstrung Heroes (1995,  PG)
149
A Very Long Engagement (Un long dimanche de fiançailles) (2004,  R)
A Very Long Engagement (Un long dimanche de fiançailles)
Not as good as Amelie, but still a wonderful and excellent film.
150
The Village (2004,  PG-13)
151
The Virgin Suicides (2000,  R)
152
Waitress (2007,  PG-13)
Waitress
Very charming script and characters. Except for Jeremy Sisto's character. I've never wanted to punch someone in the face so badly.
153
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007,  R)
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
This is how parodies should be made, not that stupid Date Movie/Epic Movie crap.
154
WALL-E (2008,  G)
WALL-E
Always great to see something new being done. Pixar almost never disappoints.
155
The Weather Man (2005,  R)

Der Himmel über Berlin (Wings of Desire) (The Sky Above Berlin) (1987,  PG-13)
