"People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people."
Not usually mentioned among people's favorite movies, but I can't say enough how much I loved this. Great performances and one of the most incredible stories I've ever heard.
"Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free."
Not much to say about this movie that has not already been said. One of the greatest movies of all time, incredibly beautiful. Watching it just makes your week 75% happier.
A fantastic installment of my favorite trilogy of all time. Of all the three, this is probably the one that does the best job in creating an atmosphere of the fantasy of the middle-earth. Everything, from Rivendell, to the Mines of Moria, to Lothlorien, looks extremely epic. Aside from the ever awful Orlando Bloom (which actually is not that bad in this), the cast does a great job. And most importantly, thumbs up for Peter Jackson, for achieving something almost nobody believe it could be done, making a good adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. Turned out not good, but absolutely fantastic.
"This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!"
It's not only my favorite movie of all time, but I also honestly consider this to be the greatest achievement in movie making of the history of cinema, when you consider the balance of all the things, directing, acting, visual effects, script adaptation, editing, soundtrack, etc. Everything is just near perfect.
"I am your Angel of Music... Come to me, Angel of Music."
Pretty solid film. It does drag here and there between the middle and the end and becomes kind of boring, but it's still a decent movie. The songs are really amazing, so it helps keep you focused. And considering this is the same guy who did Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, I'd say this movie is pretty ranked up in his filmography.
"The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf."
This is probably the closest I ever came to cry watching a movie. The directing is brilliant, the acting is really good from a very impressive cast, especially from Ralph Fiennes, the soundtrack is just plain beautiful. Deserved all awards it got, maybe some more.
Ok, what can I say about this one. Well, it's The Godfather. It's the movie of movies. And it's freaking amazing. The acting here is one of the best ever, one of the many strongest points of the film. The soundtrack is remarkable, the story is so beautifully told that you can notice every aspect of Michael's progress. And Marlon Brando just gives a legendary performance, well suited for a legendary movie. Deserves all the praise it receives.
"I've had so many names. Old names that only the wind and the trees can pronounce. I am the mountain, the forest and the earth. I am... I am a faun. Your most humble servant, Your Highness."
Easily among the three best films of the decade. This movie is unbelievably beatiful, has really good acting, and the script is just brilliant. The best thing about it it's that it never really establishes if all of the story ot the princess is real or it's just in the girl's imagination. Besides that, this has one of the most, if not the most, incredible cinematography I've ever seen.
I still get chills every time I see it. Just incredible. Christopher Nolan tops himself again, if that was any possible. Has perhaps the most powerful performance by an supporting actor I've ever seen in a movie, and really good acting from the rest of the cast too (thankfully after Katie Holmes left). The script is amazing, the ending is perfect, I could go on and on about how good this movie is. I'll just that, I understand why people would disagree with me on this, but I think this is without a doubt the best movie of 2008, and one of the best movies of the decade.
"The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return."
Still don't understand why more people don't appreciate this masterpiece. For my money, the greatest musical ever made. The story is very compelling, the characters are very relatable, the dialogue is beautiful, the songs fit perfectly. Nicole and Ewan act and sing their asses off. And the movie has one of the most important things for a musical: very singable and entertaining songs. And for a movie essecially about love (like few others), really manages to get out of clichés. If you haven't seen this, watch it.
"You should've gone to China, you know, 'cause I hear they give away babies like free iPods."
This movie is perfect in what intends to do. The best romantic comedy I ever saw if you ask me. The script is really witty, and Ellen Page gives a stellar performance. I mean, really, there's nothing missing from this movie, it's absolutely all there, and I just can't find one flaw in it. I think, among the nominees, this should've won the Oscar easily.
"Congratulations. You are still alive. Most people are so ungrateful to be alive. But not you. Not anymore."
Definitely a guilty pleasure of mine. I'm a enormous fan of this movie, and I even like most of the franchise. All the tension created by the traps, all the ideas and the motivations of the killing, and mostly, the ending. This is my favorite ending of a movie of all time. And the soundtrack for that part is just perfect. Gives me chills every time. The sequels don't match the power of this one, but for the fans of the first, some of them are still pretty enjoyable flicks.
"I'm an English teacher, not fucking Tomb Raider."
Loved it. One of my favorite horrors of all time. The sense of tension and the scares are obviously great, and why wouldn't be, a small e dark cave, with extremely tight spaces and full of flesh-eating creatures. But what people usually don't talk about that much is the script, that I find incredibly interesting, especially the end. The end of this movie is just awesome. Maybe some more multidimensional characters would've been nice, but otherwise, just a fantastic film.
