Sin City (2005,  R)
Sin City
I really feel like I don't need to say anything about this movie. If you don't know about it then you're a fool, and if you've seen it you know how absolutely stunning it is. A movie like this has never been made before, and I doubt we'll see another like it for a long time.

Reservoir Dogs (1992,  R)
Reservoir Dogs
This is a cinematic masterpiece no matter which way you cut it. Quentin Tarantino's debut has everything a good movie should have; superb acting, amazing dialogue, and an intriguing story. The ultimate heist film where the actual crime is never even seen. How brilliant is that? And the dynamics between the different characters is some of the best out there. The way Blonde and White verbally spar makes you feel the tension as if you were really there, and the ambiguous interaction between White and Orange is just heartwrenching, especially if you know how it ends. I cannot say enough good things about this flick. It's most definitely one of the best films ever made, and never loses its appeal even if you've seen it a hundred or even a thousand times.

Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003,  PG-13)
Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl
I can't even remember how many times I've watched this movie. And it gets better everytime! The characters are all loveable, and I just can't help but like the movie that brought pirates back into fashion, lol.
4
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006,  PG-13)
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Another great POTC movie. I loved how this one was a tad darker than the first, although it did reek of fanservice. Nothing wrong with that though, lol. I can't wait for the third one (I want to see Norrington as an admiral XD)

Buffalo Bill and the Indians, or Sitting Bull's History Lesson (1976,  PG)
Buffalo Bill and the Indians, or Sitting Bull's History Lesson
I'm starting to really like Robert Altman films. He has a certain way of making usually boring characters and/or topics really interesting. This flick was particularly charming, and was actually quite hilarious too. Paul Newman played a very believable past-his-prime Buffalo Bill with a kind of cynical, bitter intensity that was perfect for the character. It was also fun to see a very dorky Harvey Keitel who played the nephew of Bill; he's just so naive and gung-ho I found myself squeeing whenever he came on screen. It was slow at times, but the humour and just overall strangeness more than made up for it. Not for everyone, but still an interesting movie if nothing else.
13
Iron Monkey (2001,  PG-13)
14
Le Pacte des loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf) (2001,  R)
15
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006,  PG-13)
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
I actually really enjoyed this movie, which is shocking because I loathe the first one and haven't even bothered to see the second one. But I have a sneaky suspicion this is the best out of all three. Not only did it make something I find utterly boring interesting (racing cars) but I think it portrayed another country fairly accurately for the American audience. If anything it's worth seeing just to behold the beauty and strangeness that is Japan. The music was also great; matched the flick perfectly and is really catchy without being annoying. I even bought the soundtrack, lol. But don't hold your breath if you expect some good acting; it's not atrocious, but it's most definitely not going to get any awards. So overall it's a fun ride with some extra flashy bits to keep your brain working at least a little; I highly enjoyed it, and will be buying it when it comes out on DVD, heh.

Napoleon Dynamite (2004,  PG)
Napoleon Dynamite
This is actually quite a hilarious movie, but the lines have been so over-used that it's kind of killed it's charm. If only it would have stayed underground *sigh*
23
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975,  R)
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
This flick is so over the top and strange that I just love it. The tunes are catchy as hell, and Tim Curry is strangley sexy in drag. Not to be taken seriously AT ALL, so it's a nice flick to watch when you're in the mood for something silly and mindless.
24
True Romance (1993,  R)
True Romance
Is there such a thing as true romance? Well, there is for Clarence and Alabama in this AMAZING flick directed by Tony Scott and written by Quentin Tarantino. I still don't know why I waited so long to see this again; it just blew me away with its great acting and as-is-QT's-fashion amazing dialogue. It runs smoothly, and is fast paced without detracting from the plot or characters. It really is a story of romance and has its cute moments, but some pretty vicious ones are there as well. I didn't particularly like the music though; kind of gave the movie a wrong feel at times, but other than that it's a masterpiece.

I Heart Huckabees
Hmm, well, it was alright; I actually expected a bit more, but was fairly satisfied with the results.

It wa a tad more philosophical than I imagined, but entertaining nonetheless. No one really stood out, except for Mark Whalberg's performance which made me bust up the most, surprisingly.

