Full Metal Jacket (1987, R)
An excellent war movie. Kubrick's a genius. The first half an hour of the film, really gets you gripped. R Lee Ermey's character is really the main reason, the sarcastic comments and yelling that come out of his mouth are just hilarious. Vincent D'Onofrio's portrayal of the victimised and very psychotic Private Pyle is unforgettable. Spectacular film, with spectacular direction, cinematography and dialogue. Definately worth a view. |

GoodFellas (1990, R)
I think this is without a doubt the best mob movie ever made - in my opinion. The performances were excellent. Ray Liotta's best performance of his career. Joe Pesci steals every scene with his quirkiness. Robert De Niro is brilliant, but isn't he always? Breath taking direction by Scorsese and this just happens to be my favourite Scorsese film. And with a great soundtrack to top it all off. |

Trainspotting is one of the best British films ever made and my favourite film of all time. It's gritty, edgy, unrelenting and is secure in it's status as a cultural phenomenon. |

Pride and Prejudice (2005, PG)
I have to admit I've read the book and have always been a fan of the story. It's a brilliant new adaptation with breathtaking scenery and fantastic performances. I probably do prefer the BBC adaptation because this film seems to be crammed into two hours, but this was still a very entertaining watch. The whole cast was very charming and the tension between Matthew MacFayden and Keira Knightley interesting to watch. Keira was well deserving of her Oscar nomination as she brought a lot of honesty and humanity to her role as Elizabeth Bennett. |

Garden State (2004, R)
Zach Braff proves his talent by directing and writing Garden State. This film is smart and charming and has some of the most inspiring dialogue, I have ever witnessed. The cast is wonderful Portman and Braff work really well together as well as good supporting performances from Ian Holm and Peter Sarsgaard. You definately get more out of it each time you watch it and this film offers many things you can relate to. |

The Usual Suspects (1995, R)
This is a tremendous movie in all aspects. I think this movie is the inspiration behind a lot of other movies to have a mind-blowing twist at the end. It is an excellent crime thriller that has to be in the top twenty films ever made. It has very eccentric but interesting characters which the actors play extremely well, Gabriel Byrne, Kevin Spacey, Benicio Del Toro, Stephen Baldwin to name a few. If you haven't seen this film yet, then sorry but you haven't lived. |

The Departed (2006, R)
Scorsese is a genius and well deserving of his oscar. This movie is astounding from start to finish. Leonardo DiCaprio has really grown up and think this is one of his best performances. Mark Wahlberg was the one who really did it for me though, he just stole every scene he was in. Great acting, directing, writing plus a great soundtrack. |

Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003, R)
Another masterpiece from Quentin Tarantino. This film is soaked in blood from start to finish but I think it's a good thing. The direction is astonishing, but you can't expect less from Tarantino. There is quite a long build up till the explosive fight scenes at the end, but it is definatley worth waiting for. Great cast, Uma Thurman definatley kicks ass. |
|
| 79 |
Con Air (1997, R) |
|
| 80 |
Memento (2000, R)
This film is original, intense and suspenseful. It's a fresh, thrilling movie that is extremely different from your average special effect-packed thriller. It takes you through and interesting journey of flashbacks (considering the whole film is set backwards) which you must pay very close attention to. |

Gosford Park (2001, R)
I wanted to see this because it's an English movie and I'm English. I very much liked the time period it was set in. This film reminded me ever some much of an Agatha Christie novel adaptation or something similiar. I think you get distracted by the all-star cast, Helen Mirren, Clive Owen, Ryan Phillippe, Maggie Smith, Kristin Scott Thomas, that you kind of forget about the storyline. But for me it was an enjoyable watch. |
|
| 85 |
Blood Diamond (2006, R)
Ed Zwick's masterful directing job makes this film a treat to watch. Leonardo DiCaprio proves worthy of his oscar nomination and handles well the south african accent. It has edge-of-the-seat action collaborated with some emotional and sensitive issues. A moving film that I am proud to have in my collection. |
|
| 86 |
American Beauty (1999, R)
This movie is perfect in every aspect, dialogue, acting, direction. Kevin Spacey's performance left me utterly speechless, he definately deserved the oscar. Annette Bening also giving a fantastic performance playing the desperate but hilarious Carolyn, well deserving of her Oscar nomination. It was just great drama and it was definately worth two hours of my life. Proud to have it in my collection. |

| 87 |
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991, R) |
|
| 88 |
Requiem for a Dream (2000, R)
Inredible film. Aronofsky has an amazing directing skill which is hugely unique and mesmerizing. I did find this film a little difficult to watch and the ending was heartbreaking. But it's worth the journey you go through whilst watching the film. I like how Aronofsky makes you care deeply about each of the characters and become emotional when their dreams fail. Soundtrack = Awesome. Excellent film - a must see, especially for the performances. |

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004, R)
This movie is so fresh and different. It was a bizarre storyline but incredible to watch. At times I found myself struggling to keep up but it was worthwhile and came together at the end. The performances I could not fault and the screenplay was inspiring. This movie really makes you think about memories and cherish them more. By far one of the best movies of 2004. |

