Across the Universe (2007,  PG-13)
Across the Universe 3.5 Stars
I really enjoyed Across The Universe but i cnnot make my mind up if it's because of The Beatles songs or not. If your going to do a new musical you can;t go wrong by picking songs that are already massive hits for the bulk of the movie. The story is also good, not original but suiting to the feel. But did they try and fit as many songs into the movie as possible?

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (AVP 2) 2.5 Stars
I read an interview with the directors prior to view AVP2 and they said they aimed to show what could be done after the let down of AVP. Well i really enjoyed the first and this one well it sucks. THere is no time spent on either the Alien or the Predator and the PredAlien is a pure waste of time. Who truley cares about anyone or anything in this movie?

Alone in the Dark (2004,  R)
Alone in the Dark 2.0 Stars
I agree with most reviews i have read about this movie. It just doesnt work, the action feels cheap although suprisingly the acting isnt all too bad. Uwe Boll has made a pointless movie, which could quite possibly have been half decent.

Reminded me very much of Wonderland, i really enjoyed this movie found the subject matter very drawing and the style of the movie very suiting. The acting in places is real good and well directed.

American Gangster (2007,  R)
American Gangster 4.0 Stars
I am not sure if it ws just me or others felt this way but i found American Ganster very understated. It didnt have the feel of a blockbuster it was slow moving well thought out and write and featured good performances from its main two leads. A great historical story told with Blow like style rather than big screen massive action.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007,  R)
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford 4.0 Stars
The Assassination of Jesse James is a standout western, it's a quiet and thoughtful western. Strong performances in a solid story, No big blazing gun battles more battles of the mind, concience and what to do. Brad Pitt puts in a verystrong performance as the breaking Jesse James and he is matched every inch on screen by Casey Affleck who plays a man torn and devisated by what he feels he needs to do. Great direction and superb score.

Atonement (2007,  R)
Atonement 2.5 Stars
I'm going to go against the grain here and say how massivly disappointed i was with Atonement. Considering the hype and the award recognition i expected a great movie, however its very slow moving and it doesnt flow its too bitty. Also the ending made the whole film a waste of time in my view. Last point Saorise Ronan's Oscar nodconsidering she spends little time on screen... bizarre.

August Rush (2007,  PG)
August Rush 3.0 Stars
August Rush was better than i expected but simply wasnt top quality film making. A good family storyline with characters that on the whole are not too annoying, however it just didn;t fall into place for me. Freddie Highmore in parts was likeable but never lovable and his parents had little screen time not to mention the wastfulness of Terrence Howard's role.

Awake (2007,  R)
Awake 3.0 Stars
I initially expected a horror more than a thriller with Awake, but i think it works better how it is than if it was to go of in another tangent. We are all aware that Hayden Christensen and Jessica Alba are far from being great actors but they do enough in Awake for it to work. Terrence Howard on the other hand is a great actor and seems to be here just for the money more than anything else.

Be Kind Rewind (2008,  PG-13)
Be Kind Rewind 2.5 Stars
After hearing the storyline to Be Kind Rewind i was excited with Michel Gondry at the helm. I was ultimatly let down by the whole film, Jack Black seemed out of his depth and the story didnt seem as magical as it could have been. Mos Def put in a decent performance but was let down by everything else. I think Jack BLack should stick to his pulpy comedies and never try this again.

Bee Movie 2.5 Stars
Another very average animated movie, they seem to just churn out anything nowadays because they know children will see it and demand to go. The story line is different to a usual kids flick it has animals with a stronghold over humans. Generally it does'nt have many fiunny moment the odd one here and there but ultimatly quite dull.

Same of old thing different sport, it's Dodgeball or Talladega Nights with ince instead. Will Ferrell and Jon Heder seem to be stuck in a major rut of same flikcs over and over with no character difference. I so wanted to enjoy this but it wasnt even that funny either.

Blood Diamond 4.0 Stars
Strong leading performancs by Leo DiCaprio and Djimon Hounsou (highly underated actor) but not enough Jennifer Connolly. Story shows a true human growth by Danny Archer (DiCaprio) and captures the difficulty for all levels of South African nationals. Leo is fast becoming the stand out actor of recent years.

Bobby (2006,  R)
Bobby 4.5 Stars
I disagree with others on this site who have said the title is missleading, the title is fitting as all the characters are all linked by their attendance of the pinacle of the movie the 'Bobby' conference. The cast is amazing such an array of talented actors and all put in greta perfomances and deserve credit as a whole rather than individually.

