This movie hits pretty close to home and it's a switch because people usually aren't too interested about what happens in central NY. Ha, oh well. I loved this movie mostly because Eliza Dushku played the main character but I just thought it was an overall great film.

I just fell in love with this movie again. :) It used to be one of my favorites when I was very young. Wonderful movie with a great message. It's awesome that Cheech and Chong have little parts in it, haha. I didn't realize that til after. Anywho, I enjoyed seeing it again after all these years and... go treehuggers! ^-^

19
The Girl Next Door (2007,  R)
The Girl Next Door
Brutal, sickening, eye-opening. With that said, this movie is definitely not for everyone; actually I don't think it's for many people. This film will stick with you for days. What this poor girl went through was horrendous. But they couldn't have picked a better cast to play these parts. It was all totally believable.

Rest In Peace, Sylvia Likens.

The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King (2003,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King
Gandalf: "So it begins, the great battle of our time."

Eowyn: "The city has fallen silent. There is no warmth left in the sun."
Faramir: "It is only the damp of the first spring rain."
Faramir: "I do not believe this darkness will endure."

Gandalf: "I will not say, Do not weep, for not all tears are an evil."

Aragorn: "My friends. You bow to no-one."

Pippin: "I didn't think it would end this way."
Gandalf: "End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path... One that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass... And then you see it."
Pippin: "What? Gandalf?... See what?"
Gandalf: "White shores... and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise."
Pippin: "Well, that isn't so bad."
Gandalf: "No... No it isn't."

Lost and Delirious (2001,  R)
Lost and Delirious
Wowza. This movie was so amazing! Piper Perabo's performance blew me away.
34
Martyrs (2008,  R)
Martyrs
Okay, I will start off by saying, what the hell did I just watch?! WOW. If I could rate this movie more than 5 stars I would. This French film was terrifying. The raw brutality and cruelty is sickening. Martyrs did remind me of Jack Ketchum's The Girl Next Door though because of the unflinching torture and abuse. What's even scarier is the fact that what is going on in this movie could be happening anywhere. The ending was a total jaw-dropper. You get hooked on the movie right from the beginning and it will stick with you long after it's finished. As you can probably tell, Martyrs isn't for everyone. But if you wanna see some messed-up stuff, then by all means, check it out.

Maybe I'll Come Home in the Spring (1970,  Unrated)
Maybe I'll Come Home in the Spring
Wonderful movie about a girl named Dennie (Sally Field) who lives with a bunch of hippies for a year and then returns home to her conservative parents. But her little sister, Susan, wants to follow in her footsteps and feel the freedoms her sister felt. Ultimately, this movie was great at giving the audience little glimpses into her hippie lifestyle by jumping back and forth through scenes. Sally Field did a good job playing her character and made it all pretty believable. This was definitely an enjoyable and worthwhile movie. Even though there's not all these different things going on, it still makes for an interesting look inside a family that doesn't quite see eye-to-eye.

Memoirs of a Geisha (2005,  PG-13)

Nobel Son (2008,  R)
Nobel Son
So, pretty much the only reason why I checked out this movie was to see Eliza Dushku (<3) and I was pleasantly surprised at how awesome it was. The twist and turns kept you guessing and on the edge of your seat for the duration of the movie. The score was so upbeat and energizing and made you enjoy it even more. The whole cast was great and made this a very entertaining and hilarious watch. Highly recommended.
40
Nowhere (1997,  R)
Nowhere
Very strange... just how I like it.

This is a movie that you either love or hate. The ending is just o_0. Like someone else said, don't think about it too much, just watch.
41
On the Doll (2007,  Unrated)
On the Doll
To describe this movie in one word would have to be: intense. On The Doll is definitely not for everyone and I think you just need to keep an open mind when you watch this because it is different. All in all, I really enjoyed it.
42
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) (2006,  R)
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth)
It's not often that I rate movies a whopping 5 stars, but this one deserves it, in my honest opinion. The whole storyline was brilliant. The graphics were stunning. It truly feels like you were transported to another world. It was a great escape. Some people might be put off because it's in Spanish, but believe me, it's well worth it.
43
Pizza (2005,  PG-13)
Pizza
"I think I would enjoy being an alcoholic! Very much so. A drinker and a libertine. Never in a relationship, but always in love. At church, they'd call me a whore. But I would fancy myself a spirited individual of grand appetites featuring roast duck, red wine, and well-shaped men."