Not for everyone, but overall I rather liked it.
40
Hide and Seek (2005,  R)
Hide and Seek
Eh, this movie was okay. Made me jump at least once, but the ending was horrible and too predicable. I usually don't have anything against predictability, but it was just stupid. And the alternate endings weren't any better. Wait to see this on TV; don't waste your money renting it.

The Boondock Saints (1999,  R)
The Boondock Saints
A very unique and entertaining film. Will make you laugh your ass off with Willem's performance and the dialogue is spectacular. It gets kind of off kilter towards the end, almost turning into something completely different, but it makes sense in a strange way. One of my top ten films definitely.
46
House of Flying Daggers (Shi mian mai fu) (2004,  PG-13)

Kingdom of Heaven (2005,  R)
Kingdom of Heaven
For once Orlando Bloom didn't completely suck. He was half way bearable to watch and blended in enough to almost ignore his mediocre performance. But with that said, the rest of it was phenominal. The story was refreshing, and the characters were very intriguing and well written. The action was great as well, but it seemed to drag on just a little too long. Not as good as Gladiator, but still worth a look.
52
Schindler's List (1993,  R)
53
The Passion of the Christ (2004,  R)
54
Secret Window (2004,  PG-13)

Karas: The Prophecy (2006,  Unrated)
Karas: The Prophecy
This anime is just pure eye-candy. The animation is so fluid as it blends 2-d and 3-d effects that it's just lovely to behold. The action is amazing, and the English dub was one of the best I've heard. Highly recommended for any anime or sci-fi fan.
56
Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003,  R)
Kill Bill: Volume 1
Dear god, Quentin has done it yet again! It's the zenith of everything that makes Tarantino films what they are; over the top violence, spectacular acting, amazing story, and out of sequence story line. I much prefer the first volume to the second (unlike most people) but that might be my affinity for Asian cinema coming to the surface. I adore this movie with all my heart and would recommend that everyone see it at least once.
57
Kill Bill, Volume 2 (2004,  R)
Kill Bill, Volume 2
The continuation of Quentin's most daring film yet. Just as good as Volume One, but lacks a certain something that made the first one so likeable. This one is definitely more story/dialogue oriented, and I think that's why so many people prefer it to the first. But I must admit the ending was quite disappointing, leaving it feeling anticlimactic. But I respect Quentin for doing it; it fits in with how he does things, so I probably should have expected it.
58
Constantine (2005,  R)
59
Edward Scissorhands (1990,  PG-13)
60
V for Vendetta (2006,  R)
V for Vendetta
This movie rocked my socks! Everything about it is amazing; the acting (even Natalie's) the action, and especially the story. I can't remember a time when I saw a flick quite like this. I'd give it ten out of five stars if I could.

The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers (2002,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers
One of the best films ever made. Plain and simple. Same goes for the other two.
66
The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King (2003,  PG-13)
67
The Royal Tenenbaums (2001,  R)
68
Van Helsing (2004,  PG-13)
69
Fight Club (1999,  R)
Fight Club
This film really struck home; it reflects my feelings of the society we live in and my cynical out look on just everything in general. Can be really depresssing if you're not in the right mood, but overall it is pure genius.
70
Die, Monster, Die! (Monster of Terror) (1965,  Unrated)
71
Phone Booth (2003,  R)
Phone Booth
This film does a surprisingly good job of keeping you on the edge of your seat the whole time, despite the fact that the whole thing takes place in a phone booth.

Colin Farrell does a good job of acting panicked and scared, and Keifer's voice as the sniper is chilling and mezmerizing to listen to.

Short, interesting, and very entertaining.
72
Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (1991,  PG)
Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead
I am just awestruck by this movie. I went into it thinking it was going to be a comedy, but it turned out to be much, MUCH more than that. Yes, it is quite hilarioius, but it is also intensely philosophical with so many levels that I haven't even begun to comprehend them. It's ingenius no matter how you look at it, and is most definitely one of those films you have to watch more than once. Gary and Tim were excellent, and had amazing chemistry which was just a treat to behold. This is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time, and I'd recommend it to any Shakespeare fan, or fans of witty writing and excellent acting in general.

