Idle Hands (1999, R)
Not as good as i remembered from the first time i watched it but still quite a fun horror comedy from about ten years ago. With Jessica Alba doing her usual looking good but thats it thing and Devon Sawa as the slacker whose hand gets possessed and starts killing people, including his friend Seth Green, who comes back from the dead..A few gory moments and a few laugh's, Nothing special but still pretty good. |

Superbad (2007, R)
This is definately one of the best comedies of the year. Some great gags and one liners with some of the jokes being pretty disgusting at times!Good performances all round in general, especially Mclovin! The cops were cool as well.Made by the same guys that did Knocked Up,this is equally as good and is this years American Pie.Seth Rogen may have just saved American comedy. |

Disturbia (2007, PG-13)
I was looking forward to watching this film and i wasn't disappointed.A good story with good performances by the whole cast.I liked the way it had a thriller and slight horror element, with some jumpy, edge of your seat moments and the way we got to know the characters showed the film has some depth which was good and made sure the film wasn't just some run-of-mill thriller thing. And although Shia LeBeuf or whatever his name is was good in both this and Transformers i think its unfair he gets to get off with two really fit women, one film after the other. What a wanker!Fair play to him i spose. |

Halloween (2007, R)
More of a straight forward gory horror than a "suspense-horror" like the original. Rob Zombie has done a great job of making Michael Myers look completely evil. The way he kills his victims throughout looks very real and is pretty disturbing and the film keeps up that tense feeling most of the way through.Good soundtrack to! Hard to say whether its as good as the original. I mean, they're pretty different, Rob Zombie's vision being much more brutal and you could say a few things are explained a bit better in this one and if you like your horror brutal and in-your-face then you could well prefer this one. That said, the original is a lesson in suspense and is rightfully hailed as a genre classic. Some of the more snobby fans might complain that Myers speaks in this version but relax, its only 2/3 lines! Overall, if your a horror fan, this is worth checking out. |

Saw IV (2007, R)
Another year, another decent Saw film! This time Jigsaws dead, but when a tape is found inside him during his autopsy the fun begins! This has some good twists and ideas as expected but also gets a bit confusing at times and i just didn't get what was so big about the twist at the end.Ok,there was the obvious "so,he's not a good guy" thing but other than that?I dunno, maybe i missed something there.Other than that it still delivers on the twists and the gore and we also get to see what made Jigsaw want to teach people those "life lessons" he was so good at! |

| 44 |
Road Trip (2000, R)
A brilliant teen comedy, probably one of the best from the "american pie era".So many good jokes and Sean William Scott playing pretty much Stifler again! But all the characters are great in this and its good that all the main characters aren't just typical, dumb, American college students! This has some great laugh out loud moments,a few gross out bits and is just fun,and funny, all round. |
|
| 45 |
The Last Samurai (2003, R)
A great story and a good performance from Tom Cruise as the celebrated army general going to learn and fight in the ways of the Samurai. It's very compelling;its nearly 3 hours long but doesn't feel like it.There's some great fight scenes and the final scenes of the film are sad.Although i haven't seen the original,if its anything like this then its a very good piece of cinema. |

Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story (, Unrated)
Although this is just a longer version of an episode of Family Guy this isn't a bad thing as Family Guy is one of the best cartoons ever!A good little story about the shows best character with the usual funny, often hilarious goings-on of the rest of the Griffin family. An extended episode maybe, but a bloody good one.Damn you all to hell! |
|

30 Days of Night (2007, R)
It was great to see a decent vampire film on the big screen. Its been so long! This one was very good because the whole concept and idea of the film is brilliant so theres a good story to go along with all the gore! The vampires also manage to be scary and it was good to see that they were proper vampires who are just out for the kill instead of having human feelings.Pretty good performances from the cast, especially Melissa George, made this a worthwhile trip to the cinema! |
|
| 48 |
Yogen (Premonition) (2004, R)
A great story with some genuinely scary moments,a few "what the fuck?" moments and a brilliant story. This is about a man who, through pretty distreesing circumstances, finds out he can forsee the future and starts trying to find ways to change peoples future/destiny.Its well acted, directed and the story is possibly one of the best to come out of the Japanese horror genre for a while. |
|

Infection (2007, Unrated)
This is a bit of a mind-fuck!Its set in a hospital, which is always a good place for a horror movie. When a patient turns up in the hospital complaining of being in pain things take a very strange, disturbing turn! Its a bit Lynchian as theres a few surreal moments and some imagery and the overall feel is one of impending doom which keeps it compelling. The main twist towards the end is good and will keep you thinking after the film has finished.Very Weird but very watchable! |

Razor Blade Smile (1998, R)
A very good British vampire film.It gives the vampire myth a modern twist with a good story. The acting isn't exactly great with the main "villain" standing out with a very good performance but the strength of the story and Jake Wests directing keep the film moving along nicely.Add in a few gory moments and you've got a decent horror. Not all the acting was great and there was some dodgy dialogue here and there but this still gets 4 stars for a strong story, great anti-hero,a great villain and some good direction from Jake West, who later went on to do Evil Aliens. If you like vampires, this is worth checking out. |
|

The Return of the Living Dead (1985, R)
This was just one of those films thats so much fun you don't care if the acting, directing, continuity and whatever are spot on!Well, actually i didn't see anything wrong with those things;the actings over the top but thats because its supposed to be and its got some good, funny lines, its quite gory in parts, its got a girl who randomly takes her clothes off, has a great body and runs around in the rain and its got a proper 8o's goth pop-rock soundtrack. And its got zombie's.And thats all fine with me! |
|
| 52 |
The Bourne Identity (2002, PG-13)
I finally got around to watching the whole film the other day and wasn't disappointed!Matt Damon is great as Jason Bourne, theres plenty of great fight scences, the car chase in the middle is great and your on the edge of your seat most of the way through.A very good action thriller.Right, now for The Bourne Supremacy! |

Super Size Me (2004, PG-13)
A very interesting documentry about one mans attempt to eat nothing but McDonalds for 30 days.It shows him just before the start of his binge where he is in peak physical condition right through to the last day during which he has put on,lost and put on weight, his liver had turned to fat,his heart was in danger of failing if he carried on any longer and he was tired and depressed all the time up until the point he started eating McDonalds again, which made him feel good which shows the addictive quality's of fast food! Not a great advert for McDonalds and fast food in general but a great attempt at getting people to realise, although you have to think they'd know looking at the size of some of them, that this stuff isn't good for them and it will ruin their bodies if they carry on eating it.The main guy/presenter,Morgan Spurlock, also looks in detail at how obesity is spreading across the world due to the amout of McDonalds being consumed and the nutritional value each maccy D's meal carries.Overall this is a compelling, sometimes shocking, sometimes funny account at one mans journey to get the world to realise that although fast food might taste good its doing you no good! |

| 56 |
The Descent (2006, R)
Good British horror about a bunch of female friends going on a trip down an unknown cave in Scotland.Things start off ok until the girls realise that they're not the only ones down in the caves. This has some jump-out-of-your-seat moments and it has alot of tension as self-appointed leader Juno not only went to far when looking for the next big high, she also has a secret concerning one of the friends that could split up the entire group. This film has some very good performances and a very claustrophobic feel throughout. |
|
| 57 |
The Painted Veil (2006, PG-13)
Ok,im not usually into romantic drama's but as my two favourite actors are in this i thought i'd give it a go.And i enjoyed it!The acting by Ed Norton and Naomi Watts is brilliant. They are a husband and wife struggling to live with each other after Watts' character's adultery and it doesn't help that Norton's character,a doctor, has offered to help out in a disease ridden village in Shanghi! This is a good love story about forgivness over time with a sad, almost inevitable ending with great performances and a great setting. |
|
| 58 |
Macbeth (2006, Unrated)
A violent and daring remake of the Shakespeare play.Macbeth has been working as a local ganglord's right hand man for years and feels its about time he got the respect and admiration he deserves and should become a gang leader himself but the only way he can see himself doing this is if something bad happens to his boss.Cue lots of guns and blood as Macbeth loses his mind until the inevitable, bloody climax.A decent adaptation with the modernisation of the characters, the three witches especially, being interesting.A good film,if you can get past the old school shakespeare language! |