Stand by Me (1986, R)
Memorable, inspiring and excellent. 'Stand By Me' is a masterpiece. You should see this for it's wonderful acting (Phoenix, Wheaton, O'Connell and Feldman), powerful message and an incredibly touching plot. It's a great coming-of-age movie that it least every teen should see. Each character is different and entertaining in their own way which makes it very charming. Do NOT miss this one out. LARD ASS! |

Léon (The Professional) (1994, R)
Masterpiece. Incredible film with an intense story and fantastic performances. It has wonderful elements of comedy, action and drama all rolled into one. Gary Oldman reminds me why he's my favourite actor as he perfectly executes the sadistic, psychotic but quirky character of Norman Stansfield. Jean Reno and the young Natalie Portman are also phenomenal. A personal favorite film of mine. |
|
| 106 |
True Romance (1993, R)
Great cult movie. Tarantino's dialogue is top notch, the story is exciting and intense. This film is filled with great performances from some of the best actors working today. Christopher Walken, Gary Oldman, Dennis Hopper, Christian Slater, Tom Sizemore and not to mention Brad Pitt is absoloutley hilarious in his role. Don't miss this! |

| 108 |
Half Nelson (2006, R)
Moving and thought-provoking film. It's a very interesting and compelling story about a young and unhappy teacher forming an unlikely friendship with one of this students. The acting is phenomenal, Gosling gives an emotionally charged portrayal and proves worthy of his Oscar nomination. He's going to be around for a long time. I can't say enough good things about this film and I highly recommend everyone give it a watch. |
|
| 109 |
A Clockwork Orange (1971, R)
Disturbingly grotesque, but a damn good film. Kubrick is a master of film-making. It's a difficult film to sit through and it's understandable that some people find it sick and twisted. Malcolm McDowell shines in his role as ulta-violence addicted Alex DeLarge, leader of 'the droogs'. Although his character is horrible, the film has a strange way of making you feel sorry for him through the parts where he is cured. And to end it all ingenious uses of music to compliment the on-screen action. |
|
| 110 |
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) (2006, R)
It's a magical and beautiful film but also a very dark masterpiece. I liked the fairytale elements and all the wonderfully costumed creatures although the pale man is a little creepy. Excellent script and a brilliant cast. The little girl Ivana Baguero carries the film but also a great performance from Sergi Lopez as the brutal, sadistic step-father. A stellar film. |

Collateral (2004, R)
Stylish and extremely intense. It's so unfortunate that this film is underrated. I think is is one of Tom Cruise's best performances as the merciless contract killer and Jamie Foxx does well as the 'full-of-dreams' cab driver. It's edge of the seat action with some funny one liners. Seriously overlooked movie but definatley worth a watch. |

The Last King of Scotland (2006, R)
An extremely well-crafted film. Forest Whitaker undoubtedly deserved his Oscar. James McAvoy was also very convincing. As you watch the film it's interesting to see all the character's transform into different people, especially Dr. Nicholas Garrigan's character. To top it all off it has a gripping storyline that does not lose interest. Watch this film, if only just to see Forest Whitaker's performance. |

A highly enjoyable, tragic comedy. Al Pacino, performing what I think is one of the greatest peformances of his career, he leaves you in awe because he brings an undescribable energy to his performance. John Cazale is just riveting, the whole cast is just fantastic. Greatly directed, wonderfully written. This is one powerful movie here, it's a shame they don't make them like this anymore. |

Blow (2001, R)
This is a brilliant film. It's great story telling that gets you intrigued to the character of George Jung and his life. I think people should really appreciate this film more because it has an excellent performance from Johnny Depp and nowadays all he is recognised for is playing Jack Sparrow, which is a pity because he is an outstanding actor and has done many better films than POTC. Other performances that stand out is that of Ray Liotta as the caring and considerate father. Intriguing film that you shouldn't miss if you are a fan of true life stories. |

Bonnie and Clyde (1967, R)'This here's Miss Bonnie Parker. I'm Clyde Barrow. We rob banks.' Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway are excellent in their title roles as well as Gene Hackman and Michael J. Pollard. This is an important piece of film-making of the 1960's and is most definately a landmark. A fast-paced, entertaining, quotable and violent film that makes you want the Barrow gang to succeed. The ending will leave you speechless. Highly recommended memorable classic. |

Notes on a Scandal (2006, R)
Emotionally intense film. Judi Dench remarkably conveys every inch of her character's desperate loneliness exceedingly well. All Dench, Blanchett and Nighy deliver in this sharp, tragic comedy. Marvellous screenplay written by the same writer as 'Closer'. Notes on a Scandal is one of the most overlooked films of 2007, despite it being a well made and highly credible film. |

Interesting film to watch, with an excellent cast. Gabriel Byrne, Emily Watson, Julie Waters and the young Nicholas Hoult. I was very impressed with Richard E. Grant's writing and directing skills, and was astonished that this was the story of his childhood. Even with it's flaws, it was still a very entertaining film to sit through. |

