Death Wish 3 (1985, R)
The most obscenely ridiculous movie I've ever seen. A movie so bad, it transcends all badness to become into a highly entertaining and quotable flick. Charles Bronson plays Paul Kersey for a third time, and on this occasion he takes on an entire army of hoodlums. To see a 60-year-old jog and accurately shoot up the scum, while nobody hits him, is a delight. Martin Balsam is in it and he is hilarious, especially after what happens to HIS SHOP! This movie also contains some of the most awkward dialog in the history of film. Bronson's badly-executed romance with a public defender provides plenty of laughs. When she is killed (something everyone should have seen coming, since Paul Kersey is a bad luck charm for anyone he crosses paths with) he just shrugs and walks off. There's plenty of hilarious line ("I'm sorry but Mrs. Rodriguez expired." "But when I called they told me she just had a broken arm!") as well as some amazing stretches in real world physics (the firing of a rocket launcher inside a small apartment that doesn't harm anyone but the target comes to mind)This movie is a lot of fun to watch and to mock with a group of friends on repeated viewings. |