Strange Days (1995, R)
I've wanted to see this for a while now and really enjoyed it.Set on new years eve 1999,it follows Ralph Finnes character who's a dealer in short films you can wire into your brain so you can experience your ultimate fantasy. What he doesn't deal in is films of death so when these start circulating and they start to lead back to him and his ex-girlfriend,the sexy Julliette Lewis they have to find out who's responsible for the deaths and the death of a local influential rapper before midnight.Finnes adds a quirky, humourus side to his character and this is an exciting, fast paced thriller. |

No Country for Old Men (2007, R)
A very well made, very well acted film.A man with a case full of cash is being hunted across texas by its owner; a pschpathic killer who will kill anyone or anything that gets in his way.The two main actors put in great performances, especially the psychopath, who manages to be a cold blooded, twisted man but so calm and collective at the same time he almost seems normal!Tommy Lee Jones is also great as the sheriff who's realising he can't stop the killer and is on his way out into retirement. The only down side would be that certain parts are to slow and should have been made shorter, maybe even cut out as this makes the film move at what, at times, seems like an odd pace. The ending is also unexpected and a bit strange but thats a minor grumble.Overall, this is a very good Drama/Thriller. |
|
| 61 |
The Number 23 (2007, R)
An interesting, well made film about a normal, family mans obsession with a number that keeps appearing and eventually takes over his life.Jim Carrey puts in a good performance and the film has a very noir feel at times due to the use of shadows and voice-overs and this makes it more than just a run-of-the-mill psychological thriller. The whole 23 enigma really got me thinking and im sure that number will be turning up all over the place from now on!Not always the easiest film to watch but still very good. |
|
| 62 |
Collateral (2004, R)
A decent thriller about a taxi driver who gets roped into taking a hitman around to the places where his victims are in return for alot of cash.Good performances from both Tom Cruise as hitman,Vincent and Jamie Fox as driver,Max.Theres some good moments of tension as you see Max getting more and more distressed by Vincents actions but there are also moments where you see a near bond between the characters which makes this an interesting and engaging film. There's also a few good violent moments towards the end in the club where Vincent nearly gets caught by the police and the ending is also good as it mirrors a story Vincent tells early on in the film.Overall,a well acted, compelling thriller. |
|
| 63 |
Four Rooms (1996, R)
A fun,and funny, film about a belldoys new years eve hotel night shift.Four directors, including Quinten Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez have written and directed four short stories that take place in different rooms of the hotel throughout the night. It's clear to see that everyone had fun making this movie and with a few guest appearances from Antonio Banderas,Madonna and Bruce Willis as well as a brilliantly over the top performance by Tim Roth this film is an entertaining watch from start to finish. It'll probably go up half a star next time i watch it but tiredness effected my enjoyment of the final part so it's a 3 and a half and counting! |
|
| 64 |
Romeo Is Bleeding (1994, R)
Very good film noir/thriller with Gary Oldman as a US cop who starts to get involved with gangsters after giving tip- offs on various gangland targets,in return for alot of cash.He seems to be enjoying this as it seems an easy way to make alot of money for what is a fairly easy job. That is until a sexy, but mental, assasin, played very well by Lena Olin, becomes involved and Oldman's character gets seduced just as the gangsters order him to kill her.Things get interesting as Olmans character,Jack, has desicions to make that will effect the life of him and his wife,as well as the double crossing assasins'.Although it looks a little dated this is a well made and very well acted thriller with Oldman putting in another great performance. |
|

Black Snake Moan (2007, R)
A pretty original drama about two completely different people who overcome their differences and problems over their time spent together.Brilliant performances from Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci as the two people brought together.Jackson as the old blues player who's wife has just left him and Ricci as the town bike with a bad past. This has a few funny moments, dramatic moments and a suprisingly good chemistry between Christina Ricci and Samuel L. Jackson. The endings a bit strange,it doesn't end on a particularly high or low note,it just ends. But thats what makes it interesting. This isn't the kind of film you see everyday but it's one you'll want to watch again.Cool, blusey soundtrack to.Overall,a very good, sometimes hard-hitting,original drama. |
|
| 66 |
Crash (2004, R)
This is a film i've wanted to watch for a while now and i wasn't disappointed.Great performances from the whole cast and an interesting subject matter make this a compelling, thought provoking film. The ending's great to as you are left wondering what's going to happen in the character's live's and if/how they will change.A very good drama. |

Things We Lost in the Fire (2007, R)
An emotional drama about two people's loss and how they help each other recover.Benicio Del Toro and Halle Berry give brilliant, powerful performances. When Halle Berry's character loses her husband in a shooting it's his best friend,a man she used to hate and a drug addict, that she turns to for help and through this she attempts to help him recover from his addiction.David Duchovny also stars as the husband who gets tragically shot after attempting to help out a rowing couple.Overall, a compelling and moving film about loss and hope. |

