The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2001, PG-13)
Lord of the Rings is the best fantasy movie ever made. Very close to the books. The Ring Wraiths are just how I pictured them. Also the casting of Ian McKellen as Gandalf was awesome. He looked and sounded the part of Gandalf when ever I read the books. In fact the entire cast did great in their roles. You can tell that director Peter Jackson was a fan of the books with the care he took to make these films. One of my all time favorite films. |

The Lord of the Rings (1978, PG)
This is a decent animated version of Lord of the Rings. The story is close to the book and the animation is decent. They do however not get to do the entire story. They only seem to do the a part of Lord of the Rings book. I am not sure if they decided to not continue or lack of funding to make more. I like Peter Jackson's version better. But if your a Tolkien fan then you should enjoy this. |

The Hobbit (1978, Unrated) |
|
| 6 |
Willow (1988, PG)
This was a good fantasy movie. Sure it's no Lord of the Rings. But it has it's charm. Sort of in the same realm as Conan. Has great F/X for it's time. Val Kilmer was my favorite in the film. I loved his Mad Martigan character. Jean Marsh played a excellent evil queen. One of Geroge Lucas better films outside of the Star Wars and the Indiana Jones series. Just a fun film to watch. |
|
| 7 |
Conan the Barbarian (1982, R)
As a fan of the Conan books and comics I thought they did a good job on this film. The film does look dated and the F/X is not that great as films are today. It is even a bit cheesy here and there. But it has it's charm. Arnold Schwarzenegger was a perfect casting choice for Conan. James Earl Jones was quite good as the main villain. With a good story and action this made for a fun fantasy adventure film. |
|
| 8 |
Conan the Destroyer (1984, PG)
Good sequel to a fantasy movie. I am a fan of the books and comics of Conan. So I enjoyed the film. A good take on a great character like Conan. Arnold Schwarzenegger was a perfect casting choice for Conan. Now the film does seem dated now and the F/X and fight scenes are not as good as films made now. But it has it's charm. I still enjoy watching this fantasy adventure film. |
|
| 9 |
Red Sonja (1985, PG-13)
Red Sonja is a spin off from the Conan movies and comics. Not as good as the Conan movies but I still liked it. Arnold Schwarzenegger even makes a cameo in the film as Conan. Your typical fighting, action and fantasy as expected from this type of film. Kind of a campy film. But still enjoyable. Worth a watch if you enjoyed the Conan movies. |
|
| 10 |
Labyrinth (1986, PG)
One of my favorite films as a child. Great story and animation with the puppets. Jim Henson brings puppets to a new level with this film. Sort of a Wizard of Oz for the 80's. I was quite impressed with David Bowie in this. He plays a great villain in the film. A great supernatural tale for kids and adults. |

