My Favorite Comedies
These are the movies I could (and do) watch over and over again, and I would laugh just as hard each and every time as the first time I saw them.
Excepting the first four or so, they're not in any particular order.

Some Like It Hot (1959, Unrated)
This movie is hysterical from start to finish. The story centers around two male band members who, in order to avoid being rubbed out by the mob, disguise themselves as women and join an all-female band on its way to Florida. Jack Lemmon gives one of the most hilarious performances in a film ever, and even Marilyn Monroe (Who I usually get annoyed with very quickly.) is a joy to watch. |

The Great Dictator (1940, G)
Spoofing Adolf Hitler while World War II was still on-going couldn't have been an easy feat, but Chaplin pulled it off with razor-sharp wit and elegance. He was such a fantastic comedic actor, I think it sometimes goes unnoticed what a brilliant filmmaker he really was. The Great Dictator is both hilarious and heartfelt -- with intelligence to boot (something seemingly absent in most other satires). It feels decades ahead of its time. Wonderful film. A true masterpiece. |