| 70 |
Sleepy Hollow (1999, R)
Very good horror/period thriller with Johnny Depp as the investigator from 18th century New York sent to a village to solve a series of beheadings that have been taking place on the occupants of the village. The locals believe it to be the work of a ghost type figure named the Headless Horseman, which Depp's character,Ichabod Crane, doesn't believe until all the clues lead to the inevitable, scary truth. Some nice twists and a great, gothic style setting, along with some grisly killings and a decent cast including Christina Ricci,Christopher Walken,Michael Gambon and Miranda Richardson, plus an appearance from Christopher Lee make this an entertaining, well acted story with a great setting and satisfying ending.Overall,a very good film. |
|
| 71 |
Red Dragon (2002, R)
Decent remake of the 1986 thriller Manhunter, which shows the now legendary Hannibal "the cannibal" Lecter helping another agent out before he meets Clarice in Silence of the Lambs. The agent in question this time is Detactive Graham, played by Edward Norton, who agrees to come out of retirement to help catch a man known as the Red Dragon Killer.Lecter is his usual manipulative, scary but very intelligent self, giving abstract clues here and there as Graham gets closer to solving the mystery of the killer. Some good twists and turns and very good performances from Norton,Anthony Hopkins and Ralph Fiennes as well as appearances from Harvey Keitel Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Emily Watson make this an engaging, satisfying thriller and sets you up nicely at the end for another viewing of Silence of the Lambs. |
|
| 72 |
Them (Ils) (2007, R)
Scary,edge-of-your-seat,French thriller about a happy, young couple's move to a mansion in the middle of nowhere being disrupted by a gang of unwanted visitors. There's plenty of tension as the couple are stalked and chased around their home, but what do they want and who or what are they? The brilliant direction and sound keeps you glued to the screen throughout.A well made, adrenalin rush of a film. |
|
| 73 |
Wonderland (2003, R)
Great crime thriller/biopic about the downfall of legendary porn star John Holmes, played brilliantly by Val Kilmer. When people are found murdered in a house on LA's Wonderland Avenue it's thought,at first,to be the work of drug dealers, but things take a turn when it's revealed Holmes coud also be linked to the murders as well as a very high profile, local gangster. This is an exciting, fast paced biopic with a brilliant soundtrack and will keep you thinking throughout. |
|
| 74 |
One Hour Photo (2002, R)
Dark and slightly disturbing drama with Robin Williams as the lonely Sy Parish,a man who works in a discount supermarket in the one hour photo-shop section, developing photo's for various individual's and families. But there is one family in particular that interests Sy,the Yorkin's,a seemingly perfect family;a good looking husband and wife and a young son who appear to have it all.Over time Sy's interest becomes an obsession,to the point where he is imagining himself as a member of the family. But when Sy makes a shocking discovery when developing photograph's for another customer, things take a sinister turn.Robin Williams puts in an amazing performance, showing that he can do a lot more than comedy, showcasing a range of emotions while at the same time keeping Sy restrained, sometimes just on the edge of cracking, which keeps the film compelling. The set is also well thought out,no big colours, just plain and simple, like the main character.A very good film. |
|
| 75 |
Iron Man (2008, PG-13)
Great comic book adaptation action with Robert Downey Jr. staring as billionaire inventor Tony Stark who, when finds out about a plot to destroy America and the western world, makes a new kind of armour to get revenge on the terrorists threatening his country and uncover's the famous Iron Man suit. |
|
| 76 |
R-Point (2005, R)
A chilling,Vietnam war set Korean horror. When a group of soldier's are sent to R-point to track down another team of soldier's that have been missing for six months they get more than they were expecting when members of the team start seeing and hearing things and begin to think the place is haunted. The longer the team stay the more strange things become until they are all scared and paranoid of everything around them. This has plenty of creepy moments and a few twists and turns along the way to keep you interested and has a decent ending to.A good story,as with alot of K and J-Horrors,some nice twists along with some good acting make this an enjoyable film.Although i think the writer has got some sort of ass fetish;the number of times people are called asshole's is unbelievable,i'm doing a count next time but there's more asshole's in this film than at a BNP convention. That aside, this is another add to the long list of cool asian horror movies. |
|
| 77 |
May (2003, R)
Disturbing psychological horror about a young girl called May,a strange girl who has been lonely all her life and whose only friend is a doll that her mother gave her when she was little. After several failed attempts at making friends,May decides that the only way she will ever have friends or just a friend is if she literally makes her own. It's like a fucked up version of One Hour Photo,if i was to compare it with anything. |
|
| 78 |
Near Dark (1987, R)
Cool 80's vampire film that got overshadowed by The Lost Boys a bit but is still very good. When Nathan Patrelli from Heroes falls for a young girl,he follows her and gets caught up and involved with a group of travelling vampires who like to cause mayhem and destruction wherever they go.This is a pretty understated vampire movie;there's gory moments but it doesn't go overbaord, and thats good because we get to focus on the lead characters feelings for the young girl and the situation he's in.A good film and a worthy addition to the classic vampire film. |
|
| 79 |
Walk the Line (2005, PG-13)
Biopic follwing the early years of the legendary Johnny Cash. After struggling to leave home after the accidental death of his brother and the blame and abuse from his father,Johnny manages to get out, marry and have children. But when his family are nearly evicted from their home,Cash decides to take drastic action and try and get him and his band signed to a record label. This works out and it's not long before he's a big star. But this leads to struggles with drugs and alcohol and it's not long before he falls in love with another woman, the singer June Carter, and his life spirals out of control. This is rivetting stuff with great performances from Joaquin Phoenix as Cash and Resse Witherspoon as June Carter, who also do all the singing for their characters. An interesting look at a great musical artist. |

Doomsday (2008, R)
Enjoyable horror/action movie. When Scotland catches what becomes known as the "reaper virus" and peoples skin starts melting and people start dying, the country gets cut off from the rest of the world with a big wall put up around it.But 30 years later the virus starts happening in London and when it's discovered that there are survivors from the original virus still in Scotland,a team is sent in to find out how these people survived.Led by the sexy Rhona Mitra, the team discover an army of mental cannibalistic bastards and it's not long before the team are fighting for their lives against them. There's plenty of gore and plenty of action throughout and the pace rarely slackens, and despite the unforgivable use of Frankie Goes To Hollywoods frankly shit Two Tribes song during an otherwise brilliant car chase, this is another good film from Neil Marshall and a very good British horror. |
|
| 81 |
Starsky & Hutch (2004, PG-13)
Cool action comedy with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson as the mis-matched cops thrown together to solve a murder linked to an organisation led by a dodgy businessman played by Vince Vaughn. There's plenty of fun to be had along the way as the two cops get into some hilarious situations in an attempt to get closer to Vaughn's characters' dodgy dealings.Great performances from the three actors above plus appearances from Will Ferrell,Snoop Dogg(as cool gangster,Huggy Bear)and the sexy threesome of Juliette Lewis,Carmen Electra and Amy Smart means this was always going to be a success.Add in cameo's by the guys who originally played Starsky and Hutch and you've got a fun, entertaining movie! |
|
| 82 |
The Girl Next Door (2004, R)
When i first heard about this i thought it would be just another dodgy American Pie-esque,typical teen comedy with lots of gross out jokes and stuff, but i was suprised that this had a bit more depth than that.Elisha Cuthbert is stunning as the new neighbor of Matthew,a young man who has done great at school and never really lived life to the full and enjoyed himself, until he meets, and falls for, Cuthberts character,Danielle. However, when Matthew finds out that Danielle is an ex porn star he begins to question himself and the type of person he's got involved with and soon realises that he would do anything to be with Danielle. This has some funny moments, some touching(not that type of touching)moments and even a couple of darker moments as we see Matthew get mixed up with Porn producer Kelly.Overall,a decent film. And in case i haven't already mentioned it,Elisha Cuthbert is fit as fuck! |
|
| 83 |
Rock Star (2001, R)
A decent look at someones dreams becoming reality, as a singer in a tribute band of his heroes is picked to become their new singer.Chris Cole is a talented vocalist and takes his role in his Steel Dragons tribute band very seriously.Up to the point where he is thrown out of the band. He's devestated, until a member of Steel Dragons phones his house and asks him to try out as their new singer. He accepts and gets the job and is soon touring the world and living the life of a rock star. But with his long time manager/girlfiend stuck on the road and wanting to lead her own life,Chris has to decide what he really wants and how important his new lifestyle really is.This has some good moments where we see Chris performing with the band and really enjoying it,along with his obvious love for his girlfriend, played by Jennifer Aniston.A good performance by Mark Wahlberg as Chris Cole,an appearance from guitar daddy Zakk Wylde and a good film. |

| 84 |
Bride of Chucky (1998, R)
Another film i enjoyed more the second time round. This is a fun horror, this time Chucky gets brought back to life by former girlfriend Tiffany, who little after also gets turned into a doll by Chucky, and they attempt to kidknap a couple and kill them so their souls can be replaced into the human couple. If that makes sense.A few good kills and some gore along with some laughs and a decent soundtrack make this an enjoyable horror film. |

Comedy drama with Dennis Quaid as college professor,Lawrence Wetherhold, who since the death of his wife has become ignorant to his students and peers and more importantly his two kids. But when his adopted brother turns up needing help and the chance of a relationship comes in the form of an old student of his,Lawrence realises that he has to start taking responsibility for his life and his family.Especially his 17 year old daughter,Veronica, who seems to be following to closely in her dad's footsteps towards misery and lonliness. This has a good script with some witty dialogue and good performances.Particularly from Dennis Quaid and Ellen Page as Veronica, the bad mouthed, preppy teenager.Decent performances also from Thomas Haden Church as the adopted brother who's stay could actually turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Lawrence and Surfboard Jessica Parker as the former student and nurse that could help turn Lawrence's life around for the better. The only downside would probably be the soundtrack, that although ok at times,is featured a bit to heavily throughout the film.Other than that,a well written, smart, funny film. |

