Fargo (1996,  R)
Fargo 4.5 Stars

Fargo is one of the best crime dramas that I have ever seen. This film is absolutely awesome. So awesome I think it should have won Best Picture instead of The English Patient. The acting in this film was absolutely superb particularly from Frances McDormands Oscar winning performance as Officer Marge Gunderson and William H. Macys Oscar nominated performance as car dealer Jerry Lundergaard. Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare were really good as thugs Carl Showalter and Gaear Grimsrud. This film is very similar to No Country For Old Men particularly as far as getting money is concerned and some of the characters are similar. Carl and Gaears characters are similar to Anton Chigurh with the cold blooded character. Jerrys character was really cold aswell after he wanted to have his wife kidnapped and then tries to earn the ransom from his rich father-in-law. The Coen Brothers triumph again just like they did with No Country For Old Men and The Big Lebowski. After watching all three of these films I am a big fan of the Coen Brothers now. This film is so graphic. This is one of the most graphic film noir films I have ever watched. That is another way that this film is so good and that links so well with Joel and Ethan Coen. It was very clever that both of them wrote this film and how they both did two different jobs in this film. Joel was the director and Ethan was the producer. This will be one of greatest crime thrillers of all time for a very long time.

Happy Gilmore (1996,  PG-13)
Happy Gilmore 4.5 Stars
Happy Gilmore is one of the funniest sports films of all time. I think that this is Adam Sandler?s best film. He is brilliant as Happy Gilmore because he is arrogant in a hilarious way. When Happy starts playing golf he acts like an arsehole who hits other people and throwing clubs but when he falls for Public Relations Director Virginia that all changes and he starts to cool down and he starts to become a golf icon and entertainer. It is a bit ridiculous that Happy is getting money for his grandmother?s house by becoming a professional golfer. That is one pathetic thing about the plot apart from that the plot is brilliant. The acting from rest of cast was alright. Carl Weathers was really good as Chubbs Peterson but a better actor could have been in this film. I think Morgan Freeman would have been good in this film. He would have brought some comedy into this film because he is quite a humorous actor himself and I think he would be a good partner in the film with Adam Sandler. Christopher McDonald was good as Shooter McGavin because I think he looks like a really good golfer in real life and he is also arrogant but in a comedy way but nothing like Adam Sandler though. Julie Bowen was ok as Public Relations Director Virginia because she acted a bit ridiculous and she didn?t look that good to her character. Ben Stiller makes an uncredited appearance in this film aswell. He is good in this aswell. One of my favourite comedies and one of favourite sport films of all time. I did prefer sport films like Cinderella Man, Bend It Like Beckham and Raging Bull.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame (,  G)
The Hunchback of Notre Dame 4.5 Stars
Awesome. It is like the Elephant Man and Dumbo. I love the Gargoyles, Quasimodo and Esmeralda. Judge Claude Frollo is a vile Disney villain. I think he is one of the nastiest ones. The OUT THERE song that Quasimodo sings is my favourite song from the film.

The English Patient (1996,  R)
The English Patient 4.5 Stars
Brilliant film. This is a typical romantic film which causes and effects nearly everybody in the whole film. The acting in this film is absolutely superb. The best performance is probably Juliette Binoche. Ralph Fiennes was brilliant in this film but I dont think it was his best performance. I prefered him in Schindlers List and I like him in the Harry Potter films aswell. Kristen Scott-Thomas was awesome aswell in this film. I think it deserved all the Oscars it got except Best Picture unfortunately. I need to watch the other nominees to see whether I think that first. Really well directed by the late Anthony Minghella. R.I.P. Anthony Minghella.

Tin Cup (1996,  R)
Tin Cup 4.0 Stars

Tin Cup is a really good sport comedy drama. This film has a lot of good and some bad qualities aswell. Those good qualities being that Kevin Costner delivers a good performance as Roy McAvoy, the story is beautiful and it is really well written. Kevin Costner delivers a performance that can be remembered but he has done a lot of films where his performances are said to be appauling but I thought his Oscar nominated performance in Dances With Wolves was fantastic. He is said to be good in JFK aswell. The bad qualities in this film were that I thought that the performances from the rest of the cast were very good particularly Rene Russo. As much as I like her, I didn?t think her performance was good at all. There could have been a better actress than her though. This story follows an amateur golfer who narrowly misses out on being a champion once before due his stubborn nature, decides to give professional success one last try. As Roy does this, things affect his game like he starts to fall in love with psychiatrist Dr. Molly Griswold. But it is unfortunate for Roy as she is girlfriend of his golf enemy David Simms who is portrayed by Don Johnson. I thought this story was absolutely brilliant but I don?t think I quite enjoyed this film as much as I did Happy Gilmore. This film is really funny, it is quite a sad dramatic film and a real romantic one aswell. This is one of the funniest sport films of our time.

Trainspotting (1996,  R)
Trainspotting 4.0 Stars
What an absolutely fantastic British film. It is probably one of the best of the British. The screenplay of this film is very well written but for me it was too complex. This is a film based on drug addiction. The main drug in this film is heroin. As heroin is used in this film, a gang of 5 drug dealers use heroin to have sex with women. These guys sort of treat heroin like a person. They say it has a great personality. Like it has a will of its own. This film starts to get really deranging after 45 minutes. There is an obvious lot of drugs involved but there is a lot of foul language but most of all there is a lot of nudity and sexuality. You see naked men and women, Ewan McGregor included. Ewan McGregor makes an excellent film debut has Mark Renton. He uses his Scottish accent which I never heard him use before. I don?t understand why this film is called a black comedy because I don?t find this film funny at all. There is a scene that I thought was pretty damn weird was the toilet scene. I?m not going to go into detail because it will spoil it for you viewers. This film is excellent for people who like Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Requiem For A Dream and This Is England. This isnt the best British film but still a really good enjoyable film.

Mars Attacks! 2.0 Stars
This is Tim Burtons worst film. This is definately a disgrace to the amazing film legacy of the great Tim Burton. A complete disaster. I dont know how anyone can say this film is good. The visual effects were really crap and acting was OK. One really good thing about this film was the amazing music from Danny Elfman once again.
