Wolf Creek (2005,  R)
Wolf Creek
Probably the most tense film I've ever watched. The acting was so believable which made the situation frightening enough, but then wehn you take into account that it is based on true events, you realise what an amazing story it is.

John Jarret plays one of most frightening madman I've seen on screen.

Texas Chainsaw v's A Paradise Lost (Turistos)

VERDICT: An absolute must see
2
Cidade de Deus, (City of God) (2003,  R)
Cidade de Deus, (City of God)
Quite an acceptable tale based on a true story. The storyline does seem to slump somewhat in the middle and I found it hard to maintain my concentration, however, this is quite some story and one that is worthy of telling.

It's worth taking a look at the special features on this one also.
3
Kung Fu Hustle (2005,  R)
Kung Fu Hustle
It took me a few watches to totally appreciate the humour in this film, but once I did I thought it was totally unique. I really love the dancing gangster during the first scene.

Very creative characters especially the landlady. Just a very entertaining and comical film.
4
Dead Man's Shoes (2006,  Unrated)
Dead Man's Shoes
Gritty, emotionally powerful, raw and what British Films should be made of. With an almost frightening reality to it, none of the cast could be faulted in this and the acting was of such a high standard that parts could have been mistaken as a documentary.

VERDICT: An absolute must see.
5
Ne le Dis ā Personne (Tell No One) (2006,  Unrated)
Ne le Dis ā Personne (Tell No One)
This fairly lengthly feature is very well put together, from an enjoyable soundrack, believable acting and storyline which pulls you in emotionally, to a well plotted ended. This film ticks lots of boxes for me and I certainly recommend.

Possibly my favourite French speaking film ? Impressive.
6
Antikörper (Antibodies) (2007,  Unrated)
Antikörper (Antibodies)
Antibodies really exceded my expectations on many levels. Firstly as a fictional story of a serial killer, this has to be the best one since ?The Silence of the Lambs?. It was controversial, made you feel uncomfortable in parts, it was casted well, especially in the case of the serial killer.

In terms of World Cinema, this is way up there with the best, it?s also high up there as a Thriller, as there are twists and turns that left me shouting at the tv screen!

If you enjoy films which cover any of these genres (Serial Killer, World cinema and Thrillers) give it a watch, it?s impressive, you won?t be disappointed.
7
Ghajini (2008,  Unrated)
Ghajini
Much more than just a Bollywood version of ?Memento?, it offers a much more in depth background story which builds nicely to a revenge plot. The occasionally songs throughout the film were entertaining and fit well as do the soundtrack songs.

The flashing back and forth in time provided a good order in which to tell the story and is much different to ?Memento? in that respect also.

Aamir Khan played a an impressive lead role here, with a quite a transformation in character, who with a very athletic physique, provides some enjoyable fight scenes and moves.

Lengthly, but a very enjoyable watch and has instantly become part of my favourite films list.

In the Name of the Father (1993,  R)
In the Name of the Father
The tragic and touching tale of the wrongly imprisioned Guilford Four, plus others, is brought to life by Director Jim Sheridan, with a first class cast, led strongly by Daniel Day-Lewis and Pete Postlewaite.

This true story is a harrowing watch of corruption and cover ups and delivers a strong, powerful storyline.
9
Life Is Beautiful (La Vita č bella) (1998,  PG-13)
Life Is Beautiful (La Vita č bella)
A work of pure genious!!!

Roberto Benigni is fantastic.

This film really shows that humour really can be an international language. One man's persistance and imagination brings him love and an amazing journey for his son, whilst keeping the important messages to convey.

This is a totally original storyline, the characters and beauty of this film are blissfully unique and refreshing. The film synopsis really doesn't do it justice - see for yourselves.