Intermission (2003, R)
A couples sudden break up seems to set off a chain of events in an irish town with dodgy police, small time crooks and seemingly normal people all getting caught up in some interesting moments that involve an affair, robbery, fighting, getting fired, documentry making and sexual frustration! Colin Farell and Cillian Murphy in particular give very good performances but overall the whole cast is good in this gritty, clever and funny film. |

Lord of War (2005, R)
Satire based on actual events about a dodgy arms dealer who gets involved with the wrong people as he schemes his way through to millions of dollars,a glamourous lifestyle and marrying and having a child with the woman of his dreams whilst helping to start and continue wars and battles in and around the middle east and Africa. It takes him a while to realise what it is exactly he's contributing to,even with the police/FBI close behind him,but when he does it could be to late for him to save his marraige and his conscience.Nicolas Cage puts in a suprisingly good performance as the man who will seemingly do anything to make a million. And with decent appearances from Ethan Hawke,Jared Leto and Ian Holm this is compelling stuff, although at times slightly distressing,it makes you realise how shady people can be just to make money and how people like Cage's character are helping to fund, and run,the wars that are messing up the world. |

The Hamiltons (2006, R)
Although this film isn't as gory as you'd think when looking at the cover and the fact that the film makers are called The Butcher Brothers, this is still a decent indie-style horror that has some shocks,a few gory bits and a brilliant twist at the end that i really didn't see coming and got me thinking about what i had just seen and what the clues to it were which i hadn't done since Saw and Fight Club and as i love those 2 films it was quite exciting! |

Wild Things (1998, R)
Great crime thriller.Matt Dillon plays a high school counselor accused of rape by the local rich girl and her class mate who lives in a trailer on the edge of town. When a local detective looks into the case he slowly begins to uncover a web of sex, lies, greed and betrayal, all seemingly put together by all three suspects to scam the rich girl's mother out of millions of dollars and move out of Florida. The twists just keep coming in this film; once you think that's it,another twist comes along and they're all suprisingly good!At times it feels a little over the top but thats part of it's charm,it doesn't take itself to seriously and throws in the twists and turns when you least expect it.And yes, this film is famous for one particular scene involving Dillon,Denise Richards and Neve Campbell but that scene isn't the only good thing about this film!A great performance by Bill Murray in a small role as Dillons lawyer and decent enough turns from everyone, including Richards,Campbell and Kevin Bacon as the shady detective make this a fun, sexy but engaging thriller. |

The Zombie Diaries (2007, Unrated)Frighteningly real zombie movie.Basically, it's three video diaries put together to show how the zombie virus infects the world;the first showing the start of the infection to the final installment where the zombies have taken over. You don't see loads of zombies running around everywhere throughout the film, this is about three groups of people and their attempts at survival and this makes it more effective when you do eventually see zombies. The only down point would be the use of a soundtrack, that instead of adding atmosphere makes the film come across as more of a reconstruction in a documentry than pieces of live footage which i'm guessing was the idea. That aside, this is uncompromising, effective stuff for the most part and a good British horror film. |

Baise-Moi (2001, Unrated)
Fuck a duck, this really is a hardcore thriller! After years of living in a crap French town, being abused and bullied, two hardened, street wise girls, one a young girl struggling to cope, the other a beautiful but tough prostitute, decide to get out and go on a road trip full of sex and murder, not caring about the consequences of their actions and who they hurt/kill on the way, with an inevitable climax,so to speak! With scenes of real sex,its suprising this got away with an 18 rated certificate but its the proper plot and script with decent actors that means it gets away from being described as merely pornographic. And in it's own right, defence maybe, its a good, hard hitting and uncompromising thriller. |

Hellraiser 3: Hell on Earth (1992, R)
Decent second sequel to the iconic horror series. In this one, Pinhead is unleashed on the Earth through a statue type thing that a sleazy nightclub owner buys as a centre piece for his room. The key to Pinhead's escape is through the bodies of victims that get sucked into the statue and feeding him the flesh and blood he needs to fully enter Earth and it's the job of a local reporter to use the special box that Pinhead and the cenobites escaped from to send them back to hell. This has some cool gory moments and the story and script isn't that bad, despite the odd cheesey line but thats expected. The main let down would be the random appearance of the ghost of the man who later became pinhead, all we know is that he fought with the reporters dead dad in the war but there's no real explanation as to why he's there or how he got there, unless i missed something.Other than that, not as good as the first two but still good. |

Lords of Dogtown (2005, PG-13)
Very good drama about the rise of the skateboarding culture in 1970's Calafornia. This follows three friends who are into just hanging out, surfing and skateboarding until the owner of the local surf shop decides it's time they took a step up and forms a skateboarding team and the boys become more and more successful up to the point where their friendships are tested and threatened. This has good performances from the whole cast, including Emile Hirsch and the late, great Heath Ledger,a brilliant soundtrack featuring some classic songs from the 70's and is a compelling look into the strength of friendship. |

Lady in the Water (2006, PG-13)
Fairytale/bedtime story from M. Night Shyamalan.Cleveland Heap is a landlord who discovers a water nymph/narf in his pool and finds out she is trapped between this world and hers but to get back she needs help, not just from Cleveland but from those around him to.Where Unbreakable was like a comic book come to life, this is a bedtime story come to life and Paul Giamatti puts in a great performance as Cleveland, the put upon landlord.Ok,so Shyamalan isn't that geat as one of the residents, neither are some of the other actors for that matter. But thats a minor grumble as this is just about the big, enchanting story thats unfolding and in that respect its a very good film. |

Duel (1972, PG)
When you think about it,a bloke being followed and terrorized by a mental truck driver as he tries to drive home from work doesn't sound like the most exciting hour and 20 minutes you could spend watching a film,i mean, how far could they take that? But fuck a duck, twice, this film is great! It's all about the tension of this seemingly normal man just wanting to get home but he can't because of the truck drivers ruthless persuing. And then we see the man becoming more paranoid throughout. There's a break in all the driving though;the brilliant scene in the cafe where we begin to see the man beginning to lose it and starts questioning all those around him,in his mind anyway. |

A Complete History of My Sexual Failures (2008, Unrated)Like some young, dumb, much skinnier,English version of Michael Moore, film maker Chris Wait attempts to make a documentry about why he's been dumped by all of his ex-girlfriends and how he can improve himself in an attempt to find a new one or get back together with one of the exe's. We see some uncomfortable moments as Chris rings up his ex-girlfriends to try and arrange meeting up and interviewing them and some even more uncomfortable, but sometimes very funny moments when he does actually interview them. The thing that makes this film great is the honesty of Chris Wait as we see him talking to his mum about his problems with relationships, visiting the doctor about his sexual health and best/most painful to watch, visiting an S n' M dungeon to get "punished" in ways a man shouldn't have to see on a big screen!Ever. |

The Sixth Sense (1999, PG-13)
A very good supernatural thriller with Bruce Willis as a psychologist who attempts to help outcast Cole Sear who not only is regularly bullied at school but also claims that he can see dead people with Willis being the only person that Cole confides in about this despite attempting to explain/hinting to his mother. This is chilling stuff at times with a great performance from Hayley Joel Osment as Cole and also Bruce Willis as the psychologist who proves theres more to him than just action films. And of course, its the unforgettable twist at the end that makes this film. |

