30 Days of Night (2007,  R)
30 Days of Night 4.5 Stars
I thought this was fantastic! Finally, an original vampire film chock full of surprisingly well-done gore scenes. My expectations were not high on this one, and I got a very pleasant surprise. This is great!

Ooooh . . . file this one in your crappy movies category. Terrible movie which has only one redeeming quality - we get to see Kristanna Loken's boobs! Yay!

Come on Wes Craven, I expect better than this from you! A bunch of big names and a big budget couldn't save the stupid plot that fuels this piece of shit.

Not a bad Dracula flick. Very interesting take on the origin of Dracula in this one as well.

Pretty decent modern vampire film. Not outstanding, but certainly worth a look.

Awesome, Canadian made Werewolf film! Very entertaining and funny at times. Very ingenious, comparing the "curse" of female puberty to the "curse" of the werewolf.

Ginger Snaps 2 - Unleashed 3.0 Stars
Not such a great sequel. this one just doesn't live up to the quirky horror of the original. Plus, the ending kind of sucked.

A really bad prequel to a great movie. I'm not sure what the filmmakers were trying to accomplish with this one.

I Am Legend (2007,  PG-13)
I Am Legend 3.0 Stars
This wasn't bad, but Vincent Price's "Last Man on Earth" told this story much better. The two survivors who find Will Smith come into the story far too late for us to get to know them or care about them. I do give this three stars for the very touching story of Will and his dog - the ending to that part of the story was very heart-wrenching.

Innocent Blood (1992,  R)

This movie probably would not be as good if not for Robert Loggia. He steals every scene as the vampire Mafia boss. He is an absolute riot in this one!

The Last Man on Earth (1964,  Unrated)
The Last Man on Earth 4.0 Stars
I think this is one of Vincent Price's best works. The story is actually similar to "28 Days Later", but instead of zombies, Price is trying to avoid the vampires who have taken over the Earth. Recently remade as "I Am Legend" with Will Smith.

The Lost Boys (1987,  R)
The Lost Boys 3.5 Stars
This one is always good for a laugh, despite the fact that the "two Coreys" are in it. Kiefer Sutherland plays an effectively creepy vampire in this too.

Malenka (Fangs of the Living Dead) (2004,  PG)
Malenka (Fangs of the Living Dead) 3.5 Stars
This is pretty standard gothic vampire fare, but it stars some of the most gorgeous women I have ever seen! I don't care if they are vampires, I would gladly let them gnaw on me!

Night Shadow (1989,  Unrated)
Night Shadow 2.5 Stars
A very mediocre werewolf film, with nothing original to offer the audience. It's biggest plus is seeing a young Kato Kaelin get killed! Two stars just for that alone!

The Satanic Rites of Dracula (1974,  R)
The Satanic Rites of Dracula 2.0 Stars
Christopher Lee's last outing as the famous bloodsucker turns out to be one boring piece of crap. Some stupid plot about how Drac plans to release a new plague on the world. Don't bother watching this one.

Shadow of the Vampire (2000,  R)

Very offbeat and funny look at the horror film industry back in the silent film days. I was amazed at how faithfully the filmmakers recreated the sets and atmosphere of the original "Nosferatu". Not really scary, but definitely entertaining.

Tales from the Crypt Presents: Bordello of Blood 4.5 Stars
This movie is fantastic! A pretty decent vampire flick played for laughs. I have never seen Dennis Miller any funnier than he is in this movie. It's just hysterical to see him running around with a super-soaker full of holy water to blast the vamps with. Brilliant!

Underworld (2003,  R)
Underworld 4.0 Stars
I really enjoy this movie. I don't know that it can really be called a horror movie, as it really belongs in the action category. I love the story of a centuries-old war between vampires and werewolves. Very cool!

More stylish and sexy werewolf vs. vampire mayhem. Lots of fun and Kate Beckinsale is superhot! This picks up exactly where the first one left off, actually making a logical sequel for a change.

Van Helsing (2004,  PG-13)
Van Helsing 2.0 Stars
How could a movie that looked so promising, be so crappy? This should have had everything - handsome hero, gorgeous leading lady, great sets, classic monsters - but the whole thing just falls flat. Definitely a case of style trying to overcome substance, and failing miserably.
