Charley Varrick (1973,  PG)
Charley Varrick
A really clever plot that puts the viewer in the position of wondering, "What would I do in this situation?" Plenty of backstabbing and twists and turns. A nice example of '70's action film making, unencumbered by formulas and stock conventions.
6
The Conversation (1974,  PG)
The Conversation
A compelling character portrait of a surveillance specialist who goes berserk over his own privacy while invading that of others. After misinterpreting the vocal emphasis on the wrong word in a recording, he involves himself in a case to prevent the inevitable outcome and gets in way over his head. With a young Harrison Ford, Cindy Williams, and Terry Garr. Featuring Hackman and Duvall.

Three Days of the Condor (1975,  R)
Three Days of the Condor
As relevant and believable today as ever. An excellent screenplay adaptation from the book, about a CIA within the CIA and what happens when unaccountable agencies don't follow their own rules.
8
The Eiger Sanction (1975,  R)
The Eiger Sanction
Based on the raunchy pulp novel by Rodney William Whitaker, written under the pseudonym Trevanian. Clint Eastwood's most interesting film. A top notch intelligence community action thriller.