The Matador (2005, R)
Pierce Brosnan ia brilliant in this black comedy about an unlikely meeting betwwen a tired hitman and a salesman. When salesman Danny, played by Greg Kinnear, takes a job in Mexico and meets Julian at a bar he doesn't realise what he might be getting himself into and by the time he does its to late and hitman Julian thinks he's found a friend for life as Danny finds it more difficult to get away from Julian. This has some very funny moments as we see Julian showing Danny how easy a hit can be as well as his activities with drink and women. This has quite a touching ending to.A decent black comedy. |

Edmond (2005, R)
Hard hitting drama with William H. Macy as Edmond,a normal guy with a wife and kids and a boring job who one day decides he's had enough and leaves and attempts to find himself during a night on the town.As the night goes on, Edmonds frustrations at the world become more intense until he snaps and his racism and homophobia is released. Macy puts in a brilliant performance and there's also short but sweet appearances from Julia Stiles, Denise Richards and Mena Suvari. Great film but not for the easily offended. |

When a Texan bar owner discovers his wife has been cheating on him he hires a private investigator to spy on them and later, kill them. But things don't go to plan when the investigator decides it would be easier to kill the bar owner than the couple. There's paranoia, betrayal and deception from everyone as we see that this murder isn't going to be as simple to cover up and forget about as the investigator, the bar owners wife and her lover seem to at first believe.Good script, good performances.A decent noir-ish thriller from the Coen brothers. |

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2) (2008, PG-13)
Much better follow up to the first Hellboy movie from a few years back. This time the big red fucker has to stop the creatures from another, mythical type world taking over the,er,world.Everything about this is better than the first; Ron Pearlman has that dry wit down as Hellboy, the fight scences and action sequences are bigger and better and Guillermo del Toro has come up with some cool creatures.Oh,and Selma Blair looks fit.Luke Goss is also great as the main villain, being cool and quite menacing at the same time, which is what most comic book style villains aspire to do!And quite a sweet ending to,more so than the usual action blockbusters anyway.Good all round fun with plenty of action and cool shit! |

Drugstore Cowboy (1989, R)
Drama with Matt Dillon as a druggie who leads a small crew as they go around robbing drugstores, selling and taking what they steal and moving from place to place as the police stay hot on their heels.Dillon gives a great performance as the young man who slowly realises the road he's going down and eventually tries to change it but not before lots of deals, moves and a tragic accident.Decent performnces also from Kelly Lynch, James LeGros and the lovely Heather Graham. This has some nice surreal imagery at times as we see Dillons character getting wasted and despite occasional bursts of dodgy music, this is a well written, well acted, realistic and occasionally witty drama. |

Bangkok Dangerous (1999, R)
Brilliant and visually stunning thriller about a deaf and mute hitman called Wong who usually takes out victims in a quick, cold blooded manner but this starts to change when he meets, and falls for,a local pharmacy worker. But things are difficult due to his line of work and the fact that there's problems in the local underworld that Wong, and his brother, get caught up in. This has some great action, violence and has plenty of drama and tension to. The Pang brothers do a brilliant directing job but i'd say the only downside would be to many different styles of picture during flashbacks etc, they over-do it a bit there but other than that, good script and story and some decent acting make this a stylish, entertaing and compelling film. |

The Signal (2008, R)
Very good and well made horror about people going mental when they recieve a signal from their TV's.Its cleverly done with three different "transmissions" or story's which show how people are coping with the people that have become infected/effected by the signal and they eventually all link up. The transmissions are all pretty different, the first one being very in-your-face style horror and the second being very tongue in cheek with plenty of black comedy and is very funny at times and the third, although similar to the first shows the resolution(from what i remember anyway,i watched it a couple of weeks ago!).This is a very inventive, fairly original horror with some great acting, some gore and some scares and possibly one of the best weapons in cinema history! |

Batman (1989, PG-13)
After being so impressed with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight i had to go back and check out the first Batman film.Tim Burton did a good job on this, making Batman and Gotham City darker than what we see later in the average Batman Forever and the truly horrible Batman and Robin.Although the new Batmans give alot more depth to our hero, Michael Keaton still puts in a decent performance, not brilliant but entertaining enough but it's Jack Nicholsons version of The Joker that steals the show, being funny and menacing in equal measures just like Heath Ledger would go on to do so well in The Dark Knight, the only difference being Nicholson,as good as he is here, hams it up a bit to much with the scene with the "re-painting"" of the museum and the turning up in Gotham City on a big pink cake being a bit over the top and this is why Ledger edges it as the better Joker. |

RocknRolla (2008, R)
This has been called a "return to form" for Guy Richie by pretty much every film reviewer ever.In England anyway. So obviously expectations were quite high as much as i try not to take press reviews to heart, but on this occasion they were right. Well acted with a decent,twisty-turny script and plenty of sly, cheeky humour with shades of darkness here and there make this a very entertaining British thriller.Among the best performances are Gerard Butler, who pretty much holds the story together, Mark Strong, Tom Wilkinson and the newcomer Toby(can't remember his surname!) for whom the films title is based around.Great sondtrack to.Fans of Lock,Stock and Snatch won't be disappointed. |

Batman Returns (1992, PG-13)
Decent sequel to the 1989 hit that has everything you need from a sequel really;more of everything! This time Batman has to go up against both The Penguin, played well by Danny DeVito and Catwoman, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, as The Penguin gets nominated for Mayor with the help of Gotham City big-shot Christopher Walken(who plays Christopher Walken, just with white hair).Little do the people of Gotham know that Walken is a bit of a wanker and killed his secretary(Pfeiffer),or so he thinks, when she uncovered some of his dodgy dealings. But fortunately Batman has a suspicion something weird is going on and investigates. The nice,gothic-y sets and good all round entertainment make this a very good sequel. |

Mouth to Mouth (2006, Unrated)
Drama about a young girl who becomes involved with a travelling group who claim they can help change lives for the better.Of course the young girl, Sherry, is tempted and immediately joins the group- SPARK-and hopes for a better life, making new friends, moving from place to place and maybe eventually finding her place in the world. It's later she realises that certain members of the group are just manipulative control freaks just living off the land and not much else, but by this time it could be to late for Sherry to escape. Ellen Page is brilliant as Sherry, an unsure young girl just trying to find herself, taken in by the promise of a great new life and future. Its no wonder the producers of Hard Candy wanted her in their film after this performance but fair play to the other actors, they were great to.A pretty original, gritty and compelling drama. |

Southland Tales (2007, R)
Quite a hard one to describe but i'll go with political satire/action/comedy and in one bit, musical. It's about the end of the world and with world war 3 breaking out, a heat wave going on in Los Angelas and America under the thumb of the corparation US-ident,things are looking bleak. But it seems that an action star, a porn star/presenter/pop star and a cop hold the key to a massive conspiracy. As this is from the same guy that did Donnie Darko there's always an element of "what the fuck?" going on but when you think about it it's just whats happening in the world now taken to the extreme with some twists thrown in.Good performances and well made. This is an intriguing(probably spelt that wrong, you know the word!)and intelligent,if strange, film. |

North by Northwest (1959, Unrated)
Probably, along with Psycho, Rear Window and Vertigo, Alfred Hitchcock's most well known film. An action thriller about a man who gets mistaken for a spy and has to go on the run to save his life, this is one of the more fast paced, action packed films of Hitchcock's catalogue. Cary Grant does a good job as the man on the run from a criminal gang and as with Hitchcock's other films, this has a slight comedy element at times, again showing how he likes to blend different styles together but overall this is a straight forward old school action thriller and a very good one to. |

