Mona Lisa Smile (2003,  PG-13)
Mona Lisa Smile
I have avoided watching this movie for years certain i was not going to enjoy it so when i did watch it today it was a pleasant surprise.

Good acting by most of the cast,Maggie Gyllenhaals acting stood out above everyone elses though, she was superb portraying Giselle the femme fatale. I also liked Julia Roberts more in this movie,i like it when she plays characters with more depth than she plays in the rom coms. The costumes were great and authentic and the campus looked beautiful.

The Safety of Objects (2001,  R)
The Safety of Objects
I knew nothing about this movie before i watched it today,i had no idea of the storyline or even who was in it. I just randomly recorded it and it turned out to be one of the best movies i have watched so far this year.

Without giving too much away The Safety of Objects is about four families in surburbia. There are many main characters and whats great is that they are all really interesting. Excellent cast, excellent story, excellently all mixed together. Not to be missed.

Closer (2004,  R)
Closer
Wow what a great movie. I loved the two female lead characters Alice and Anna. I loved both the opening and closing scenes where Natalie Portman was walking amongst the busy crowds of London and New York. Great cast, great storyline, great movie.

This Boy's Life (1993,  R)

She Creature (2001,  R)
She Creature
She Creature was surprisingly a delight to watch. She Creature begins in Ireland with two lovers (Angus played by Rufus Sewell and Lillie played by Carla Gugino) who run a freak circus with fake freaks,Lillie is the fake mermaid in the show. One night they meet an old man who takes them to his gothic mansion (which was to die for ) where he shows them a real mermaid and warns them about how dangerous she is in the hope that this will put them off ever trying to catch a real mermain. However Angus sees dollar signs in his eyes so during the night he goes back to the gothic mansion and steals the mermaid,he decides to take the mermaid to America so earn a small fortune. The rest of the movie takes place on the boat where the mermaid shows her true colours.

The story is very totally original and very compelling plus the visuals are great. Allegedly this movie was shot in 18 days and was filmed on a very low budget but it does not show. The period costumes were stunning and the settings were very good. The whole movie reminded me of the old Hammer House of Horror movies and it had some very nice old school horror touches. It was very much like a good vampire flick but with mermaids.

Carla Gugino is the main star of this movie, she is incredibly beautiful and also her character Lillie is very sexy in a not so obvious way.

A must see for fans of elegant gothic horror flicks.

Dan in Real Life (2007,  PG-13)
Dan in Real Life
Well i had no idea what this movie was about and i hate Steve Carrell movies so i was not expecting much but i loved this movie,it was fabulous and fun. Very realistic, the humour is very down to earth. I laughed out loud so many times which is rare for me. The teenage daughter who was in love was spot on to how dramatic teenage girls can be. The family is great,i would love to spend a weekend with them.

This is what a romantic movie should be like instead of the usual soppy crap like Sleepless in Seattle or You've Got Mail. And to think i had this rated as Not Interested.

Wow i loved it. It was beautiful and stunning to watch. It made me feel very emotional, the bond between Drover,Sarah and Nullah was lovely to watch. The story was brilliant, the main characters were likeable and the baddies were very unlikeable, infact they were vile. I also loved all The Wizard of Oz touches. Easily one of the best movies i have seen so far this year.

Wow wow wow. This movie was amazing!

I am on a natural high from the excitement of watching it. One of the most entertaining movies i have seen in a long time, visually beautiful and stunning. The music was awesome and the costumes were to die for. The lead character Shiloh was adorable and Sarah Brightman was a gothic babe. Oh and do not forget the Graverobber,he was very easy on the eyes,a new Gothic heart throb for me to lust over. Loved the songs, loved the set. This movie was creative, arty and vibrant. I loved it. Wicked gothic fun.

Odd Girl Out (2005,  PG)
Odd Girl Out
I hate bullies!

Odd Girl Out is the story of Vanessa whose so-called best friends turn on her and make her life a living hell. This movie shows teenage girls just how quickly your friends can turn on you if they get jealous or if the boy they fancy fancies you.