Cara is a lonely, unusual (and overweight) girl who on her 18th birthday, meets the pizza boy and he then takes her along delivering pizzas. They have quite an interesting night together and at the end, they learn a thing or two about themselves. So I guess you would call this a coming-of-age film, although I hate that term. :P

This was one cool indie film! The quirkiness of it was so entertaining. Very original, oddball movie. And Cara was hilarious! I loved her character. She was sassy, free-spirited and also pretty sure of herself. The whole concept of the movie isn't much but it turns out to be very rewarding and touching. I wish there were more movies like this that has a simple plot but then magnetizes it so it isn't boring. And it's also refreshing to have a movie centered around an overweight girl who is really strong-willed (despite being pretty much friendless and getting picked on).

I recommend this one. :)

Quarantine (2008,  R)

49
The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008,  PG)
The Spiderwick Chronicles
I am such a fan of movies that have to do with magical worlds, especially ones with faeries in them. :] This movie allowed me to escape this blah place for a while and that always makes me happy. I don't think I'll ever outgrow these types of movies. <3

Straightheads (Closure) (2007,  R)
Straightheads (Closure)
This was pretty brutal at times and initially, I wouldn't have expected that. Well-acted. For some reason, this movie resonates well with me. No mercy for sexual offenders.
51
Teeth (2007,  R)
Teeth
This movie was crazy! But that's why I liked it. The female empowerment was there and that's awesome.

The Tracey Fragments (2007,  R)
The Tracey Fragments
I LOVED THIS MOVIE. It was unlike anything I've ever seen before. It's totally original in every way and Ellen Page gets more praises from me. Wonderful actress. I was so surprised at how this film was played out. If you're into off-beat and artsy films, then this is one to see.

White Oleander
AMAZING film. The actresses were brilliant. I loved it.
56
Commune (2005,  Unrated)
Commune
Peace and Love are Only Half the Story

This was so informative and interesting (well, of course it was to me as I am into anything that has to do with the '60s & '70s. :P) This documentary was great because it had in-depth interviews with a lot of the people that lived at the Black Bear Ranch. What's even cooler is that the actor Peter Coyote grew up there and he talked a lot about how it was.
Ah, the beautiful people just enjoying each other. :) That's what it's all about. It was very refreshing. I can totally picture myself living that way, or at least trying it out. I don't (yet) believe this world is so far gone that we can't have a place where people can live happily and free with one another. People, especially the ones my age, may think the '60s where so long ago, but I think the opposite. There's so much to be learned from the past generations and I plan to keep the hippie spirit alive. It's not long ago when you really think about it, humans are humans, no matter if it was 50 or 500 years ago.

This movie demonstrates the positive and negative aspects of living at the commune. It has some awesome footage too. I recommend this to anyone who is curious about what living in a commune is like, especially one of the first seemingly successful ones.

*Peace...

Coraline (2009,  PG)
Coraline
You probably think this world is a dream come true... but you're wrong.

This movie is truly amazing and stunning. Coraline is the perfect movie for your imagination and it captivates you from the beginning. It takes you for a ride into a beautiful but strange world. I'm so pleased to see a movie that is genuinely a work of art. I believe this is a movie for all ages because it's so entertaining. Stop-motion animation films are incredible. Coraline is definitely one of my favorites. :)

Be careful what you wish for...

Monterey Pop (1969,  Unrated)
Monterey Pop
Beautiful.

Original.

Happiness.

Electrifying.

Marvelous.

Freedom.

Love.
59
Phoebe in Wonderland (2009,  PG-13)
Phoebe in Wonderland
"At a certain part in your life. Probably when too much of it has gone by. You will open your eyes and see yourself for who you are. Especially for everything that made you so different from all the awful normals. And you will say to yourself, "But I am this person." And in that statement, that correction, there will be a kind of love."

Finally! A movie that's the complete package (for me at least)! This was certainly the best magical movie that's come out in a long time, and most importantly, young girls should watch it because it gives hope and reassurance at the end. Elle Fanning was marvelous and absolutely adorable. It looks like she will have a promising career ahead of her and I can't wait to see what other movies she'll be in. I was not expecting her to play a part that was so real and she executed it perfectly. This movie was the epitome of innocence and imagination. I can't say enough good things about it. Lovely and refreshing.