The Big Lebowski (1998,  R)

Domino (2005,  R)

The Proposition (2005,  R)
The Proposition
When I first saw this film, I was quite put off by it. But the more I thought about it the more I liked it, and when I watched it a second then a third time, I came to realize how absolutely brilliant it is. The story is simple but beautifully executed, with superb acting by Guy Pearce, Ray Winstone, and John Hurt. The contrasts between the dark interiors of houses or caves with the stark almost alien sunlight of the outback was a thing to behold, and when matched with the haunting music created an atmosphere that is unforgettable. The world depicted is repugnantly real with dirt and blood clinging to every face and imbedded in every fingernail. Flies are everywhere, and you can almost smell the sweat and grime clinging to the character's bodies. Most definitely worth watching for any fans of the Western genre.
77
Big Fish (2003,  PG-13)
78
La leggenda del pianista sull'oceano (The Legend of 1900) (1998,  R)
La leggenda del pianista sull'oceano (The Legend of 1900)
I have never been so profoundly moved while watching a film as I was when I first saw this. It brought me to tears with practically every scene, even if it wasn't sad at all. Something about it is just so touching and infinitely tragic, and Tim Roth's performance is both humorous and saddening as the amazing piano player 1900. The ending especially really got to me, and just thinking about it is making me tear up. One of the most inspiring and just overall enjoyable films I have ever had the joy of seeing, and it is most definitely on my top ten best movies ever list.
79
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (2005,  R)
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
This is one of the most innovative flicks I have ever seen. Not only is it superbly acted by everyone in it, but the story in general is fantastic and amazingly entertaining. The way it took all of the cliched Hollywood devices and completely shattered them was immensely refreshing and unexpected. I also recommend watching the gag reels; they're as funny as the movie (especially Val Kilmer).

85
The Departed (2006,  R)
The Departed
I really enjoyed this movie. A LOT. And even though it started out kind of iffy, the longer it went one the more spectacular it got. All the actors were phenomenal, but Leo blew me away the most. The intensity in which he played his character was amazing, especially how he was able to just ooze anxiety and panic, making it almost palpable. And of course the cinematography was top notch; Scorsese used all his usual devices, and a few that were strange but worked rather well. Oh, and the end; my GOD what an end!! Never have I seen anything like it, and I still can't get it out of my head. I will most definitely see this many times, and would recommend it to anyone as long as they have a strong stomach and don't mind a bit of colorful language.

Snakes on a Plane (2006,  R)
Snakes on a Plane
This movie was everything I'd hoped for and more. It was ten times cheesier than I imagined, and about a hundred times badly acted. But since that was what I was expecting, I had a BLAST watching it.

Samuel was great as usual, and paired with all the other annoying actors it was comedic gold. And it actually startled me a few times; a very nice surprise.

All in all a movie so incredibly bad it came back around and became excellent. Definitely a very entertaining film.
94
The Illusionist (2006,  PG-13)
95
Smokin' Aces (2007,  R)
96

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996,  R)
From Dusk Till Dawn
Ha ha, oh man, this movie is just a BLAST to watch. Not only do you get QT's great dialogue (yeah, yeah, I always have to mention it, don't I?) but you also have some ugly-ass vampires and more carnage than you can shake a stick at. Like most people already know it feels like two seperate movies, the first and second half quite different from eachother. But despite that they blend pretty well, making the strange B-movie horror just that much more entertaining. It's great fun and definitely a good flick to watch when you're bored. I loved it!

Hannibal Rising (2007,  R)
Hannibal Rising
I was absolutley floored by this movie. I went in expecting a fairly good prequel with some tasty gory scenes, but I came out in awe of the cinematogrophy and acting.

For one, I think that Gaspard Ulliel was a perfect choice for young Hannibal. He expertly captures the "intelligent madness" so-to-speak, and was pretty enough to ogle over but was frightening enough to make you realize just who he was portraying.

The scenery was gorgeous, and the battle sequences in the beginning were so spectacular they could have been their own movie.

I also found that for how violent you'd think it would be, it actually wasn't. All the really gruesome scenes showed very little, and were only alluded to. It was very tastefully done and focused more on character developement than cheap bloody thrills.

The only drawback though was that it ended too abrupty. I would liked to have seen at least another half hour, but it's understandable given the time limit.

Overall I think they did an excellen job adapting the book (I'd hope so; Thomas Harris himself wrote the screenplay) and is probably the best Hannibal movie right after Silence of the Lambs.

