Titanic (1997,  PG-13)
Titanic 5.0 Stars
When people ask me what is the greatest film I have ever seen, I am the first to reply that Titanic takes that honor.

This is not an opinion based statement, this is the mere truth. No other motion picture has even graced the mastery or quite simply put, beautiful film.

It is all around terrific. Titanic is not only heartbreaking, but leaves the viewer crying nothing short of weeks afterward.

James Cameron is an icon of all living directors, and shows what one can do with an enormous amount of ambition. He doesn't only take viewers to Titanic's era, but this film offers as a tribute to those who died, and the ship as a whole.

Titanic not only achieves what is impossible by any other film, it sets the standard to such a high level, which will likely never be matched. This picture is mastery at its pinnacle. "My Heart Will Go On" brings tears to faces, and a sense of wonder the the mystery of Titanic's fate.

11 Academy Awards is well deserved, but that is not the only proof of Titanic's greatness. The highest grossing motion picture of all time ensures its fan based structure created by the instant massive cult. Though, recently this has become nearly forgotten in the flock of romantic comedies.

Leonardo DiCaprio is nothing of a teen hearthrob, but rather of a symbol of love that everyone wishes, or has experienced.

And the fact that this has an average 3 star rating on flixster does not prove this review to be false. It simply states that any review in that range, is written by those idiotic, and downwright less mentally fortunate than myself, or any other person who sees the beauty which we are set eyes upon.

This is the greatest film ever made. I will stand by that statement until the end of my existence.

The Edge (1997,  R)
The Edge 5.0 Stars
Plain and simple, this is one of the greatest films I've ever seen. The cinematography in this picture is something a viewer can only dream of seeing. The wilderness, the characters, the conflict, all of it is pitch perfect.

The Edge is a deep, rich character study disguised as an action thriller. I just wish people could see past the average ratings and watch this with an open mind. I am very proud to have this in my collection, and I feel like a better person for having watched it. The Edge impacted me emotionally more than any other film has in years. I have great respect for this movie and I admire the performances more than anything. This is one of my all-time favorites. Remarkable.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997,  R)
I Know What You Did Last Summer 5.0 Stars
Not bad, although far inferior to the book, it's still well filmed and nicely paced. Not to mention a pretty fantastic cast, save for maybe Phillippe who severely overplays it.

Update: Another half star after being severely disappointed by Scream. Kevin Williamson claims the title of writing two of the most popular horror films, and this one is much better. The cast, the filming, and surprisingly, the direction in this film is a level above Scream. Scream may have the wave of fans, but I Know What You Did Last Summer stands on top.

Update Part II:

Screw it, I'm going with the full 5 stars. I know it isn't perfect, but this is The Godfather when lined up with the 3rd movie.

Liar Liar (1997,  PG-13)
Liar Liar 5.0 Stars
I really love Jim Carrey because he's a hilarious actor. This movie had a story that really couldn't happen but it worked in this situation. The first time I saw this I can't tell you how many times I laughed. This is a perfect comedy and is for anyone who needs cheered up.

Donnie Brasco (1997,  R)
Donnie Brasco 5.0 Stars
I heard many varied comments in regards to Donnie Brasco. The majority of them claiming this film to be another interpretation of Goodfellas. Donnie Brasco is not quite in the league of its competitors, however, I don't think it was attempting to be. If viewers are able to concentrate on the sequences of events, they will likely discover that this film is more of a tale on frienship rather than focusing on the mafia hits. Donnie and and Lefty were two very good friends who respected eachother. I had the innermost admiration for the both of them, considering Joe Pistone (a.k.a. Donnie Brasco) was a man risking his life daily. One of the film's strongest sequences occured when Donnie refuses to remove his shoes at a japanese restaurant. The waitor insists, and because of this refusal, his partners beat the waitor to near death. Never before have I seen such loyalty among friends, and this admirable quality is found in the mob. Donnie Brasco is a unique film, not because of the intriguing character development, but in terms of the moral lessons. For the many fans of Johnny Depp rewatching Pirates of the Caribbean, I would give my most sincere recommendation for this film. Fans of his will see his true talent in various roles, and his greatest performance may have been delivered in this film. Donnie Brasco is a near masterpiece that is sure to please everyone long after their first viewing.

As Good As It Gets (1997,  PG-13)
As Good As It Gets 5.0 Stars
I thought that this was a wonderful movie. Jack Nicholson was really good playing an obsessive compulsive person. I think that everybody should get a chance to watch this because it's probably one of my favorites. Very well made.

Grosse Pointe Blank (1997,  R)
Grosse Pointe Blank 5.0 Stars
Who would have thought that killing people for a living would tie into a romantic comedy but somehow it works. John Cusac and Minnie Driver are irresistible in their characters. It is a very good movie that put me in a better mood than before I watched it.

L.A. Confidential (1997,  R)
L.A. Confidential 5.0 Stars
It was very startling to discover many facts about the old Hollywood that many seldom remember. The highlight of L.A. Confidential is to accurately explore the truth of Los Angeles, when at the time, advertisements were displayed to portray it as heaven on Earth. The film itself is worthy to be mentioned in the same sentence as other crime classics, but for a good reason. Though it does not develop the story in a completely understandable fashion. The audiences are always able to predict who is the villain and who is not. For instance, many characters who are portrayed as evil or unlikeable during the opening sequences, are eventually liked as the film continues. L.A. Confidential never tells audiences who is guilty but we all know who should be. There will never be a film such as this that has so profoundly displayed teamwork, betrayal, greed, and conspiracies such as this film. Though not superior to its 1997 competitor Titanic, it is worthy to be mentioned as one of the greatest achievements of that year. The performances are nothing short of stellar from each actor, and you just may find the biggest surprises to come from Crowe and Pearce. Most everyone with exceptional film taste shoud find L.A. Confidential appealing, and it is well worth the watch for those who have yet to see it.

Face/Off (1997,  R)
Face/Off 5.0 Stars
I guess the main reason why I like this movie so much is because of the story. I loved how they found out a way for people to change faces. I thought this movie was actually really funny in a dark sort of way. John Travolta proves once again why he is one of the greatest actors. Nicolas Cage just defines awesome in this. The gunfight at the apartment between Travolta and Cage was awesome. I'm not sure why I like this movie so much but I do. I think that if you take the time to watch it you'll enjoy it too.

Men in Black (1997,  PG-13)
Men in Black 5.0 Stars
I think that this film was unfairly criticized by a lot of people. It wasn't meant to be realistic but just plain entertaining. I didn't try to judge it too much but instead relaxed and allowed myself to be entertained. Men in Black did just that and it was one of the best times that I have had watching a movie. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones were the perfect team. Together they made me laugh non stop. I don't even think that Jones knows he is funny. I thought that the story was original although majorly fictional it is still interesting. I really loved everything about this. From the visuals, action and humor this is one terrific movie.
