Waitress (2007,  PG-13)
Waitress 4.5 Stars
Near perfect. Great acting, great story. Sad, funny, touching, depressing and uplifting... like real life. Highly recommended. One of my top 10 movies of 2007.

Sunshine (2007,  R)
Sunshine 4.5 Stars
On my top 10 list for 2007. Haunting, breathtaking and grippingly dramatic. The film is heavy on the science and open with the metaphysics. There's a fear and an intensity that permeates the film. Read up on it and watch it! A feast for the true Science/fiction fan. It's only superficially like those other "outer space" movies

Atonement (2007,  R)
Atonement 4.5 Stars
Just what I need and want from a period piece drama...lots of doom. Great acting and a perfectly downer ending. Nice cinematography too, every shot was laid out to perfection. Probably more for the women moviegoers but there's enough war to keep the men happy. On my top 10 list for the year.

Bug (2007) (2006,  R)
Bug (2007) 4.5 Stars
Incredible, disturbing and thought provoking. Amazing and riveting performances. Truly engrossing. I will say that it won't be for everyone. Fans of the strange open-ended 70's movies (like me) will eat it up. You'll think about it for days afterward. One of my top 10 movies of 2007

El Orfanato (The Orphanage) (2007,  R)
El Orfanato (The Orphanage) 4.0 Stars
Frightening and thought provoking. Even though Del Toro didn't direct, his touch is all over this film... most notable is the scary scenes and the sadness that closes the film. I recommend this to all horror fans who don't like the typical slasher crap that seems to be so popular... this movie is how scary should be done.

There Will Be Blood (2007,  R)
There Will Be Blood 4.0 Stars
Awesome. One of my Top 10 of 2007. While the score was grating at times, it only added to the dark hidden undercurrents of the characters. Highly recommended, even if you don't care for "westerns".

Margot at the Wedding (2007,  R)
Margot at the Wedding 4.0 Stars
Probably not for everyone but I loved it. In the dark vein of Chuck and Buck, you'll find yourself laughing simply because you're glad it's not you life or family. There isn't much of a beginning or an end but it fits perfectly with a family that is so completely f**ked up that you know they're going to continue on forever with the destructive path in life. The acting is superb and the dark look seems fitting. You'll either like it or hate it. I personally prefer my films on the dark side. On my top 10 list for 2007.

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007,  R)
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead 3.5 Stars
Dark, yet ultimately fascinating. Similar in tone to "Margot at the wedding" yet not at all funny. The film is wonderfully acted with a twisting and twisted disturbing storyline. If you like Lumet you'll probably enjoy being taken down with the cast of characters. The gritty taste of the story and the grimy look of the film will stay with you whether you want it to or not. On my top 10 list for 2007.