Thriller set in Iceland.A man is devestated by the death of his young daughter from a rare brian disease.A local detective discovers the dead body of a murdered man that could somehow be connected to the young girls death. This is well written stuff and is pretty well acted with some tension and moments of humour. It may get a little confusing at times but overall this is a decent thriller and worth checking out. |

Vampire Diary (2007, Unrated)
Cool take on the vampire genre.Holly is filming a documentry/video diary about "weekend vampires", fans of the vampire myth that go out to goth clubs at the weekends and celebrate their fascination. However, when Holly meets Vikki, who claims shes a real vampire, there's an almost instant chemistry and they start a passionate affair. But when Vikki reveals she's expecting a vampire baby, they have to find the blood to feed Vikki AND the baby any which way they can. This indie British horror is pretty powerful and compelling with a good performance by Anna Walton as Vikki and has a cool goth/industrial soundtrack. A decent addition to the vampire genre. |

Finding Neverland (2004, PG)
Nice fantasy drama about Scottish playwright JM Barrie and how he finds inspiration for his next play(the very sucessful,Peter Pan),and friendship in the form of a young widow and her three young sons. There's some interesting visuals as Barrie lets the kids imaginations run wild with various stories as he develops a close friendship with the young widow played by Kate Winslet in another great performance. Johnny Depp is also very good as JM Barrie, pulling off a fine Scots accent while he's at it. Maybe not for everyone but this is an interesting and heart-warming film. |

The Air I Breathe (2008, R)
Powerful drama based around an old Asian proverb that says life can be broken down into four key emotions: Happiness, pleasure, sorrow and love. It shows four main characters and what they go through to reach one of the four emotional states and how they are all connected. This has a great cast, including Forest Whitaker, Andy Garcia, Kevin Bacon, Brendan Fraser and Sarah Michelle Gellar,in one of her better film choices since Buffy finished, and has a good, interesting story. It's similar to 21 Grams in the way the plot revolves around the main characters with a fate theme uniting characters,so if you like that then this is highly recommended.Although not as good as 21 Grams,The Air I Breathe is an emotional,at times exciting drama/thriller. |

Hallam quickly finds a job washing up in a hotel kitchen and whilst there falls for his boss, beautiful Sophia Myles, who happens to look exactly like his birth mother. He spies on her while shes at home whilst battling with thoughts of his supposedly evil step-mum. Jamie Bell puts in a great performance as Hallam Foe and the film itself is interesting, thought provoking and well written . |

Pineapple Express (2008, R)
Comedy about a couple of stoners who get into some serioius shit when one of them witnesses a murder by a local gangster on a rival but gets spotted. Its then that the man, played by Seth Rogen, and his pot dealer,James Franco, have to go on the run as they are being persued by three of the gangsters' henchmen, one of which is a female police officer. This is a decent comedy with the two leads being on top form and there's some brilliantly funny lines throughout. There's a few times in the film where you feel things are being improvised on the spot and this adds to a slightly dragging on a bit feel at times but overall this has a decent enough story, some great lines and dialogue, some cool action/fight scenes and Amber Heard. Think a less crazy, stoner version of Dumb and Dumber and your about there! |

Perfect Creature (2006, R)
Vampire movie about humans and vampire's co-existing peacefully. Things seem fine aside from the occasional sign of caution, but when a flu epidemic breaks out over the humans and a rogue vampire starts feeding on them, the balance looks set to be destroyed so it's up to a team of local detectives, along with help from a well known and respected vampire, to hunt down the rogue vampire. It's good to see a vampire movie with a decent plot along with good acting, it doesn't happen often, unfortunately! A good take on the vampire genre. |

X-Men: The Last Stand (2006, PG-13)
The last in the trilogy of the X-men films and this keeps up the previous two films' high standard. In this one, a formula has been created that can help "cure" mutants and make them normal human beings. This is something that confuses the mutants and with Magneto believing it's survival of the fittest,he,and his gang of mutants go up against the good guys of Charles Xavier and his team, who believe everyone should be equal, whatever happens. This has some great action sequences, good story and script and again,a strong ensamble cast featuring Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart and Famke Jenson as well as Kelsey Grammer plus small role for Ellen Page, making sure The Last Stand is full of good performances to. An exciting, action packed film. |

Angel Heart (1987, R)
Decent thriller/horror with Mickey Rourke as a private investigator persuaded to take on a possibly dangerous case involving a missing person. Despite being a bit creeped out by the man offering him the job, Robert De Niro in a brief but effective, and later very important, appearance, he takes the job, but things turn nasty and our PI gets alot more than he bargained for. This is an interesting film, with elements of classic detective story, thriller and horror all mixed in to create quite a compelling and powerful film. |

Milk (2008, R)
Interesting political drama with Sean Penn as Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to run for office in his home town in San Fransisco. Milk is 40 when it dawns on him that he needs to do something with his life, and, along with his new boyfriend, he opens a photo shop, despite the feeling they might not be welcome in the area due to their orientation. Later, when the shop proves popular with pretty much every local gay person in the area, but they are still getting certain amounts of abuse, Harvey decides to take action. Its then we see his progression as he fights for what he believes in and drums up alot of support as he fights for equal rights. This is pretty compelling stuff as we see real life clips of various incidents during Harveys run for office intertwined with the film. Its also a great performance from Sean Penn as Harvey Milk with a good supporting cast including James Franco, Emile Hirsh and Josh Brolin. |

The Damned United (2009, R)
This is a very interesting and compelling look during a short period of one of English footballs biggest personalities and talented managers, Brian Clough. We see Cloughs rise and fall as manager of Derby County, where he gets them promoted into the first division where his main goal(no pun intended) seems to be to beat and upstage Leeds United and their manager Don Revey, which he has been unsuccessful at since an FA Cup round match where Revey didn't shake Clough's hand. It's later, during Clough's short time as Leeds manager when Revey leaves, we see Clough's fall from grace. |

Blow (2001, R)
Drama/Biopic with Johnny Depp as George Jung. A man who became infamous in drug trafficing circles during the 70's and is now in prison until 2014 for smuggling cocaine along with various other drugs throughout the 70's/80's. We see George's humble beginnings as he moves to Calafornia with his lifelong friend, Tuna, in the late 60's and starts selling weed to anyone who'll take it. It's not long until George and Tuna are known by everyone in the area and it's not long until George comes up with the idea of making more money by smuggling their drugs even further afield. As time goes on, Jung gets involved with more dodgy characters until the point where he's shopped to the police by his mother at one point, then later shot. He survives but it's inevitable his luck would run out eventually. A very compelling film with a great performance by Johnny Depp as Jung and decent appearances from Ray Liotta, Penelope Cruz and Ethan Suplee. |

The Game (1997, R)
Thriller from David Fincher. Michael Douglas plays Nicholas, a wealthy businessman who just does his job and is all pretty clean cut and boring, until his brither gives him a birthday present; a special live action game that his brother promises will change his life and make it more fun. Nicholas takes all the tests the company that run the game ask and it soon begins, but Nicholas gets alot more than he bargained for when The Game takes over his life and Nicholas seems to be getting terrorised by something he thought he'd have control over but seems much bigger than he could ever have imagined. This pulls you in and is real edge of your seat stuff at times. Although it gets a bit confusing and is probably a bit overlong, this is another good thriller from David Fincher. |