I used to be a teenage girl (lol obviously because i am now female and 32),i have a 15 year old daughter and i have previously worked in schools and i found Odd Girl Out to be one of the most realistic movies i have ever seen and to anyone who found this movie OTT or unrealistic then thats great because it means you have never been bullied or humiliated in the way that Vanessa the lead character in this movie was.

The acting was superb, each actor played their character well and the movie gets your emotions going,i felt sad, sympathetic, angry and glad whilst watching it and many other emotions that many other dramatic movies fail to stir up in me. The bullies/bitches in this movie were utterly vile, disgusting horrible pathetic gutless creatures.

For fans of Speak.

Made of Honor (2008,  PG-13)
Made of Honor
I had this rated this movie "NOT INTERESTED" but i watched it because it was on Sky Movies and i was out of rentals to watch. The trailers i had seen for this movie did not look promising but i have to admit i really really enjoyed it. I am not a big rom-com fan but this one managed to impress me. Okay so we have seen the plot many times before but who cares? Not me.

The Life Before Her Eyes (2007,  R)
The Life Before Her Eyes
Wow i really enjoyed this! Great performances from Evan and Uma. It made me very weepy, the shooting scenes gave me chills down my back, they were done very realistically.

I dont want to give too much away but the only thing that ruined this movie for me was that i worked the movie out after about 15 minutes,my husband didnt though he was totally surprised by the ending.

Passengers (2008,  PG-13)
Passengers
Recommended by DrLappos.

Passengers is a good movie with a good cast,i love Dianne Wiest but i wasnt sure what i was watching.....was it supernatural or a drama or a thriller? When things started to become clear i cried.....quite a bit. It was very sad and lovely.

Hard to write a review without giving anything away so i will keep it brief. I enjoyed it but it wasnt brilliant, the effects were good and the acting was okay. Sadly the ending was disappointing/slightly odd.

The Secret of Moonacre
Recommended by Clemontine and DrLappos.

The Secret of Moonacre was visually stunning and beautiful, the scenery was to die for! It was magical and gorgeous, one of the most amazing movies i have seen in a long time. The costumes were amazing, the house was my dream home and the characters were colourful and interesting. I loved the story and i loved how it ended....happily ever after. I want to live in Moonacre. Oh i loved the animals too....lets face it i loved it all, this was my kind of movie.

Dustbin Baby (2008,  PG)
Dustbin Baby
Dustbin Baby is the story of April. April is a foundling, she was abandoned at birth and left in a dustbin like a piece of trash. The story starts on the morning of Aprils 14th birthday and April is living with yet another foster parent this one called Marion. After the two have a terrible row April leaves for school but decides to bunk off and goes in search of her past and her biological mother.

This is a really good movie. The characters are all brilliant and the names are fantastic. Jacqueline Wilson is an amazing writer. Its a great story full of imagination and emotion. A must see.

The Duchess (2008,  PG-13)
The Duchess
Recommended by ascmoviegirl6 and JDFortuneFan.

"I do not doubt it; he is a dreamer like yourself. You both dream of another world that does not exist, and never will."

The Duchess is one of the best period dramas i have ever seen. The characters and storyline are both very interesting and the costumes are to die for. The love story between G and Charles Grey was real and heartbreaking, whilst the relationship between G and her husband The Duke of Devonshire is cruel and twisted.

The Duchess was a pleasure to watch - the wealth, the locations, the gowns and the acting was great, the only bad thing about this movie was it made me cry and cry and cry. When it ended i felt very emotional and just sat there weeping.

Nights in Rodanthe (2008,  PG-13)
Nights in Rodanthe
Nights In Rodanthe was a lovely chilled out relaxing movie. Nice to watch whilst snuggled up on the sofa on a dark Autumn night. The inn is charming and quaint,i wouldnt mind spending a few nights there myself with some good food and a bottle of wine. Its based on a book by Nicolas Sparkes so you know what to expect and yes i did cry,not buckets but i did shed a few tears.
