Slumdog Millionaire (2008,  R)
Slumdog Millionaire
Finally I get to see it! I love watching this type of film, way after all the hype settles down.

Despite everyone ranting and raving about this film (which can sometimes lead to disappointment) I was blissfully unaware of how the storyline would unfold and really enjoyed that aspect of the film.

Dev Patel is a very natural Actor and gave a very enjoyable performance.

Whilst from a British point of view, this seemed to give us some sort of insight of the people on the poverty line in India, I was still able to watch with my Flixster Friend?s (Prith) comment about this not necessarily being portrayed correctly, in mind.

Either way this was fascinating, entertaining and dispite the hype ? nothing like I?d thought it be, in fact better.

Hostel: Part II (2007,  R)
Hostel: Part II
Hostel 2 viewed more as a decent teen scary movie to me than a worthy sequel. With the intensity taken out of it, it was rather predictable and a lot less of an authentic feel than the first.

It was always going to be hard to keep the same standard as the first, but if you watch it as a film in it's own right, you won't be disappointed.

Hostel (2006,  R)
Hostel
Of course the main interest in this film is how much can you stomach. In fairness a strong stomach is needed for the first viewing of this, it doesn't seem as bad on a second viewing.

Surprisingly, there is a rather good story to this as well, so it's not just a film with all gore and no contect.

The intenseness of this film multiplies as you see the journey through the main character's eyes, luring you into a personal journey.

Turistas (Paradise Lost) (2006,  R)
Turistas (Paradise Lost)
Known in the UK as 'Paradise Lost' I saw this in the cinema. 'The Beach' meets 'Hostel' is the way I would describe this film, the plot is built on backpackers in Rio and although it's not violent all the way through, the parts that are, are quite shockworthy, so this film is not for the faint hearted.

Melissa George has certainly come along way from her days in Home and Away and despite the ratio of gorgeous girls to gorgeous guys, this film had it's exciting parts which did outweigh the boring parts.

The Backwoods (,  Unrated)
The Backwoods
The problem with putting people on a pedestal is that they have further to fall when they don't meet expectations.

I have managed to find the one film of Paddy Considine's (and Gary Oldman's come to think of it) that I disliked.

This is totally down to the film itself. It took ages to warm up and despite being advertised as tense, I just found it boring.

I just wanted to fall asleep!!!

The Celestine Prophecy (2006,  PG)
The Celestine Prophecy
The best selling and internationally renowed book written by James Redfield has made a huge impact on followers ? No this film goes nowhere near the excellence of the book (yes, I am a follower) and often comes across corny. The insights themselves tend to blend into eachother a little too much, making them a little difficult at times to seperate if you?re not already familiar with them.

What it does for me however, is allowes me to refresh the insights in a quick fix.

Not recommended unless you have read or have an interest in the book.

The Net 2.0 (2006,  R)
The Net 2.0
Same concept, different person, different situation, different Country. A relatively short film that seems to go on forever. It's very predictable and quite corny, but watchable and of course it's not on par with the first.

City of Ghosts (2003,  R)
City of Ghosts
There were some good elements to this film ? yet it didn?t quite work for me. Enjoyed Matt Dillan (and of course he Directed this film also), loved the not so typical choice of using Cambodia as the backdrop to the story and really enjoyed the music too. Pretty natural performances all around. For me the downfall lay not in the actual plot, but in the actual story of corruption ? I felt it was weak, confusing and slow moving at times, it was more of a working progress.

The Beach (2000,  R)
The Beach
Yet another watch for this beautiful film, a backpackers paradise and a journey of discovery not only geographically, but also from within.

The Beach takes everything you would desire about a paradise island and flips it on it's head.

This will interest anyone who has travelled/backpacked or has the desire to.

I want to see more movies like this ? If anyone has any more recommendations do please let me know.

Under Suspicion (2000,  R)
Under Suspicion
A unique investigation story into two young murdered girls, this is an extremely powerful and controversial part for Gene Hackman, which for me has to be his best role to date.

The filming mainly takes part in one room, which is a hard thing to do, to keep the concentration of the audience, but apart from the first five minutes (just warming up) I was drawn to the story all the way through. There were some clever little flashbacks based on hypothesis which worked really well.

This is my second viewing of the film and I enjoyed it probably more than the first time, as my rating has gone up.

This definitely has my recommendation.

Seven Years in Tibet (1997,  PG-13)
Seven Years in Tibet
Not exactly what I thought this film would be, but having a spiritual side I enjoyed the journey and of course a view of the place I would love to see more than any place in the world.

Accent wise, not a great performance from Pitt, but the experience and story of the film are more important.

The Sound of Music (1965,  G)
The Sound of Music
It?s been a while! Anyone who has visitied Austria can appreciate it?s beauty which is portrayed in the film. A very long film, which brings music, adventure, a partly true story and a political agenda.

A much laughed at film, but I guess you have to have a love of musicals to entertain this.

An enjoyable rewatch, which sparked a lot of nostalgia.

Casablanca (1943,  Unrated)
Casablanca
Through the first half of this film, I couldn?t help wondering what the appeal really was and was beginning to think that it was a very overrated movie, the ending however, changed my whole opinion on the film and was really quite enjoyable.

It was fun to hear all the famous quotes put into context at long last.
