The Ghost And Mr. Chicken (1966, Unrated)
Perhaps the most classic and arguably the best of the Don Knotts' films (definitely of his Universal Studios films). The film begins with some classic Knotts gags and the use of his nervous shaking is used nicely throughout the film. TV actors are scattered throughout as characters and the whole thing is enjoyable due to the humorous take and lightheartedness of the film making it very viewer-friendly. Vic Mizzy's music is eerie and fun at the same time constantly keeping our senses tuned to the story and events and adding to the humor or "hauntings". Good timing, acting, and humor make this a lot of fun to watch. A classic of good fun (albeit B movie) cinema history. |

No Deposit, No Return (1976, G)
Classic Disney at its best. A hilarious story about two safe crackers who get kidnapped so to speak by a couple of kids. With slapstick, Don Knotts, David Niven, a crazy car chase, and well developed plot this film has it all. Darren McGavin and Don Knotts make a great duo and David Niven performs wonderfully as usual. One of the great Disney films |

The Shakiest Gun In The West (1968, Unrated)
A good fun comedic western which pays homage to previous western films. Don Knotts is hilarious as always and pulls of the dentist/gunslinger routine well. Doc the Haywood wears black despite being a hero - perhaps showing how little Dr. Jesse W. Haywood about the west. The plot feels like some of his other Universal Studios films but still worth the watch since the scenarios and sequences are all pretty much unique. Lots of fun with a catchy opening theme song and more great music by Vic Mizzy. The closet change scene is especially funny as is the opening dentist school routine. |

The Private Eyes (1981, PG)
Funny spoof on the classic Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson movies. Don Knotts is Inspector Winship and Tim Conway is Dr. Tart. The plot isn't very deep but the humor is and the film is quite funny. The two dim-witted detectives are sent in to solve a murder by the man who was murdered. As if that's not enough the servants begin to be killed one by one. A race to find the killer before everyone dies turns into comical fun in a house of "horror" with suprising results. |

Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo (1977, G)
Fun and a great family film. Dean Jones returns as Jim Douglas and Don Knotts plays his hilarious mechanic. While it lacks the originality and cleverness of the first in the series this new director to the Herbie series does put the focus on Herbie and develops the little car's characteristics more. |
