Audition (Ôdishon) (1999,  R)
Audition (Ôdishon) 4.0 Stars
WOW! After an extremely slow-paced beginning, this movie has one of the best payoffs ever. The final torture scene has to be seen to be believed. Very well-done indeed. I don't think this was particularly scary or creepy, but it certainly has one hell of an impact. Beware of crazy women!

The Blair Witch Project (1999,  R)
The Blair Witch Project 4.0 Stars
This movie gets trashed a lot on Flixster, but I think this was a good one. It really creates a genuine sense of terror and suspense for the audience. My only problem was the ending - I needed a little bit more to satisfy me. The sequel for this should be shitcanned.

I like this one. It's certainly original, and I didn't mind J-Lo in this one.

The Clown Murders (1976,  R)
The Clown Murders 2.0 Stars
It's very strange seeing John Candy in a movie like this. It comes across as a horror movie, but ends up being more of a psychological thriller (albeit not a very good one). In fact, the clown "murders" don't even take place until the last ten minutes - at least they were fairly well done. Otherwise, this is mostly a waste of time.

The Dark Hours (Head Games) (2005,  R)
The Dark Hours (Head Games) 4.0 Stars
This one was pretty good. A good plot, some good performances, some brutal violence, and a kinky love triangle. I thought this was really well-done and was quite unnerving. My only problem was the ending - it leaves you scratching your head about what you just saw. At least it was original.

Frailty (2002,  R)
Frailty 5.0 Stars
This movie is an often overlooked gem. I think this might be the best horror movie ever made. It actually gave me the creeps while I watched it (and NO movies do that!). It is very suspenseful, very well-acted, and it hits you with a number of twists at the end that really catch you off-guard. I couldn't recommend it more.

From Hell (2001,  R)
From Hell 4.5 Stars
Excellent tale about the search for Jack the Ripper. I loved the way that this movie even tries to explain and identify the Ripper. Maybe this story is true, who knows.

Hannibal (2001,  R)
Hannibal 3.5 Stars
Certainly entertaining at times, and often gruesome. This just doesn't compare to "Silence of the Lambs".

Hannibal Rising (2007,  R)
Hannibal Rising 4.0 Stars
Considering how many movies have been made in the "Hannibal" franchise, I thought this held up very well. All of the performances were excellent, and the settings and scenery were gorgeous. How can you not like a movie where the deranged sociopath is the hero, and a much better person than those he kills?

Insomnia (2002,  R)
Insomnia 2.0 Stars
This movie's title is so ironic - I can never stay awake through the whole thing! It's actually not bad - Pacino and Williams are awesome - but it's so slow that it puts me to sleep every time.

Manhunter (1986,  R)
Manhunter 3.5 Stars
Very effective thriller, but a little too 'stylish' from Michael Mann. It's a decent movie though, and I thought it was much better than the "Red Dragon" movie that came later.

Schlocky gothic melodrama about torture and deceit. A fairly average effort.

Robin Williams plays a really creepy psychopath in this one! I always knew he had it in him and he doesn't disappoint. Beware of photo labs!

Not a badly done thriller. Thank you, Mr. Craven for NOT giving us another piece of crap like "Cursed". And Rachel McAdams is hawt!

Secret Window 2.5 Stars
Not a bad little thriller, but it has one of those twist endings that make the re-watchability factor of this movie absolutely nil.

The Silence of the Lambs 4.5 Stars
Definitely the best of the Hannibal Lecter films. Hopkins deserved the Oscar that he won for this one. Very suspenseful and well worth watching all over again.

What a great pantload of steaming crap. This is supposed to be a supernatural thriller, but it is just a boring, confusing mess with a stupid twist ending. Avoid this one.
