Watchmen (2009,  R)
Watchmen
**Update: watched three hour plus Director's Cut and it was bloody good but I did not like it quite as much as the theatrical version.

If you are really interested to know the differences and don't mind the spoilers, check out http://film-book.com/watchmen-directors-cut-differences-from-theatrical-version/

Jackie Earle Haley & Malin Akerman !!!

I am NOT a Watchmen fanboy. I did NOT read the graphic novels or anything.

But this movie kicks ass. It is beautiful. 300 meets Superheros. Very well done I thought.

I really liked the subtle background humor and big 80's soundtrack

Inglourious Basterds (2009,  R)
Inglourious Basterds
Better than I thought it would be, not as gory, more suspenseful. I knew I would lmao and I did!! For me it was consistent through-out and that is what I liked the most. Excellent start to finish. I am a fan of Tarantino but usually only like 2/3 of his movies that I have seen (not many) but this was all good. Christoph Waltz and Brad Pitt are fantastic. Shosanna Dreyfus and Diane Kruger are good, my only complaint is maybe they got cut out a little(?) and I wanted to see more of them, but am willing not to be bummed about that because the pace, mood and tone flowed good. My favorite Tarantino movie.

Antichrist (2009,  Unrated)
Antichrist
IN-freaking-CREDIBLE!!! wow, a masterpiece. Very beautiful visually and shocking.

Filmed and shot beautifully, amazing, exquisite, especially the prologue. The only other prologue that has ever had such an effect me like this is LOR The Fellowship of the Ring.

It is sad, tragic, grotesque, horrific, intense, weird, psychotic and amazing; a "theological-psychological horror opus".

Lars von Trier!!!!! wow!! I still want to see Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark, & The Five Obstructions. I did not like Dogville but can kind of respect what he was doing. It just wasn't for me. If I saw it live, maybe. The Idiots was certainly different enough for me.

I think this is the opportunity of a lifetime for any actress and Charlotte Gainsbourg (21 Grams) scored big time. I was first turned onto her in The Science of Sleep which I enjoyed. I want to scour through her back catalog and see if there are more gems hiding in there.

Willem Dafoe is very, very good. The main thing I like about him in this is his consistency.

For me, this goes into the highly uncomfortable realm of torture porn but in a story and trippy way that really sets it aside from the whole genre. And it is not until the end. Similar to Let The Right One In.

The Hangover (2009,  R)
The Hangover
Update: Laughed more the second viewing, even though I laughed harder the first time. Good stuff. I'm glad they are working on another.

A fun time was had by all. Not as raunchy as I expected (grain of salt with that statement: p******* during cr**** excluded), but overall it was more than I expected and those moments were priceless for me.

Much LOL and clapping, slapping of knee, hooting, cheering, etc.

There where times I LOL so hard it hurt because they would not let up and I could not take a breath! Best comedy imo since Superbad.

Fantastic cast!!!! Great direction and script!! Soundtrack had me! Damn they played The Donnas "Take It Off" on the way to Vegas! Woot!! Thanks to Heather Graham as Jade! I'm so happy to see B.C. blowin up cause I've enjoyed watching him since Alias. I liked Mike Tyson too :) Had a blast.

Star Trek (2009,  PG-13)
Star Trek
Great Star Trek movie! It really messed with my mind. I loved the casting, approach to cinematography and lighting (be prepared for something different!! I was glad that I had a heads up on the halation effects. At times the theater looked like a disco. Lol.)

Leonard Nimoy's first live-action film role since Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991).

Majel Barrett, the wife of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry, has a role in this film as the voice of the Enterprise computer. She completed filming two weeks before her death on December 18 2008.

Thanks Brad!!!!

(500) Days of Summer (2009,  PG-13)
(500) Days of Summer
Great! I really liked it! Zooey was perfect for the role. Loved Joseph Gordon-Levitt's smushed up smiley face and body language. Loved the soundtrack. An instant classic for me. 2 thumbs way up

Look forward to more of Minka Kelly in The Roommate (2010)

The Maiden Heist (2009,  PG-13)
The Maiden Heist
Christopher Walken, Marcia Gay Harden, Morgan Freeman, William H. Macy. 2nd funniest movie of the year, recommend, I laughed a lot. Walken, Harden, Freeman and Macy are great! Some ppl complained about the simplicity and predictability of a "heist" movie but it is not a standard action or who dun-it robbery/heist movie. It is a gentle paced, beautifully acted, hysterical dramady.

The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009,  R)
The Private Lives of Pippa Lee
Great big wonderful cast spanning the life of Pippa (Robin Wright Penn, Blake Lively, et. al.)

Alan Arkin is wonderful as Herb Lee.

Maria Bello is awesome as Pippa's mom.

Keanu Reeves is right on.

Brief but good appearances by Mike Binder (writer/director), Winona Ryder, Julianne Moore, Monica Bellucci, and many more.

For me a very smart, very funny, dramatic life story. Very well made with flashbacks to Pippa's birth, adolescence, and young adulthood. I enjoyed it a lot and recommend it.

Food, Inc. (2009,  PG)
Food, Inc.
I was Not Interested but ended up watching and 'enjoying' it very much.

Wal-Mart and Organic foods.

All animals being fed Corn and the nasty effects including E. coli

Corn in everything (Corn Syrup or variants) we eat.

Subsidies!!!!

The changes in our food the last 50 years

The connections of major players in the Food biz to government so-called watchdogs and regulatory institutions.

And the copyright bs of GMO

Bakjwi (Thirst) (2009,  R)
Bakjwi (Thirst)
My first South Korean Chan-wook Park film!! Chan-wook Park wrote and directed. I enjoyed Kang-ho Song and co-star Ok-vin Kim very much. For me it is a classic along with last year's Let the Right One In.
