Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008,  PG-13)
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 4.5 Stars
Had all the adventure of Raiders, the wit and fun of Last Crusade, and even darker elements like Temple of Doom. This Indy adventure fits right into the series and seems to make them all feel together. Set in 1957 when space and aliens and atomic warfare were all scares this Indy addresses them all and pits Indy against (no not Nazis) Russians during the Cold War. Fast paced and clever it even brings back Raiders star Karen Allen to reprise her role as Marion Ravenwood. Spielberg, Lucas, and Ford do it again in this welcome addition to the adventures of Indiana Jones.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2) (2008,  PG-13)
Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2) 4.5 Stars
Expands on the already fascinating universe of Hellboy. Goes far into the mythos of the comics uncovering an entire fantasy world of elves, goblins, and many other vast and intricate creatures. del Toro really pulls all the stops on the creature department this time.
The plot is well-done and the characterizations build well on each other. Time has passed from the first but it feels similar yet new all the same. Side characters like Abe Sapien and Liz become main characters and we even see a young Hellboy, uh, boy. Newcomer to the team is Johann who feels like he is right out of Ghostbusters but fits in well with his attitude and abilities.
The special effects and technical aspects are amazing and the film does not feel like a sequel at all but it's own entity. A job well done and del Toro deserves the credit due. Has all the moments of the first (humor, action, cats, hot tempers, fun) and yet adds so much more. An incredible sequel and an amazing film.

WALL-E (2008,  G)
WALL-E 4.5 Stars
With realistic "real" feeling graphics and a very unique story for an animated feature this is another one of Pixar's great and unique films. The hapless love-struck robot is instantly likeable and we feel the emotions he does the entire movie which is an amazing thing since he is a robot. Fresh jokes and stunning visual images make this a technically great film and most likely a fan favorite. The friendly little robot will not soon be forgotten.

Iron Man (2008,  PG-13)
Iron Man 4.5 Stars
Totally awesome. A very worthy addition to the Marvel movie collection ranking up there with the Spider-Man films and X2. Fun and exhilarating while having a well developed plot. Flows wonderfully and does not feel like a 2 hour film at all. The acting is well done and not forced and there is definite chemistry there. I hope they bring the Iron clad Marvel back for another flight.

The Incredible Hulk (2008,  PG-13)
The Incredible Hulk 4.0 Stars
Very good adaptation by Marvel and well done film also. Develops the Hulk more and introduces the Abomination, the Leader, and Doc Sampson. Exhilarating and action packed fun.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008,  PG)
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian 4.5 Stars
Exciting and adventurous. Again follows the book decently and adds wonderful character Reepicheep the mouse warrior. New characters and a more action filled story make this a worthy watch but it also contains a good plot.

Get Smart (2008,  PG-13)
Get Smart 3.5 Stars
Clever and used lots of references to the classic show. True fans of the show will appreciate it even if it does feel very modern comedy like. Still it used slapstick and Carell is always funny. It was fun to get smart again.

Speed Racer (2008,  PG)
Speed Racer 3.5 Stars
Very vibrant and colorful with fun and action and plot as well. Suprisingly deals more with plot and story than it does racing. Although it was not expected it was enjoyable to have a pretty good plot. There were elements right out of the cartoon such as Speed and Racer X racing against each other one night, and Pops Racer being a champion wrestler, and Trixie flying the helicopter, and the Mammoth Car. The actors looked just like the cartoon characters and the whole thing felt like the cartoon came to life. The special effects are mind blowing and the whole thing is a fun and awesome ride.

Kung Fu Panda (2008,  PG)
Kung Fu Panda 3.5 Stars
Funny and creative with an interesting mix of CGI and anime. However, Black basically carried the story and the humor and so the movie feels like that sport team that banks on their one good player. Black's character Po was developed as was Hoffman's Shifu but the rest of the characters were simply there. Great cast even if they are rarely heard (who knew Jackie Chan was a voice till the end credits?). Fun, fast, and forgettable.

Penelope (2006,  PG)
Penelope 3.5 Stars
A deligtful fairytale comedy that suprised me as to its clevernes and enjoyment. Having expected a chik-flick I was suprised to find a clever little story that has something for everyone. Ricci and McAvoy deliver wonderful performances and Peter Dinklage gives one of his best. O'Hara does what she does best and Witherspoon is perhaps the weakest link. All in all a good film that is worth watching.

Horton Hears a Who! 3.5 Stars
Great visualization and CGI. Very crisp and original film which succeeds in bringing Dr. Seuss' fantastic worlds to life. Funny and smart with timeless values and the quotes from the book make this a definite watch.

The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008,  PG)
The Spiderwick Chronicles 3.5 Stars
Creative and intriguing yet unfortunately has the disadvantage of following similar popular films such as Jumanji, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and the Harry Potter films. Still brings the fantasy world into our own in a well done modern way while still being "fantastical". The acting is good and the story is interesting it just seems to lack a real grabber- when it finally fully pulls you into the story it seems to end which is disappointing. Still, all in all it is a good movie and enjoyable to watch.

10,000 B.C. (2008,  PG-13)
10,000 B.C. 3.5 Stars
Well developed and filmed with more focus on plot than action. The trailer misleads this though by showing scenes which imply more action. Decent acting and an epic feel make this worth watching at least once.

Cloverfield (2008,  PG-13)
Cloverfield 3.0 Stars
Well crafted idea and good follow through. A few issues throughout and leaves a lot to be desired but the unknown makes this movie. We would like to know more but we know only as much as if it was real and all we had was that video tape. Ingenious and original. A cool film that is centered in the real world through camcorder giving the world parameters and boundaries. The subway scene felt like overkill, but the overall effect was nice.