A favorite, no doubt.
Highly recommended. :)

Låt den Rätte Komma In (Let the Right One in) (2008,  R)
Låt den Rätte Komma In (Let the Right One in)
Let the Right One In could very well be the best vampire movie ever, not because it was scary (it really wasn't) but because of the eerie atmosphere and the relationship between the two main characters. Everything seemed to move at a slow and steady pace and that was nice. The friendship between Eli and Oskar was wonderful and the ending's amazing; it really pulls it all together. The two young actors were astounding. I was expecting there to be a ton of gore but I was glad there wasn't because I enjoyed the movie so much.

Beautiful film.
Recommended.

Le Renard et l'enfant (The Fox & the Child) (2007,  G)
Le Renard et l'enfant (The Fox & the Child)
Free, heart-warming, and magical.
I cannot get over how absolutely stunning all of the locations are for this movie. It's so mesmerizing and calming. But the story was adorable and I just loved it. Kids would adore this movie, I'm sure. Some said it was a cross between a nature documentary and a fairy tale and I would say that's exactly how it is. It gave me such a nice feeling after watching it and you can't go wrong with that. :) And it being narrated by Kate Winslet was pretty cool too.

Lovely movie.
62
Once Were Warriors (1994,  R)
Once Were Warriors

Okay, so I was not prepared for the certain situations that occurred in this movie. It was intense, brutal and it really affected me. I'm glad I saw it but then again I'm not so sure because it has sensitive subjects and everything came across as all too real. I can honestly say that Once Were Warriors is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I was glued to the screen from the beginning. All of the actors and actresses were spot-on and I give them a lot of credit. Man, when the climax of the movie was happening, that really messed me up. :-/ As you can tell, this is not a feel-good movie by any means, nor does it have much of a happy ending. But I was content with the ending, they did a good job with that. New Zealanders really know how to make a powerful movie that will stick with you long after the credits roll. If a movie can get under your skin that much, you know it's something special.
63
The Company of Wolves (1984,  R)
The Company of Wolves
Where fairy stories meet horror stories.

Oh my goodness. How come I never checked out this movie before?! Shame on me. Anyways, I thought this was an amazing movie. Almost everything about this film I loved. The setting was exquisite; forest scenes are my favorite. There was so much to this movie; the fantasy, innocence, creepiness and other-worldliness painted an enchanting portrait. The ending was a little predictable but it was cool nonetheless. Great little movie.
I recommend this to anyone who likes the dark side of fairy tales.
64
The Mermaid (Rusalka) (2008,  Unrated)
The Mermaid (Rusalka)

Oh my goodness. I can't believe what I just watched. I don't think any other foreign film touched my heart the way this one did. I don't even know where to begin. First of all, the main character, Alice, was wonderful. She's magical, full of life and wonder, and imagination. There are so many good things about this movie. Some compare it to Amelie, and I can see how, but this movie really is in a category all its own. You feel for Alice because her life isn't all that great, but she ultimately comes into her own and knows what she was meant to do in her life. The surrealistic quality of this film shows beautifully, especially the scenes on the beach. The ending completely blew my mind, but, in retrospect, I couldn't see it end any other way.

Movies like this really don't come around very often and it was an amazing experience watching it. Highly recommended.
65
Ink (2009,  Unrated)
Ink

SEE THIS MOVIE. Seriously. I recommend this to everyone. This is a special film that is full of darkness and light, hope and despair. The concept is amazingly original and it's truly like a breath of fresh air. It's a poetic journey that winds its way through a different world, a world that comes alive when we are asleep. I would say it's a cross between a fantasy, psychological thriller and sci-fi film. The characters we meet along the way are awesome and unique as well. But, it ultimately comes down to the meaning of the film, which is one many people can relate to. Ink was astounding and is a force to be reckoned with. It proved to be a wonderful movie experience. I believe if you enjoyed Pan's Labyrinth, you'll love this one.
66
Manic (2002,  R)
Manic
Chad: "I'd rather feel like total shit sometimes, and God the rest of the time, than just like - ok all the time, you know? Fuck mediocrity."

Great movie. It truly showed what it would be like to live in an institution for troubled teens. It was serious and didn't sugar-coat anything. That's what I liked most about the film. I think everyone did a wonderful job with their performances; and you can feel for each of them and wish you could help them. (At least I did.) But, the ending worked out really well and, in retrospect, it was the best way to end the movie. Recommended.