Enduring Love (2004, R)
An unsetting, dark drama. No matter how angry Joe gets with him, Jed is convinced there is something between them after they both witnessed the accident. This drives Joe even further into despair as he was already struggling with what happened. This is really gripping stuff with great performances. A very good psychological drama. |

Hansel & Gretel (2007, Unrated)
Dark and disturbing fairytale modernised, Asian horror style! When a young mans' car crashes at the side of a road he stumble's across the nearest house for miles in the woods. The family that live there, what seems like a husband, wife and three kids seem happy enough to take the man in,but a little weird. As time goes on the man realises the husband and wife aren't all they seem and the kids aren't exactly normal either and have a very disturbing upbringing. The house and initial views of the family are typical fairytaly/childrens story stuff and this makes the scenes of the kids upbringing even more disturbing. It's also well made, has a good script with good performances all round. At 2 hours its possibly a little to long but still, this is an effective, dark fairytale brought to life in a disturbing but satisfying way. |

Cronos (1994, R)
Horror/chiller from Gullimero Del Toro about an antiques dealer who finds an ancient, beatle shaped device made by an alchemist hundreds of years ago that can grant eternal life to the person it sinks it's "claws" into. But along with eternal life comes a thirst for human blood and an aversion to sunlight. Problem is, the dealer has the device but it's instruction manual lies in the hands of a wealthy but dying businessman who wants the device for his own use. Although not really gory or particularly scary, this is a well written film, a great story and an original take on the vampire myth. |

Donkey Punch (2008, R)
Gripping British horror about three girls on holiday that get persuaded by a group of young men to come party on their boat. After a mix of booze and drugs the inevitable happens and three of the men get involved in a steamy sex session with two of the girls, a session that involves the mythical "Donkey Punch", something that ends in tragedy and would be life changing for everyone on the boat. This starts off fairly predictably but then becomes more and more gripping and exciting as the film goes on. What makes this pretty different from other horrors of this kind is that, until the pivitol moment, the girls are in control of whats happening but soon everything spirals out of control for everyone. A solid modern horror film. |

When GeneCo emerges it seems a savior has arrived and people can have the organ transplants they need. But for a price. What she doesn't know is that her dad is a Repo Man, this would devestate the girl but the man is hiding a deadly secret. This is a very striking film and is very original for a horror and also with great performances from Anthony Stewart Head and Alexa Vega, who have brilliant singing voices, as well as Paul Sorvino, Sarah Brightman and shockingly, Paris Hilton! |

Splinter (2008, R)
Great debut horror from Toby Wilkins. When a couple on a honeymoon weekend away get taken hostage by a couple of criminals on the run that turns out to be the least of their worries when they are attacked at a nearby gas station by a man with what seem to be spikes all over his body. It seems this is some kind of living, spreading organism that can spread through living things. Trapped in the gas station, the couple and their main captor have to find a way to escape. Pretty original stuff, this is an exciting modern horror with enough scares and gore to keep most horror fans on the edge of their seats. |

Down in the Valley (2005, R)
Gripping drama with Edward Norton as Harlan, a man who seems to believe he's a cowboy. When he meets pretty teenager Tobe, she falls for his charms but as Harlan gets closer to Tobe and her younger brother it seems there could be more to Harlan than meets the eye, something that Tobes step-father seems to notice straight away but Tobe refuses to listen. Great performances from Edward Norton and Evan Rachel Wood as Tobe, along with David Morse as the Step-Dad and Rory Culkin as Tobes little brother. |

Dracula A.D. 1972 (1972, PG)
Classic vampire horror with Christopher Lee as Dracula, who is risen from the grave by a seemingly unhinged man in London in 1972. Dracula makes his way through a group of young friends but has his heart set upon the grand daughter of the famous vampire hunter, Van Helsing. This is pretty fun for the most part with inappropriately upbeat music in the death scenes! |

Rumble Fish (1983, R)
Arty, noir-ish drama with Matt Dillon and Mickey Rourke about 2 brothers, one a cool as fuck biker who nearly everyone in town worships and the other, a thug and dreamer who tries to live up to his brothers reputation. Their boredom at the town they live in has forced to make up stories about the old days and gang fights but the reality is they come from a shitty little town and are desperate to leave like everyone else. This looks really good in black and white and has good performances from Rourke and Dillon as well as appearances from Dennis Hopper, who's brilliant as the dad, Diane Lane as Dillon fit girlfriend and Nicolas Cage as a friend of the brothers. This is a well made film by Francis Ford Coppola, visually stunning and well acted. |

Be Cool (2005, PG-13)
Enjoyable sequel to 1995's Get Shorty with John Travolta reprising his role as the cooler than cool Chilli Palmer. This time, Chilli's bored of the film industry and wants to get involved in the music business, despite being aware of its many shady characters. After discovering sexy singer Linda in the Viper Room in LA his mind is made up and he wants to make her a star. This is a fun watch as Travolta gets to do pull off some dance moves with Uma Thurman again, as well as fighting off competetion over Linda from Vince Vaughn and Harvey Kietel's music "big-wigs" and avoid trouble with some dodgy russians and gangster rappers as well as sort out a career for bodyguard Elliot, played brilliantly by The Rock who's funny as fuck! I was enjoying this film anyway but when Aerosmith made an appearance that made it even better! Christina Milian also does a good job as promising singer Linda. It looks like everyone had fun making this movie and thats what makes it so entertaining. Fans of Get Shorty should love it! |

Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008, R)
Dirty rom-com with Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks as flat mates who are so skint they decide to make a porno and sell it to various porn mags and film companies to make a load of money. A brilliant idea thats made all the more difficult when Zack and Miri fall in love. There's some hilarious moments when the gang attempt to make the film and some great potetial titles are said throughout as well as some great lines in general. Maybe a bit of a soppy ending for some but this is funny film with great performances and above all a great idea, probably the sort of thing you'd expect from Kevin Smith actually! Probably his best film in a while. Good stuff. |

Drag Me to Hell (2009, PG-13)
Entertaining horror from Sam Raimi which sees him going back to his Evil Dead days with plenty of shocks and laughs along the way. Christine is a loan officer in a bank looking for a promotion, so when she refuses an elderly woman a loan she thinks shes just doing her job but when shes later attacked in the car park by the woman, Christine believes she's been cursed as strange and scary things start happening to her. This is an enjoyable horror with some great laughs following the many jumps which makes for one of most fun horror films i've seen for a while and proves(just in case no body realised before) that horrors don't have to be all doom and gloom to work. |

Three and Out (2008, PG)
Decent comedy drama with Mackenzie Crook as a man who, already bored with his job as a London tube driver, becomes even more depressed when two people throw themselves under his train in as many weeks. But later our man finds out if he hits three people iin a month he gets early retirement and 10 years salary. Spurred on by this he attempts to find a third victim/accident so he can finish his job, claim the ten years salary and move to his dream house, in the middle of nowhere in Scotland, and get on with his dream job as a writer. This is a well written, effective comedy drama with good performances from Crook, Colm Meaney, Imelda Staunton and the lovely Gemman Arterton. |

Terminator Salvation (2009, PG-13)
Decent sequel to the classic series. This one has more of a serious tone to the first three Terminator films, that element of fun completely gone and sometimes you miss it but the majority of the time your enjoying the brilliant action sequences. In terms of the story arc, it doesn't go to deep, it's mostly action but overall this is an entertaining, edge-of-your-seat thriller. Still not as good as the first two though. Better than the third so thats something! |