The Wizard of Oz (1939, G) |

The Prophecy (1995, R) |

Hellboy (2004, PG-13) |
|
| 15 |
Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2) (2008, PG-13)
This was a great sequel. Had most of the original cast back. Great blend of Sci-fi, fantasy and comedy. The entire cast did a great job. The movie had a good flow to it. Makes you want to see a third film made. Ron Perlman is outstanding again as Hellboy. And good to see the character Abe Sapian get more of a role in this film. One of the best comics to film movies out there. A recommended must see. |
|
| 16 |
Ninja Scroll (1995, Unrated)
This is one of my favorite Japanese animations. A great story of a Ronin named Jubei fighting supernatural enemies to stop a plot by his old nemesis. A great mix of a action and the supernatural in the film. This is not for kids. More for adults due to the violence and nudity. But the animation is very well done. It is a joy to watch. |
|
| 17 |
King Kong (1933, Unrated)
This is a classic in film and sci-fi. The film was great for it's time in 1933. This is actually quite a long film. But worth watching if you enjoy the old black and white films. The animation is not great compared to today's standards but still enjoyable for what they accomplished. The film is a great story of beauty and the beast. With a tragic ending of course. If you liked the remake by Peter Jackson then check this film out to compare the story. |
|
| 18 |
The Mummy (1999, PG-13)
This is a good action fantasy flick. Even though it can be kind of cheesy at times it was just a pure fun adventure film with some comedy parts through out. The Mummy has some great F/X scenes through out the film. Brendan Fraser, John Hannah, and Rachel Weisz are all great in this. The mummy was a great villain in the film. I liked how he had many different powers through out the film. Plus a great origin story. The film is campy at times but you just have to look past that have a fun time with the film and characters. Worth watching. |
|
| 19 |
The Mummy Returns (2001, PG-13)
This is a decent sequel to the huge hit movie the Mummy. We have almost the entire cast from the original back for this sequel. Brendan Fraser is still great as the hero of the film. Rachel Weisz and John Hannah are also quite good in their roles. The Mummy from the original film is back this time and wants to destroy the Scorpion King and use his armies to conquer the world. The movie has a solid story and some great F/X and action sequences. Not as good as the original but was worth a watch if you liked the first film. |
|
| 20 |
Beowulf & Grendel (2005, R) |
|
| 21 |
Beowulf (2007, PG-13)
This was a great film. I saw it at the IMAX in 3D. Well worth watching. Great action scenes and the CGI was very well done. It was odd at times watching actors like John Malkovich and Anthony Hopkins animated. But once the story began I got over this and just enjoyed the film. A great take on a classic story. |
|
| 22 |
Ghost Busters (Ghostbusters) (1984, PG)
A classic film from the 80's. Ghostbusters delivers in the supernatural comedies. Starting with a great cast Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson and Rick Moranis. This is my favorite film starring Bill Murray. He was very funny. Also kudos to Rick Moranis and Dan Aykroyd. They also were very funny. With a great story and some good F/X this was a great film. I always enjoy watching this film. |
|
| 23 |
Ghostbusters 2 (1989, PG)
This is the sequel to the original Ghostbusters. Not as good as the original but it still was a fun watch. We get almost the whole cast back from the original. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis are still very funny in this. The F/X is still great for this sequel. The story is solid but I expected something more from the film. But I still enjoy watching this film over and over. Though not as great as the original it is worth a watch if you liked the first film. |
|
| 24 |
Doctor Strange (2007, PG-13) |
|
| 25 |
Erik The Viking (1989, PG-13) |
|
| 26 |
The Sixth Sense (1999, PG-13)
Haley Joel Osment sees dead people and I see a classic film. I almost didn't see the ending coming. All the clues were there. This is the film that made M. Night Shyamalan famous as a director/writer.Up there with Signs and Unbreakable as his best films. Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment give top notch performances. A spooky fun film that keeps you thinking through out it. A recommended film to watch. |
|
| 27 |
Constantine (2005, R) |
|
| 28 |
Gremlins (1984, PG)
A classic. Loved it as a kid and still enjoy watching it today. The Gremilns and Gizmo are really done well in this film. . This is one of those films that could have been cheesy but they made it into a well done story and decent F/X. No big name actors were ever needed for the film. They took a young unknown at the time and cast him as the lead. And it worked. To this day I still remember all the rules about taking care of Gizmo. I think I have watched this enough now to know. The Gremlins are funny and strange yet they still give that feeling that they would kill you in a second if they had a chance. This movie is sort of a comedy mixed into a supernatural horror. May not be great for young kids. |
|
| 29 |
Gremlins 2 - The New Batch (1990, PG-13)
Gremlins 2 was not as good as the original but was a decent sequel. The film still has that supernatural feel to it but they made it more of a comedy. It does have some very funny scenes with the Gremlins. My favorite Gremlin in this was the one who became super intelligent. Some of the original cast are back. Overall the film could have been better but I still enjoyed watching it. If your a fan of the original then I would suggest checking this film out. |
|

Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003, PG-13) |
|
| 31 |
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006, PG-13)
The second film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. I still prefer the original but this is a godd sequel. Most of the original cast are back in this. Johnny Depp steals the movie again as Captain Jack Sparrow. The films has great action sequences and F/X through out the film. The story basically takes place right after the original film. Overall a solid and entertaining sequel. If you liked the original then you should enjoy this as well. |
|
| 32 |
Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End (2007, PG-13)
This is a great third film in the series. I prefer the original film but this was still good. With some fantastic fight scenes to some great F/X helped make the film. Johnny Depp again was great as Captain Jack Sparrow. Plus great supporting roles from Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley and Geoffrey Rush. The film tied up the story from the second film. They left it off where they could easily bring the characters back for a fourth film. Overall a great fun film. If you enjoyed the first two then you should enjoy this film. |
|
| 33 |
Highlander (1986, R)
There can only be one. This line is the main motto to the immortals in the film and the series. This is the best film of the Highlander series. Christopher Lambert is excellent in his role as immortal Connor MacLeod. Plus with a great performance by Sean Connery as his teacher made this fantasy film that much better. Clancy Brown was great as the main villain in this. With a great story and some excellent battle scenes this made for a good film. If you have to watch any of the Highlander movies I would recommend this one. |
|
| 34 |
Highlander II: The Quickening (Highlander 2) (1991, R)
This sequel is not that great. Is worth a watch if you saw the first installment. You have to watch it a few times to understand the weird depart from the original. They say the immortals are aliens? I'm a fan of the Highlander movies and T.V. show but I think they could have done better on this film. |
|
| 35 |
Highlander III: The Sorcerer (Highlander: The Final Dimension) (1993, R) |
|
| 36 |
Hellboy Animated: Sword of Storms (2006, Unrated)
This is a good animated movie. I'm glad Ron Perlman did Hellboy's voice in this. In fact even Doug Jones, John Hurt and Selma Blair did the voices of each of their characters from the live action movies,. Good story and great animation. The live action and animated films have made me now read the books and comics of Hellboy. If you liked the live action films of Hellboy then you should check this out. |
|
| 37 |
Highlander - Endgame (2000, R)
I liked this film. This is sort of a off shoot from the movies and the television show. You have Adrian Paul as Duncan MacLeod and Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod who are the two main immortals from the films and television series. Plus nice to see Peter Wingfield and Jim Byrnes from the television show in this as well. The film brings a nice mix of the movies and television series history together in this. The story is quite good and the film has tons of action and fight scenes. Plus the F/X was done well in this film. But if you have never seen the Highlander movies and television show you might get lost as to who the characters are and why they do what they do. I am a fan of the movies and television show so I enjoyed this. Worth checking out for Highlander fans. |
|
| 38 |
Hellboy Animated: Blood and Iron (2007, Unrated)
This is a must see for Hellboy fans. Great animation and the cast from the live action movies do the voices as well. Good story. It's great to see past stories on Professor Bruttenholm. Great mix of the Sci-fi and horror in this film. Also this film is a little darker then the first animated film of Hellboy "Sword of Storms". Worth a watch. |
|
| 39 |
King Kong (2005, PG-13)
This is a great remake by director Peter Jackson. I actually like this version better than the original. Maybe because of the better F/X for the film. The original was great for it's time but a remake was needed. Peter Jackson stays true to the original story. The film has a good cast. Naomi Watts, Jack Black and Adrien Brody all give good performances. The F/X was outstanding in this. From King Kong to all of the other creatures and batlles throughout the film was excellent. Now some may find the film starts off slow. Much like the original. But once they get to the island and see King Kong it is a non stop thrill ride from there. The only real drawback to the film may be the length. I liked the film but it did seem to drag a bit. But overall a great remake by Peter Jackson. You can tell the way he made the film and dedication that he was a fan of the original King Kong film. Worth a watch. |
|
| 40 |
Ghost Rider (2007, PG-13)
I thought they did a great job on this Ghost Rider movie. First off the film stayed true to the origin and spirit of the Ghost Rider comic. The film has a fun and entertaining story. The F/X and visuals are fun to watch. The Ghost Rider F/X was great. Nicolas Cage was great as Johnny Blaze. He gave a great performance. The rest of the supporting cast was decent. The film had tons of action and great visuals of the Ghost Rider. A must see for Ghost Rider and Marvel comic book fans. |
|
| 41 |
The Dark Crystal (1982, PG) |
|
| 42 |
Van Helsing (2004, PG-13)