State of Grace (1990, R)
Extremely overlooked film. A dark and clever gangster film with a terrific cast. A career best performance for Gary Oldman, probably second to Norman Stansfield in Leon, he gives a chilling performance as an Irish gangster. Not only does he play a psychopath-who-keeps-body-parts-in-his-freezer fantastically well but he also makes him likeable. Also in my opinion he made Sean Penn seem boring in this film. |

Them (Ils) (2007, R)
Suprising, thrilling, a tense French horror film. Them (Ils) is definately above a lot of the usual hollywood horror tripe that has been released in the past few years. But that still doesn't cover up the disappointment I felt after watching this. It begins quite predictably but then quickly delves into a fast-paced edge-of-seat thriller. |

La Vie en Rose (La Mome) (2007, PG-13)
Magnificent film. Marion Cotillard's acting alone makes it worth watching, but in whole the film is very well done. Cotillard's performance is one of the best I've seen from an actor or actress in a long time, she captures the lively and passionate girl at the beginning as well as the sad and broken Piaf at the end. The make-up transformation of different ages is very well done and believable. |

Ne le Dis ŕ Personne (Tell No One) (2006, Unrated)
A complex but clever, gripping and thrilling little French film which superseded my expectations. The plot was interesting but confusing in a good way, the characters were well developed and the acting brilliant, especially from François Cluzet, André Dussolier and Kristin Scott Thomas. Nice directing skills from Canet, beautiful cinematography, finished off with an excellent script. I definately recommend this if you like foreign cinema or decent thrillers. |

Funny Games (1998, Unrated)
Unsettling, disturbing, gripping film. Haneke's masterful direction constructs an original, shocking and clever film. The film is very controversial, and I still can't understand why it is called a failure because it conveys violence in a whole new light. |

Psycho (1960, R)
A perfectly suspenseful and enjoyable experience. Psycho is an astonishing masterpiece that set the standard in the horror/thriller genre. Anthony Perkins is really remarkable as Norman Bates, he is disturbed yet innocent, horrifying yet mesmerizing. I found myself spurring Norman on, to get away with it, he was that effective. |

I had high expectations of this film because I had read the book and it was a very entertaining and funny read. Okay, it wasn't as good as the book but still watchable, the odd laugh here and there. A good performance from James McAvoy, I couldn't fault him. I'd never seen him in a comedic role and still he was very charming. |

Brighton Rock (1947, Unrated)
Excellent British Gangster classic. Richard Attenborough gives a fantastically menacing performance as mob leader Pinkie Brown, Carol Marsh is also good as the very innocent and naive Rose. A dark, suspenseful gangster thriller with sharp and clever dialogue to top it all off. Brighton Rock is an underrated classic. |

The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999, R)
There was something about this film that I did find confusing and it lost my attenion a few times. But other than that, I really enjoyed it. The scenary was spectacular and altogether the film was crafted wonderfully. Matt Damon's performance is the thing that makes you not give up on the film. I am so speechless at his talent. I like the line 'It's always better to be a fake somebody than a real nobody'. |

Extremely suspenseful film that's directed brilliantly. It has moments where you will be on the edge of your seat and moments that will either make you laugh or make you cringe. Kathy Bates extremely deserving of the Oscar as she carries the film playing her sinister, psychotic character wonderfully. She is terrifying and unforgettable in this role. A must watch even just for Kathy Bates performance. |

Dogville is a highly original, disturbing but extremely slow-paced film from Lars Von Trier. It soon grabbed my attention after about 30 minutes. |

Stephen King's It (1990, Unrated)
This started very promising and intriguing. Tim Curry as the clown was perfect, although he wasn't extremely petrifying, he's creepy enough to put you off clowns for sometime. The first scene where he appears down the drain is spooky and shocking enough to keep you watching. The child actors were all very convincing and in my opinion performed better than the adult actors in the second half of the film. It was more interesting watching their little gang take on Pennywise than the pathetic clichéd older gang. |

30 Days of Night (2007, R)
I'm not going to be too harsh on 30 Days of Night because I think it's a good film for it's genre but it's no Citizen Kane. The gore and action is average, nothing you haven't seen before. On the other hand, it's storyline and situation is something fresh and different in the horror genre, I don't think we've witnessed a film set in Alaska where the sun doesn't rise for 30 days consecutively and where rather conveniently they happen to be invaded by vampires. |

What a fantastic ending to the excellent bourne franchise. Or is it the ending? The film was packed with edge-of-seat action and an adrenaline pumping tension. The action scenes were extremely impressive and the choreography of the fight sequences - astonishing. It was a little difficult to follow in some places due to the fast pace of the film, but all in all - a great story, fantastic direction. Matt Damon has created a very memorable character out of the Bourne series. |

Brief Encounter (1945, Unrated)
A wonderful British romance film of the 1940's. A timeless masterpiece with characters so real you sometimes forget they are acting. I'm not usually one for romance films but Brief Encounter is so incredibly poignant and well written. Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard are perfectly cast and give unforgettable performances. The train station and sound effects create a haunting atmosphere and have probably changed the way I look at train stations. It's a simple, honest story of love and longing, I could never tire of it. |
