Where the Buffalo Roam (1980,  R)
Where the Buffalo Roam
This could be now called the forgotten Bill Murray Movie. Not a big hit with critics but, I think that Bill Murray was perfect for the part of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson.
2
Caddyshack (1980,  R)
Caddyshack
This comedic film changed the genre of movie comedy. Usually it's a disaster to put so many comedians in one film but this one pulls it off. It' was a perfect ensemble of characters for the story. Ted Knight almost stills the show but all are equally great and funny. I loved it and it's become a real classic!
3
Ghost Busters (Ghostbusters) (1984,  PG)
Ghost Busters (Ghostbusters)
Who hasn't seen this? It's hilarious and Ghost busters IV is on the ways!
4
The Razor's Edge (1984,  PG-13)
The Razor's Edge
So can you take Bill Murray Serious? It seems that comedians make good dramatist. Perhaps another forgotten Murray film! I don't think that people should always expect to laugh when they see Bill Murray but at the time it was a difficult transition after Ghost Busters. Still, I became toataly absorbed in this remake originally featuring Tyronne Power. Murray seems to bring more realism to the part. The same facial expressions that are so funny in comedies bring a interesting perspective to this epic tale. The characterization in this film is pure Murray and the genius is that it works in both drama and comedy genres.

Quick Change (1990,  R)
Quick Change
This is one of my favorite Bill Murray Movies. It pairs Murray with Randy Quaid and Geena Davis. They all go together well in this dark comedy that is true the classic definition of comedy. The opining scene is classic Murray"

What About Bob? (1991,  PG)
What About Bob?
I am surprised that Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss
have not been reunited for other projects. The chemistry between the two is what makes this film. Great strory with plenty of laughs. I think it is both Murry and Dreyfuss at their comedic best.
7
Groundhog Day (1993,  PG)
Groundhog Day
I loved this film! It's just fun to watch and I always enjoy seeing over and over again. :>)
8
Mad Dog and Glory (1993,  R)
Mad Dog and Glory
This film pairs Bill Murray with Robert Di Niro. What a match! But ! There is an interesting ingenious twist. Murray is the gangster and Di Niro is the cop. Both actors handle drama and comedy extremely well and they go together well in this film. It's brolliant!
9
Larger Than Life (1996,  PG)
Larger Than Life
This film marks the beginning of more sophisticated comedies for Bill Murray. It's often overlooked but still a great movie.
10
The Man Who Knew Too Little (1997,  PG)
11
Rushmore (1998,  R)
Rushmore
This is Murray's first collaboration with director Wes Anderson and co-written by Owen Wilson. Although Bill Murray is in the supporting role, he steals the show. I would have loved to see Owen Wilson in Jason Schwartzman's part but probably been a little to old.
12
The Royal Tenenbaums (2001,  R)
The Royal Tenenbaums
This film is another collaboration with director Wes Anderson. Bill Murray is part of an all star cast including veteran actor, Gene Hackman. It's a bit quirky but fun to watch the chemistry between the all star cast.
13
Lost In Translation (2003,  R)
Lost In Translation
So, what does he whisper in her ear at the end? This film is probably best described as a 'fish out of water' comedy. Murray is paired with Scarlett Johansson under the direction of Sophia Coppola who also wrote the story for this film. Yes! She is the daughter of Francis Ford Coppola. Some say that it moves a little slow but I enjoy being able to 'absorb' the characters. It makes for a much more interesting film.
14
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004,  R)
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Another Wes Anderson collaboration with an all star cast. Every one shines in this film and no one stills the show. It is just a interesting combination as they each compliment the other and all have a knack for bith comedy and drama. It's subtle humor is ingenious. It's always fun to watch and everytime you do, something new surfaces. The critics missed this one!
15
Broken Flowers (2005,  R)
Broken Flowers
This is perhaps my favorite Bill Murray film. I remember thinking as I walked out of the theater that if you edited out all the prolonged close ups of Bill Murray's expression the film would have been half as long. But! There is a purpose to the technique. You would think that Alexis Dziena still the scene where she walks into the room totally nude but the extended shot of Bill Murray's expression takes it right back. Throughout the film one can imagine what he is thinking in these 'indulget' shots of his expressions. Murray is paired with director Jim Jamusch in this brilliant story with a seemingly simple plot.