This movie is much better suited to a tv series, it could then be cut up and the funny bits used and highlighted more. The idea isnt a bad one it just doesnt fill as a movie.

The Bourne Ultimatum (2007,  PG-13)
The Bourne Ultimatum 4.0 Stars
Once again in the third Bourne they colate an impressive cast and then use it well to keep this as good if not better than the first two. Non stop actionfinally leading to all the answers that were left open previously. Matt Damon is solid as always as is David Strathairn, sadly some of the other stars get too little screen time but taking nothing away this is great.

The Brave One 3.0 Stars
The Brave One is far better than Death Sentence but is still just a simple revenge/vigilante movie. The performances are just waht you expect from this type of film, they don't blow you away but they are just enough to work. Terrence Howard to me is the stand out and it's about time he got his dues. Neil Jordan once again visits the revenge flick i guess stick to what you know.

It's about time Chris Cooper got a notable leading role, he is the most consistant supporting actor of recent times and can put his hand to anything. Ryan Phillippe does very well in his role but the plaudits will all go to Cooper. A great story told well a really good flick.

Captivity 2.5 Stars
A dull attempt at shock horror which doesn;t really work at all. The film is missing several vital marks a decent twist that isnt too predicatble, a scary badguy and some cheese. Elisha Cuthbert looks good but doesnt have much to work with and what Roland Joffe is thinking directing this god knows.

The most boring James Bond movie to date, really nothing much happened in the movie, very little action and a very basic storyline. Mads Mikkelsen was very under used and i just dont think Daniel Craig can quite carry off the role.

Charlie Bartlett (2007,  R)
Charlie Bartlett 3.0 Stars
Charlie Bartlett tries so hard to be a modern day John Hughes flick that it is so obvious. Every scene and idea is taken from one of the many 80s hits but put together although i did enjoy it the whole drug dealing part takes away from the underloying goodness of all 80s teen flicks. The most interesting character in all of this was Robert Downey Jr's who stoloe the show and should have been the main focus of it all.

Charlie Wilson's War (2007,  R)
Charlie Wilson's War 4.0 Stars
Charlie Wilson's War is based upon a very interested and really good story, directed in traditional Mike Nichols manner it loses a little bit of the story. Dont get me wrong i enjoyed the movie even the slightly bizarre casting of Tom Hanks as sumwhat of a Playboy but Philip Seymour Hoffman steals the show for sure. Maybe a bit too much pizaz and not enough realism.

Cloverfield 4.0 Stars
I was very dubious about Cloverfield the hype the advertising campaign where not much was given away but enough to entice the world. Shockingly Cloverfield with it's back to basics but on a large budget works 100%, it doesn't show a whole lot of the monster and doesn't really focus on it too much either its from the victims point of views and this works very well. Great acting and a truley great movie.

The first thing i must say is that i am imprssed wit the actual presentation of the film. It is portrayed straight faced and iis the most crisp WWE film todate. Acting wise we get what we need and what we expect with an array of characters. The only nagative is the fact the non leads are very 2d in character.

The fact this movie stars John Cusack and Morgan Freeman is what initially entises you to watch it, after about five minutes you realise this is one of the made for the hell of ot not the merit of it flicks. Why waste the time of the actors and viewers with the run of the mill boring tale? No twists really in the should be made for TV movie.

I must admit it didn't seem to hit me as much as many people make out it would, now i'm not taking anything away from either the cast or the movie itself as they are impeccably done. Sam Riley's performance as Ian Curtis is understated and pitch perfect the feel of the movie not over playing it or over showing made it real and true.

Much like his performance in Little Miss Sunshine his performance in Dan really captivates you, the chemistry between himself and Juliette Binoche is amazing and the whole feel of the film is perfect. I watched this and came away thinking if it was trying to be an 80s/90s cheese B-movie it did it really well. If it didnt then ooops but on the whole it was enjoyable the dolls were menacing and the acting was what good. I thought Donnie Wahlberg pulled of a really good bad 80s B-movie cop i think it suited him.

Having heard countless bad reviews of Death Sentence, i didn't believe it would be that bad. I was wrong though this movie is so badly written, the script is terrible. Although some of the action is entertaining even if it is lacking any true grit it just doesn't do what its meant to. A real let down.