The best film I have seen in a while.
10
Dancehall Queen (1997,  Unrated)
Dancehall Queen
Love this film, anyone into Ragga/Dancehall will love the music. There are some funny bits, with a serious storyline too
11
Audition (Ôdishon) (1999,  R)
Audition (Ôdishon)
Possibly my favourite to date of Takashi Miike's work. It appears to be quite a predictable film, but with this Director you know there is always going to be something a little bizarre, it also has it's fair share of gore.

The beginning was a little drawn out I felt, but I still didn't lose interest and one particular scene really made me jump (which I have to say is something rare for me).

If I could recommend you watching one Takashi Miike film, it will be this one.
12
Oldboy (2005,  R)
13
Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor) (2006,  R)
Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor)
My first Russian film! This one seemed to come well recommended. A very modern day vampire style film, capturing a very different angle to others. I did lose the storyline a bit toward the end, but have to say the effects were terrific, not constant throughout the film, but impressive when they appear.

4 Luni, 3 Saptamâni si 2 Zile (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days) (2007,  R)
4 Luni, 3 Saptamâni si 2 Zile (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days)
A controversial and interesting topic, which unfortunately is incredibly drawn out. It's very well acted and had the content been squeezed down every so slightly, this could have made a brilliant short film.
15
Trainspotting (1996,  R)
Trainspotting
I've lost count how many times I've watched this film now.

The Harsh shocking reality of Danny Boyle's film adapted from the novel by Irvine Welsh, was a controversial revolution at it's release and it still remains (in my opinion) the best film of it's genre, a timeless classic highlighting the problems of this huge epidemic.

The film that brought Ewin McGreggor to fame and by far his best performance to date. All the actors were cast extremely well included Carlyle's portrayal of 'Begsby' proving the hard man doesn't need to be a big mean looking man.
16
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) (2006,  R)
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth)
Very impressed, not what I was expecting tomorrow. Great storyline, magical, unexpected and held me all the way through, pleasantly surprised as I wouldn't normally go for this genre.

VERDICT: Definitely worth a watch, would certainly recommend it
17
Låt den Rätte Komma In (Let the Right One in) (2008,  R)
Låt den Rätte Komma In (Let the Right One in)
I have to admit I watched this film, knowing nothing about it at all and had I known it was a vampire film, perhaps I wouldn?t have watched it with the same enthusiasm, however this is the most naturally acted Vampire film that I?ve seen to date.

Two fantastic child leads and the storyline came across more like a genuine murder tale.

Slightly stretched out in parts, but most certainly worth the watch. The accompanying music is simply beautiful.
18
Ong-Bak (Ong Bak: Muay Thai Warrior) (2005,  R)
Ong-Bak (Ong Bak: Muay Thai Warrior)
Probably the best Martial Arts film ever made. With huge fight scenes, stunning choreography and comical chase scenes.

Tony Jaa has been described as Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li all rolled into one. His speed, agility are a true force to be reckoned with, I hope he goes on to make many more films.

For any fan of Martial Arts, this is an absolute must see, don't be put off by the sub-titles - you'll be pleasently amazed.
19
GoodFellas (1990,  R)
GoodFellas
One of the greatest films ever made, Ray Liotta makes his role of a lifetime appearance leading a star cast of unfaulted actors in Scorsese's masterpiece.

Capturing the highs and lows of organised crime, this film based on the true life story of Henry Hill from being a somebody to a nobody.

VERDICT: I really can't imagine too many people wouldn't have seen this, it's a timeless classic, but to people who haven't seen it because they are not fans of this genre, if you only ever watch one gangster movie, make it this one.

Also for those of you who enjoy a behind the scenes look at the Director's role, the special features are definitely worth a look.
20
Secuestro Express (2005,  R)
Secuestro Express
A very realistic feel of a story of a kidnapping. Impressive actiing all round, in particular Mia Maestro. The kidnapping gang are played by members of one of South America's most popular rap groups 'Vagos Y Maleantes' Gritty and action packed, this film will hold you from start to finish.

Twin Town (1997,  R)
