Star Trek - Insurrection (1998, PG)
A mediocre episode of the television series extended into a feature film. The story is un-compelling and the motivation behind the characters is questionable at best. Star Trek works best when the story has a sense of urgency and the characters work off each other to create great dynamic. Unfortunately, "Insurrection" lacks this urgency and is thoroughly anticlimactic all around. It's forgettable and after "First Contact", we were expecting more |

Star Trek - Nemesis (2002, PG-13)
This final voyage of "The Next Generation" crew is not nearly as despicable as some believe it to be. Although not living up to its potential, "Nemesis" boasts an interesting villain, a spectacular space battle and a return of the compelling character dynamic between Picard and Data. As well, the death of Data is truly moving, especially to fans of the television series. Perhaps it's not the film we would have wanted to end "The Next Generation" story, but we could have gotten worse, or another "Insurrection". Yuck. |
