Steve Martin and John Candy are very funny through-out this movie. However, it's the touching ending that is stapled on, that is why I love this movie.
If you need a good laugh then this movie is for you. Especially if you are a baseball fan. It's baseball scene is funnier than all 3 Major League films and that's not a lie.
Tropic Thunder is no doubt Ben Stiller's best comedy in awhile. Jack Black does his best work as well. While Robert Downey Jr. is just as much of a show stealer as the trailers hinted.
I think that both Tom Cruise and Matthew McCounaghey try too hard to be funny in supporting roles though. McCounaghey just looks dopey and lost with no scene where he has to lose his shirt lol. He plays Stiller's agent who's obsessed with getting him a Tivo. While the funny Bill Hadar (Superbad) is wasted as the yes man to Cruise's nutty producer character.
Still it is fun seeing all these big actors in one movie. Stiller also does a fine job with his direction. He does a good job making fun of Hollywood while spoofing classic war films as well. What is also very clever, is how trailers starring characters in the movie are shown before the movie starts. They are hilarious, especially the one with Tobey Maguire.
An extremely funny and always entertaining film about teenagers who want to get laid before they graduate from High School. It sounds like the first American Pie but it's smarter and funner. I can't wait to see it again, I loved this movie!
Elf is one of the better Christmas movies to come out in recent years. I have felt like Will Ferrell can give the same performance in a lot of his movies. However, his work in Elf is kind of different than anything else he has done.
This movie is just as classic as the original. I can't ebelive that so many people at flixster gave the first one low ratings. It's as much of a comedy classic as airplane!
Plus this sequel is certainly better than Airplane 2 lol. The dinner scene at the White House is hilarious and there's many laughs that follow.
I can't believe there's people here who gave the first 2 low ratings. No way are they one star movies. They are way more clever and fun than the Scary Movie films.
This 3rd film may not be as good as the first 2 but it still offers many clever laughs. Plus Nielson interupting the Oscars is as funny as when he interupted a baseball game in the first one. So no way are thse one star movies especially when Leslie Nielson is in top form in all of them!
3 friends search for the groom after a wild bachelor party that they don't remember. There's also a chicken, blow up doll, tiger and a baby in their motel room. The movie was so funny that I was hoping they'd never find their friend, I didn't want it to end.
Bradley Cooper (Yes Man), Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis work great together and are great fun. The movie itself is also great fun and hilarious. Galifianakis' plays the grooms soon to be Brother in-law who's incredibly strange and not all there. He's very funny and steals the show. Everyone else was in top form too though. Just see this movie, it's the funniest of the year so far.
Kingpin is one of the funnier Ferrerlly Brother movies. The entire cast does of their best work. Randy Quaid, especially has never been as funny. He's great as a naive Armish guy, hell, he should have been nominated.
While Woody Harrelson is perfect as a loser ex-bowler. Bill Murray pretty near steals the show though as Harrelson's ego maniac arch enemy. Vanessa Angel is also really good as Harrelson's partner. For a raunchy comedy that's actually funny, check out Kingpin.
I wish Seth Rogen wrote the script for every comedy that came out. Pineapple Express is hilarious and great fun. If you didn't like Superbad though, you might not like this either. I do think it is a lot funnier than it though. Think of Seth Rogen's character from Knocked Up with the weed but guns and crooked cops as well. You also have brilliantly funny fight scenes. Every one of them could even wind up being nominated for Best Fight at the MTV Movie Awards.
While James Franco should just do comedy roles for now on. He does his best work here than he has in any other movie. Danny R. McBride also is hilarious as their friend Red who can sure take a beating I'll just say lol. His scenes might just be worth seeing the movie for alone. Bill Hadar (Superbad) makes a very funny appearance in the opening of the movie as well.
My only problem with it is that it would have been great to actually hear the M.I.A Paper Planes song in the movie that's from the trailers. It went great with the movie in the trailers and it's not in it at all. You also get a scene in the end where the characters talk about basically everything that happened. Which wasn't needed. Still, I didn't care that much since I laughed so much that the movie made me feel like a stoner myself.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a brilliant comedy with everyone in top form. Jason Segel has a future in movies. I like him in How I Met Yiour Mother but never saw him as talented as he has proved to be in films like Knocked Up and now Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Hell he's even bold enough to show his penis more than once just for laughs. Which is pretty gross though lol.