Jurassic Park III (2001, PG-13)
I was pleasantly suprised by this one as i didn't think much to the second but everything that was bad about the second one is put right here. In The Lost World it seemed that they were just looking for an excuse to have a big dinosaur attack so did nearly an hour of uninteresting stuff to get to it. Here, they know what we want to see and deliver. Just a simple story to ease everyone in then comes the running and screaming and cool looking dino's. The world could have done without The Lost...erm...World and skipped straight to this badboy! |

Blood: The Last Vampire (2009, R)
Cool action/horror based on the cult Japanese animation. Saya is a kickass vampire hunter working for a secret organisation in Japan in the vietnam war era. Her main aim is to find and capture her arch enemy who was behind her father's murder several years before. But along the way Saya, who's also a vampire, gets caught up protecting the daughter of an army major, which make things a lot more difficult. Some great fight scenes and gore makes this an enjoyable action movie. |

Underworld: The Rise of the Lycans (2009, R)
Quality prequel to the first two Vampire vs Werewolf films. At this point in time the vampire's are a very high class breed, almost aristocratic, and the werewolves are seen as lower class scum and are kept away from the vamps castle by their leader and his army. But there's one werewolf, Lucien, who's imprisoned at the castle, who shows bravery and rebels against the vamps. This is an action packed story of the origins of the Vampires vs Werewolves myth and does a pretty good job of explaining everything amongst the action. This time Rhona Mitra plays the heroine, Sonia, and does a good job despite the obvious comparisons to Kate Beckinsale's brilliant Selene character from the first two films. Overall, a decent action/horror. |

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008, PG-13)
Cool, indie romantic comedy. Nicks a geeky band dude and Norah's the daughter of a rich record producer. They both meet at one of Nicks gigs when Norah pretends to be his girllfriend in what turns out to be an embarassing situation. It later turns out that these two are meant to be together. It might seem a bit lame and predictable but the good cast, witty, well written dialogue and cool soundtrack make this an enjoyable little love story. |

Surveillance (2009, R)
Fairly predictable but still harsh thriller. A young girl, a cop and a young woman are witnesses to a brutal murder/s down a freeway in the middle of nowhere but getting them to confess to exactly what they've seen is proving difficult, even FBI guys Bill Pullman and Julia Ormond can't seem to piece together whats gone on. Or can they? This has it's brutal moments and Bill Pullman is brilliant but what could have been a great murder mystery horror/thriller was let down by the fact i guessed the twist within the first half an hour! Still, pretty good. |

Summer of Sam (1999, R)
Great drama set in 70's New York among the famous "Son of Sam" murders. This is a fascinating film because the killer is pretty much in the background as we see the effects the fear of whats happening has on a close knit group of family and friends in an Italian-American area of New York. Some great scenes and dialogue with good performances from John Leguizamo, Mira Sorvino and Adrien Brody among others. |

Choke (2008, R)
Black comedy based on the Chuck Palaniuk book. Victor Mancini is your general prick; a guy who pretends to choke in resturants so the person/people that save him feel that they should send him checks on a regular basis to make themselves feel better. Victor also pays regular visits to his dying mother, often pretending to be someone else. Amongst this, he is a, sort of, recovering sex addict and medical school drop-out who works in a colonial village as a tour guide/actor, playing the role of a worker from the old days. Along with his friend, it seems life is going down the shitter for Victor. Until he gets some very interesting, possibly life changing news, from his mothers old diary. Sam Rockwell is brilliant as Victor Mancini, a great character to play as he shows many different sides to his personality during the film. And there are also other great turns in the film from Anjelica Huston as Victors mum and Kelly Macdonald as a nurse who has alot more to her than meets the eye. A good black comedy that maybe won't be as successful as Palaniuk's other adaptation, Fight Club, but its a totally different film and good in its own right. |

Death Sentence (2007, R)
Brutal revenge thriller. Nick Hume has a great family and job but his life is seemingly ruined one night when his son is violently murdered. Not happy with how the court case turns out, Nick takes it upon himself to get bloody revenge on all involved in his sons killing. There's some brutal, gory moments here as well as some dramatic and suspensful ones to. Kevin Bacon is perfectly cast as the average kinda guy who reacts like alot of average kinda guys would. |

The Forgotten (2004, PG-13)
Decent, conspiracy style thriller with Jullianne Moore who believes she lost her son in a plane crash only to be told that its all in her head. Convinced she isn't a bit mental, she investigates further and finds a man with the same problem; his daughter died but everyone else has no memory of it happening. As they delve deeper and the story unravels its all quite interesting and if you've got an open mind, not totally stupid. It's a good plot actually and Moore puts in a good turn as usual. As does Gary Sinise as her doctor and Dominic West as the dude who lost his daughter. Interesting stuff, worth a watch. |

Stuck (2008, R)
Slightly disturbing psychological thriller. Brandi works hard as a nursing assistant in a retirement home and is looking for a promotion and on the weekends enjoys getting drunk and taking drugs. After one eventful night out it seems Brandi has more than her dodgy hair style to worry about as she runs over a man who has recently been evicted from his home. But instead of calling for help from the police or ambulance she keeps driving and leaves him trapped in her car windsheild! Unsure of what to do when she gets home she just leaves him there. But the poor man isn't going to go away or die easily. The fact that this is based on a true story makes it even more shocking and proves you don't have to be a nutcase to do this kind of thing, Brandi seemed pretty normal until the accident! Although the ending is somewhat different to what actually happened, the film makers have pushed the story to its limit and have made an entertaining, clever, if occassionally gory and disturbing, thriller with a hint of black comedy and horror about it. |

Watchmen (2009, R)
Exciting, if overlong, action adventure based on the comics. Someone kills an ex- superhero in America in 1985 and a vigilante investigates and uncovers much more than he bargained for. However, there is one "man" that could stop it all, the God-like, always annoyingly naked and blue, Dr. Manhattan. Some great special effects and fairly brutal fight scenes and violence give this a grittier edge than other comic adaptations as do a couple of sex scenes involving the sexy and curvy in the right places Malin Akerman. A good performance by Jackie Earle Haley as the vigilante to. A decent film with some great moments but its a bit to long with to much glowing blue cock and not enough Akerman ass! |

In the Loop (2009, Unrated)
Fast paced political satire. When out of his depth parlament minister Simon Foster lets slip on national television that he backs the idea of a war it suddenly gets alot of attention from Washington and the media. Foster obviously doesn't want a war, it was a stupid slip of the toungue but he has no idea how to get out of the situation. Cue fellow minister, Peter Capaldi, who will attempt to get Foster, and the goverment ,out of trouble. What follows is some of the finest, sweariest and funniest insults ever heard, mostly by Capaldi's character, as your swept along by the whole story. The only downside might be that the dialogue is very fast at times so if your not paying attention you might miss stuff but then thats your problem as you'd be missing some great moments in a genuinely funny film. A great political comedy. |

The Constant Gardener (2005, R)
Interesting suspense thriller. When a British diplomats wife is found murdered in Kenya, he sets out to find the truth behind it. What he finds is that she has been fighting against a drug company that tests its chemicals illegally on African people with often fatal effects. This find leads to possible danger for the diplomat when he tries to find those directly responsible. An absorbing thriller with good performances from the dependable Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz. |

Rabid (1979, R)
Cool horror and possibly the only rabies based horror i've seen! Its made by David Cronenburg so everythings not what it seems. When a young woman is hurt in a motorcycle crash she is given a new type of surgery, but during her comatose state becomes hungry for blood and starts infecting everyone around her but its when she escapes from hospital that the trouble really begins. This has its gory moments but its the strength of the story, writing and direction that make this good. |