Equilibrium
This is quite the satisfying film. The action was amazing, and the acting was top-notch. Dialogue left something to be desired, but given the content it was understandable. It also didn't linger on unnecessary plot points, i.e. a drawn out love story, which was refreshing. But the most alluring aspect was most definitely the action sequences. Some of the best I've ever seen, and way more intense than the Matrix, which this film is constantly compared to. The main difference between the two is that this film had everything the Matrix lacked while cutting away the fat. Great fun for any sci-fi or gun/kung-fu afficionados.

Cruising
I had high expectations going into watching this movie, and I'm glad to say that they were not only met, but surpassed. This is an intricate and surreal thriller, with so many layers that even repeat viewing will only scratch at the surface. Very controversial for it's time, and with good reason. Graphic and engrossing, with an amazing performance by Al Pacino. Highly recommended.

Day of the Dead (1985,  Unrated)
Day of the Dead
By far my favorite of Romero's zombie flicks. Has a philosophical element I felt the others lacked, focusing more on how to deal with zombies and what makes them tick than how to simply eradicate them. The dynamic between the scientists and soldiers was fascinating, and had a tension that permeated every scene. You knew they would blow up at any second, but the when was what drove the story. I also loved Bub; quite possibly the cutest zombie I've ever seen, and who also gave a whole new dimension to the previously faceless, apparently stupid zombie hordes.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969,  PG)
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Ah, this is THE ultimate buddy movie. The chemistry between Newman and Redford is captivating; I loved watching them bicker and carry on like an old married couple, lol. I also liked how quickly it moved; it went from thing to another but did it flawlessly. The scenes where they were being tracked and the final shoot-out were some of the most suspensful I've seen in a film. Everything about it is perfect, and although it's an older flick, it's timeless in its appeal.

Ravenous (1999,  R)
Ravenous
Happened to catch this little gem a few weeks ago on IFC Grindhouse. Didn't expect much -the premise alone is almost laughable- but I was pleasantly surprised. A taut thriller with hefty amounts of gore and a dash of dark humor, not to mention stellar acting by everyone in it. The music is hypnotic and quirky, matching the tone of the film perfectly (although most people find it annoying). And if you care to plunge deeper into the narrative, it has some interesting insight on Manifest Destiny. Also, one of the best endings I've ever seen. NOT to be missed.
142
There Will Be Blood (2007,  R)
143
Sleuth (2007,  R)
Sleuth
Sleuth is basically an hour and a half of Jude Law and Michael Caine trying to mind-fuck each other into submission, and damn if it isn't fun to watch. Their chemistry is electric, both men verbally sparring and matching wits in a battle to win Andrew Wyke's (Caine) wife and prove their masculinity. But what starts out as a meeting of two men trying to work out their differences spirals into an out of control war between the two characters. What are the lies, half-truths, and truths? It's hard to tell, and it appears that the characters themselves don't know either, enacting a series of roleplays that go from violent to sexual in a bid to out-bluff the other. As the stakes get higher so does the tension, the story going in unexpected directions that keeps the viewer on edge and begging for more. A brilliant film that stands out by itself, and shouldn't be compared to the original for its worth.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007,  R)
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
I really wanted to like this movie, but I just couldn't do it. For a musical it was decent, but I found myself thinking that it might have worked better if it wasn't. There seemed to bee too much singing and not enough character development, leaving me cold to the characters and the plot in general. But then again, I'm not a huge fan of musicals to begin with, so my opinion might be a tad harsh. Otherwise I thought Depp was good, and Sacha Baron Cohen ended up being quite fun to watch for how little screen time he had.
145
Closer (2004,  R)
146
Revolver (2005,  R)
Revolver
I can see why so many people find this movie presumptuous or convoluted; it's fairly dense and gets somewhat confusing towards the end, but that's why I found it so amazing. There are layers upon layers of meaning that make this one of the most intriguing films I have ever seen. Ritchie also abandons his usual mix of contemporary music for classical, giving the film the classy and surreal feel it deserves. And on a side note, I found that if you know a bit about Kabbala, it isn't nearly as hard to understand - so if you're really stumped, pick up a book about Kabbalism and read up. Trust me, it helps.
147
Natural Born Killers (1994,  NC-17)
Natural Born Killers
I've been avoiding this film for years, as I'm a die-hard Tarantino fan and the idea of any perversion of his work seemed like blasphemy, but upon watching NBK I realized that Oliver Stone didn't completely botch it. There are traces of QT throughout, and along with the actors made this an actually enjoyable experience despite the sheer insanity of the style and plot.