Here he plays a man who does the musical score for a CSI type show. His girlfriend iSarah Marshall (Kristen Bell) is the star. She breaks up with him for someone else. He goes on a vacation to Hawaii to try and move on. That;'s going to be hard though since she's there too with her new rockstar boyfriend.
What I love about this movie is that everyone involved gives their A game. Russel Brand who I've never seen before is simply hilarious as Sarah's new b/f. While Paul Rudd as a stoner surfer is also good for laughs. Bill Hadar (Superbad) is funny as well as Segel's supportive step-brother. Plus for once he doesn't have any lines that refer to StarWars lol.
Jonah Hill (Knocked Up, Superbad) is funny as a waiter that stalks Brand. He still sticks out like sore thumb though since he looks exactly the same as he is did in Knocked Up and Superbad. Mia Kunas (That 70's Show, voice of Meg in Family Guy) I think does her best work though. She plays a Motel Hostess that Segal starts to fall for. I should also mention that Kristen Bell shows that she has a future in movies too. She made a much better role choice here than she did with that awful movie Pulse.
This movie is just good for laughs. Even the scenes of the Sarah Marshall tv series is funny. I mean William Baldwin plays her partner who's basically spoofing William Peterson on CSI. He's surprisingly pretty funny. Look for a nice cameo by Jason Bateman in the credits as well.
Role Models can be added the list of good of good comedies that have came out this year. Despite all the cursing it manages to have some charm.
It's also about time that Paul Rudd actually got some spotlight. He has been funny in supporting roles and he's funny here too but in a leading role for once. Seann William Scott is funny too of course.
The roles they are playing aren't really far from roles they have played in the past though. I mean Rudd is as obsessed with his ex in this and talked about her as much as he did in the 40 yr Old Virgin. While Scott playing a low life is nothing new either. But who cares, no one does it better than either of them.
Christopher Mintz-Plasse gets to do something a lot different than his Mclovin role though. Here he's like a War Craft nerd, except he actually dresses up like one of the characters. He also does make believe battles with other nerds that dress up in medieval out-fits. Those scenes are very funny. The kid who curses a lot and who's obsessed with breasts is hilarious as well. Just see this movie!
I really enjoyed this movie. It's about a British writer (Simon Pegg) who's trying to make it in NY writing for a popular magazine.
He's mostly struggling due to being a screw up who always either does something wrong or says something wrong. Simon Pegg is a lot of fun in the movie and is pretty damn funny. Megan Fox is surprisingly good too as a Paris Hilton type of star that he has a big crush on.
Kirsten Dunst is good as well and works fine Pegg. She plays a writer he works with that thinks he's a jerk from the start. She does find herself amused by his antics after awhile though.
You also have Gillian Anderson as Fox's agent and Jeff Bridges as the boss of the magazine. I liked seeing all of them in one movie and they're all good.
What I liked about the movie the most though is how badly the Pegg character fits in with these rich and stuck up people he's surrounded by. One of my favorite is when he tells a a director that the best movie ever is Con Air.
The movie is very funny but it also works as a romantic comedy. Since it can also be a little raunchy, it reminded me of There's Something About Mary a little. But I kind of liked this movie more.
I find that Jim Carrey overacts and can try too hard in comedies and I expected Yes Man to just be like Liar Liar. But it's actually smarter and Carrey is surprisingly more restrained in a comedy than usual.
The supporting cast is also very likable. You have Bradley Cooper (Alias, Wedding Crashers) as Carrey's best-friend who wants him to loosen up and go out more. Rhys Darby who I never seen before is hilarious as his boss who throws Harry Potter and 300 parties. It was also nice to see Danny Masterson (Hyde in That 70's Show) in a supporting role as Carrey's other good friend. I hope he gets more roles, he was pretty funny in this.
While, Zooey Deschanel (Elf, Almost Famous) makes me wanna go right out and try to meet a girl like her pretty much every time she's in a movie. Her scenes with her band where she just sings anything that comes to mind are pretty funny. She also has great chemistry with Carrey.
I don't know why some critics had to knock the age difference between her and Carrey. Who cares since they work really good together. Carrey wrapping plastic around his face was knocked too with one critic saying that it's nothing new from Carrey. Yes, he has done that before, yet it still actually made me laugh . The movie isn't totally fresh, yet I found it fun due to the cast. The movie is very under-rated.
Some people called it a rip-off while it was in theaters because it isn't that long. It is however very funny and smart though. Hell, it's the uncrowned best animated film of last year.
Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson make a great team and Rachel McAdams is hot! Plus Will Farrel makes a pretty damn funny appearance as....a funeral crasher.
Owen needs to get better soon, so he can make another movie with Vince Vaughn. He works better with him than he has with anyone.
Richard Dreyfus and Bette Midler star as a rich couple that take in a homeless man (Nick Nolte). Dreyfuss invites him to stay as long as he wants and Midler is a snob that doesn't want him there.
I'd say that the heart of the movie is Richard Dreyfuss and Nick Nolte. They're pretty fun together. The scene where Nolte gets Dreyfuss to spend the night with the homeless is hilarious. I also love how Nolte trains the dog.
Better Midler is a little annoying at first but is a little likable as the movie goes on. The sexually confused son is annoying through-out though.
A Fish Called Wanda is an hilarious caper film with everyone in top form. Kevin Kline especially has never been this fun. He's very funny and steals the show.
Robin Williams gives a touching and funny performance as a recently divorced dad who just wants to spend time with his kids. He also needs a job, so he disguises himself as a woman so he can be their new maid.
Williams is extremely likeable here. It's Sally Field I could barely stand. I mean she divorces him because he throws a big party for their son for his birthday. When she said no to a big party. I mean I rather have that as a dad than my dad who never bought me anything for my birthday or Christmas and my mom's still with him lol. So I think she over-reacts and her decision to divorce him hurts the dad and the kids. But if she didn't divorce him there wouldn't be a movie lol. Still I didn't like her. Williams is amazing here though as Mr.s Doubtfire.
I haven't seen this in years but a lot of the jokes are still stuck in my head. It figures that the sequel is what critics like when it's not as funny.
I know this isn't going to give me many points with women since most love Adam Sandler. I think he's one of the most over-rated comedians though. His ego must be huge to make a movie where he has top billing over Jack Nicholson.
I also think it's dumb how in his movies the whole world is centered on his one character. It's like if he's making a movie from his Happy Madison company, he won't do it unless his character is treated as if he's the most important guy on the planet.
That's what almost ruins Anger Management. It's a good movie until it's stupid twist reveils that everyone in the friggen movie were in on making him a tougher person so he'd have the guts to ask his g/f to marry him. Oh no I gave away the twist, but really all you have to do is watch all his other movies to see the twist coming. I mean in what one of his movies isn't he treated as if the whole universe is centered around his one character.
Plus I'm also tired of him type-casting himself as a tough guy that always dishes it out but never gets the butt kicking he deserves. It makes me surprised that he wasn't the guy that changed his name to Vin Diesel. I don't get it, if people are tired of Will Ferrell playing his Anchorman part over and over again, then why aren't they tired of Sandler giving the same performance that he has for like 13 yrs ? I also feel bad for Seth Rogen to have the bad taste in making a movie with Adam Sandler. The movies may make money but it won'y do anything for his promising career, just ask Kevin James. It might've killed his movie career before it even started.
Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers) is back and the Pink Panther has been stolen once again. It's believed that it was taken by a crook that calls himself the Phantom.
Peter Sellers is naturally funny in the role. Unlike, Steve Martin who tries too hard to be funny in the new films. Martin also looks silly with white hair and a brown mustache.
I have never seen any of the old films until now. They are easy to get into though and still for a laugh. So there was no need for the lame new movies.
It's hard not to laugh while watching Get Smart. It's constantly funny with Steve Carell in top form. Even Anne Hathaway who I didn't think was right for the part of a spy was in top form. The Rock and Alan Arkin get some laughs as well. I also liked the small appearance by Bill Murray.
The movie is a goofy good time. I felt silly with how much it made me giggle. I just found it predictable on who the secret bad guy was. While the movie also runs out of steam a little towards the end. Neverless I recommend Get Smart for a good laugh. It's also Carell's best movie since the 40 Year Old Virgin.
Zack and Miri Make a Porno was a lot smarter and sweet than I expected. That doesn't mean that it didn't have it's gross and raunchy moments though.
Some people say that Seth Rogen can only play a stoner and that he only appeals to stoners. Well, he doesn't play one here and he was still very funny. Elizabeth Banks has been good in other movies but I think she's better in this than she was in anything. While the supporting cast is also very good. Jason Mewes especially is hilarious without playing Jay, even though I saw more of him in this than I ever wanted to see lol.
