Die Hard is the film that made Bruce Willis an action star. This first film of the series is the best due to being the smartest and the best acted. It's also the only action film that manages to make me shed a few tears. No scene ever gets to me like the one where Reginald VelJohnson fires his gun.
Murtaugh, a cop feeling his age, is stuck with a new partner. His name is Riggs (Mel Gibson) and he has a bit of a death wish after losing his wife. Murtough loses his cool when Riggs actually jumps off the building with a suicidal man.
They of course eventually bond and when Murtaugh''s daughter is kidnapped, Riggs just might be his only hope in getting her back. The movie is fun with a good action. However, it just gets a little silly when the police just sit back and let Riggs have a 1 on 1 fight on Murtaugh's front lawn. I can watch it over and over again, but for some reason I love the 2nd one even more.
I love this one, the action is great and Gibson and Glover's chemestry is even better than it was in the first.
Joe Pesci is funny in his first appearance in a Lethal Weapon film as well. He wasn't that needed in the 3rd and 4th films though. I also thought the Russian woman was adorable. I can watch this one again and again without getting tired of it.
A mind blowing experience that is superior to it's sequels by far. It has a great story, fantastic action, good science fiction and even kun-fu. This movie just rocks and if only the sequels were this fun!
Speed is one of my favorite action movies. It has an original plot and fine action sequences. I don't agree with the late Gene Siskel that...Keanu Reeves should've nominated though lol.
It is his best work because he looks less blank than usual. But I always wondered how it would've been if Jeff Danials was the main star lol. I think he's the better actor after all.
Dennis Hopper is an awesome villian though and steals the show. William Dafoe is a good actor but in Speed 2 he seemed to think that you have to give an evil laugh every 30 seconds to play a villian. Sandra Bullock also had a better script to work with here than in the sequel.
Travolta and Cage have made plenty of duds since. Face/Off is when they were actually offered good scripts. Same goes for John Woo who's at his best here. He has made plenty of bad moves after Face/Off as well.
Face/Off is smart, fun and well acted. The action also kicks ass. It's better better and more original than a lot of action movies that are made these days.
The 3rd film is mostly good due Jeremy Irons as the villain. He's the best one next to Alan Rickman in the first film. Willis is good as McCaine but not as good as he was in the first 2. This time around he's saving NY from terrorists while having a bad hangover.
This one is probably the most under-rated of the series. It has good action and the plot isn't bad either even if it's not as original as the first film.
This time, John McCaine has to stop terrorists who have taken control over an airport. His wife just happens to be on one of the planes .
Live Free or Die Hard is better than I expected but no way is it as good as the first two. It's more cartoonish than any of them but it is still fun I admit.
Bruce Willis is as macho and cool as always and is the main reason to see the movie. Justin Long is better than I expected as a hacker that the terrorists want dead. He's still annoying at times though. While I'm a Timothy Olyphant fan he's the weakest villain of the series. It's also not his best work at all. Maggie Q as Olyphant's ass kicking g/f is a better villain and has a nice unrealiistic big cartoonish fight with John McCaine.
True Lies was James Cameron's last good action film before he made Titanic and was obsessed with under water documentaries.
True Lies is a fun movie that mixes action with comedy. Arnold plays a spy who's in a boring marriage. His wife (Jamie Lee Curtis) doesn't know he's a spy but is intrigued by a man that claims he's a spy (Bill Paxton).
So in the side plot, he's trying to save his marriage. He also goes up against terrorists in the movie.
Arnold doesn't get much credit for acting ability but he does have chemistry with his co-stars. Although he probably is more fun in his scenes with Tom Arnold than Jamie Lee Curtis. Tom Arnold is his most entertaining in this. While Bill Paxton is also very funny in a small role.
One of the most under-rated action movies. How could a movie where bank robbers wear masks of former presidents get bad reviews ? This movie is just...cool and Patrick Swayze kicks ass in it lol.
What makes it different is that it has copes & robbers.....football.....skydiving and surfing all in one movie. It may be over-stuffed and silly even but it's still beautifully made.
Mel Gibson stars as Max, a cop who's up against a dangerous motorcycle gang. They brought out the worse in him though after they kill his wife and son. So now the hunters have become the hunted.
The first film is probably my least favorite of the 3 films but it's still really good. The car chases and battles aren't as good as in the sequels. But they are still pretty entertaining.
Rambo 4 is an incredibly violent yet entertaining action adventure. It's the best of them all actually. It's short but sweet but certainly not cuddly sweet. Rocky Balboa was a bit better but still this turnt out better than I expected.
I felt like everyone but Rambo's life was in danger in the movie though. He was too much of an animal here, I mean he's like Michael Myers type strong. While it's so violent and even some-what disturbing that you'd think Rob Zombie was directing it. Performance wise though Stallone still does Rocky way better than he does Rambo. Rocky at least has a personality.
In the series it was about a team working together. Here, Tom Cruise made himself his own character with everything about him. It's a total " look at me I'm Tom Cruise" movie. He shows off on a motorcycle, climbing a mountain, driving a fast car and doing spins kicks.
The supporting cast and a lot of the action is what makes it good. Even if the action can be overly silly. It's goofy but also fun. I'd like to see a movie with less Tom Cruise though or no Tom Cruise, that's more like the show.
Hard Target is one of the better Van Damme action pictures. John Woo's direction is the star though. While I also liked Lance Henriksen and Arnold Vosloo as the villains.
Enemy of the State is sort of like the more recent film Eagle Eye. But I like this movie more. Eagle Eye probably keeps you on the edge of your seat more. But I really like this movie due to the huge cast. Gene Hackman is great and I wish he was in more movies of late. Smith works well with him. and they are fun together.
I also loved seeing all these other familiar faces running around. If I named everyone that's in this movie, it may take all day. It's worth checking out.