This is a decent supernatural action adventure film. Starring Hugh Jackman as Van Helsing he plays the perfect role as the hero. The film is full of classic monsters like Frankenstein, Dracula and werewolves. Also a great fight scene in the beginning with Van Helsing and Mr.Hyde. The film is full of good F/X and great action sequences. The story is decent and has a good supporting cast. The film is just a pure fun adventure film. Worth a watch. |
|
| 43 |
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003, PG-13)
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is based off of a classic comic book. This adaptation is decent but the books are much better. Taking classic characters like Allan Quatermain, Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, Captain Nemo, Dorian Gray, Mina Harker, Tom Sawyer and the invisible man. I think Tom Sawyer was not need for the film. He was never in the comic books. The film has tons of good F/X and action sequences. The story is decent. But I found that the story seems rushed at times and we never get enough character interaction. But overall this is a fun action adventure movie. |
|
| 44 |
Dragonheart (1996, PG-13)
This is a good fantasy film. Starring Dennis Quaid, Pete Postlethwaite, Dennis Thewlis and Sean Connery as the voice of the dragon. The story is about a knight who loses faith in the old code of honour when a pupil of his abuses his power. This knight blames a dragon for his pupils change and hunts them all down. But in the end the knight befriends the dragon and brings honour back to the code. The F/X on the dragon is quite good. Plus the voice of Sean Connery as the dragon was a perfect casting choice. A fun fantasy adventure film for the family. |
|
| 45 |
Big Trouble in Little China (1986, PG-13)
This is a great over the top fantasy action adventure film. First off this is my favorite Kurt Russell film of all time. His character Jack Burton is your typical tough guy who can whip out the sarcastic lines like nobodys business. His character is so funny through out the film. The film has a decent story and some great action scenes. Even the F/X in this film is quite good. The film can be cheesy at times but that is what gives its charm. This is just a film to have fun with. One of my favorites as a kid and still enjoy today as a adult. A classic from the 80's. |
|
| 46 |
Sleepy Hollow (1999, R)
This is a great new twist on the classic Sleepy Hollow tale. Johnny Depp played a great Ichabod Crane. This film has that Tim Burton look and feel to the film. The story has Ichabod Crane in this film as a city detective who is sent out to investigate a series of murders. Little does he know that a headless horseman is going around killing these people. The film is fun and dark at the same time. The film has a great look to it and is full of action. The film has a great cast with Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, Christopher Walken, Jeffrey Jones and Miranda Richardson. A film well worth watching. |
|
| 47 |
Army of Darkness (1993, R)
I have never seen any of the Evil Dead films but I thought this film was great. A fun campy fantasy/horror film. Bruce Campbell is very funny in this. The film never takes its self to serious. Director Sam Raimi does a great job making this a fun fantasy/horror to watch. You don't need to see the Evil Dead films to still enjoy this. The F/X are quite good in this and the film has tons of action and battle scenes. A fun watch. |
|
| 48 |
Highlander: The Source (2007, R)
As a fan of the other Highlander films and the television show I enjoy this. The story is about a group of Highlanders who are looking for something called the source. Thhis source will explain why they are immortal and give great power. But this source is protected by a very powerful immortal who is hunting them down. The story is decent and the acting as well. Some of the action sequences could have been much better. The F/X was also okay. Great to have Adrian Paul, Jim Byrnes and Peter Wingfield bak to make a Highlander film. I always liked the Duncan Macleod character. Now if your not a fan of the Highlander series then this film may confuse you with the story. But if your a fan of the Highlander films then give this a chance. |
|
| 49 |
The Others (2001, PG-13)
This is a great supernatural thriller. The film is about a young women and her two children waiting at their home for her husband to return home from the war. During that time they learn that the house is haunted. Or is it? The film has one of the best endings. I should have seen it coming but I didn't. Nicole Kidman is excellent in her role as the mother. The film is dark and spooky. Great look to the film. Reminds me of a Hitchcock type of film. Well worth checking out. |
|
| 50 |
White Noise (2005, PG-13)
White Noise turned out to be a good film. I wouldn't say this is a horror movie. More of a supernatural thriller. Overall I think it did a good job. The story takes the EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) and shows the dangers of it. You never know what you are letting out each time you try and communicate with the dead. I found the film did a good job to keep you creeped out just enough. You don't have to see a monster or gore to make a good scary film. Just knowing that something like this might actually happen is scary enough. Michael Keaton does a good job in his role. Overall I found this to be a good film. |

=) Nothing tops lord of the rings. Eternally grateful to Peter Jackson
