1
Live Free or Die Hard (2007,  PG-13)
2
Akira (1988,  R)
3
V for Vendetta (2006,  R)
4
Sinbad - Legend of the Seven Seas (2003,  PG)
5
Die Hard (1988,  R)
Die Hard
An absolute classic, full of hard-hitting action and violence. Plenty of testosterone flying around, and of course the usual love story.
6
Die Hard 2 (Die Hard 2: Die Harder) (1990,  R)
Die Hard 2 (Die Hard 2: Die Harder)
One year on, John McClane is trapped in Christmassy terror when terrorists take over an airport in order to free a drug lord. Once again it's up to Detective McClane to single-handedly seek out the bad guys, stop the plot and stick it to authority. However what makes this different from the first one is you don't know whose side anyone is on.
7
Die Hard With a Vengeance (Die Hard 3) (1995,  R)
Die Hard With a Vengeance (Die Hard 3)
A deviation from the Christmas theme, an old enemy is back to terrorise New York and pull off the biggest bank heist in the world. With a personal grudge on John McClane, he sends the renegade cop on a wild goose chase to keep him out of the real evil plan. With help from an unwilling partner, he jumps through all the hoops and saves the day just in time.
8
Rush Hour 3 (2007,  PG-13)
9
Astérix et Obélix contre César (Asterix and Obelix vs. Caesar) (1999,  Unrated)
10
X-Men (2000,  PG-13)
11
Peter Pan (2003,  PG)
12
30 Days of Night (2007,  R)
30 Days of Night
It was a fun, gory vampire flick but there were inconsistencies between the film and the graphic novel which annoyed me slightly. Plus the actor playing Sheriff Eben was far too weedy.
It's a great movie providing you didn't read the graphic novel first - as the book is far better than the film.
13
Robin Hood - Men in Tights (1993,  PG-13)
Robin Hood - Men in Tights
Another excellent Mel Brooks movie. This is the one that got me hooked on his movies, and Cary Elwes! And he does do a convincing English accent...
14
Sin City (2005,  R)
Sin City
It sticks very closely to Frank Miller's graphic novels, in look, layout and style and it works very well. The casting is brilliant, the characters are well portrayed and the level of violence appropriately reflects the feel of Sin City.
15
Jurassic Park (1993,  PG-13)
Jurassic Park
One of my all-time favourite movies. The idea of living dinosaurs is great, I can't even be mad at the science because nobody actually knows if this is possible yet!
16
The Lost World - Jurassic Park (1997,  PG-13)
The Lost World - Jurassic Park
A second dinosaur-filled island has been discovered, and in the words of Dr Ian Malcom "you're not making the same mistakes, you're making whole new ones". After discovering his girlfriend is one of the team on the island, Dr Malcom rushes to the rescue only to find a team of hunters arriving to take down a T-Rex. But soon they all become the hunted, and after an adrenaline-filled adventure around the island, Ingen's desire for money is so great that an adult T-Rex is unleashed on the poor unsuspecting US public. The best scene has to be the raptors in the long grass.
17
Jurassic Park III (2001,  PG-13)
Jurassic Park III
Dr Alan is employed to give a rich couple a helicopter tour of one of the islands, but he soon discovers they're going to find their son and is kidnapped, now he not only has to find some evidence of the young boy, dead or alive, but he has to keep his party from being eaten. They really develop the raptors in this film, portraying an intellgience on par with our own. Unfortunately you can only do so much with giant carnivorous reptiles, and at this point it's wearing a little thin.
18
300 (2007,  R)
300
It's very good if you like blood and violence and shirtless men. Not one for those pedantic about history, and there's a lot of shouting...
19
Doomsday (2008,  R)
20
Hogfather (2007,  Unrated)
Hogfather
An absolutely fantastic story and cast! Don't let the long running time put you off, every second is pure gold.
I will never look at Death in the same way again.
21
The Devil's Rejects (2005,  R)
The Devil's Rejects
Its gore could rival popular titles such as Saw and Hostel, but rather than being from the victim's point of view you're following the serial killers on the run, and these serial killers have balls.
As you follow their journey, cutting from them to the policeman plotting to take them down, you actually start to empathise with the Firefly family and you start to feel sorry for them being hunted down like animals.
It's not quite the hard-hitting or stomach-churning horror the back of the box describes, but perhaps that's just me.
Add this rollercoaster of a movie to a kicking soundtrack, and it's a must-see for all gore/horror movie fans.
22
Labyrinth (1986,  PG)
23
The Dark Crystal (1982,  PG)
24
Ninja Scroll (1995,  Unrated)
25
The Final Cut (2004,  PG-13)
26
Spider-Man 3 (2007,  PG-13)
Spider-Man 3
Someone bought me this for Christmas, so I finally bit the bullet and watched it. I liked Venom, the computer animation did him really well. But "Black suited Spiderman" was just laughable. He was supposed to be evil, not some moping little floppy-haired, leather-jacket wearing weed. And the introduction of Gwen Stacy at THIS point was a bad move. She was his first love, so when they started off with MJ in the films I hoped they would never bring up Gwen Stacy.
Great for a person who has never ever read the comic books, but for the Marvel fans this is just another money-making annoyance.
27
Hellboy (2004,  PG-13)
Hellboy
A great fantasy story, Hellboy is probably one of the best comic-to-movie adaptations I have ever seen. The story lacks in places, but it makes up in comedy, fantasy violence and monsters.
28
Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2) (2008,  PG-13)
Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2)
This could have been SO much better. The mythical creatures were beautifully designed and their world was breathtaking. The story, however, was a complete flop.
The characters didn't "feel" right (and don't even get me started on how Abe Sapien is suddenly American).
It's all you could expect from a sequel - a light-hearted popcorn movie made for the kids to make a profit.
I wanted the elves to win because Hellboy's side of the story was just so dull.
