Next
Very good action movie, have a good story, very good casting and accepted direction. but what stops me at 3 stars, is editing and special effects that seems not good enough to get along with cast performance. It also must be mentioned that Cage-Biel relation is not belivable , but do not forget this is action not romance.

Stranger Than Fiction (2006,  PG-13)
Stranger Than Fiction
I have to confess that at first, I expected another average "Ferrel comedy" which is not my fav. but names of Hoffman and Thompson made me watch it, and now, I am Happy!! Brilliant story, Great casting and an acceptable directing and editing. very funny and simple special effects. Ferrell made me to start changing my mind about him. I think it was the first movie I saw with maggie Gylenhaal as leading role in it, she is a real actress in this movie, she doesn't have sex attractions like Johansson or Alba or obvious talent like Julia Roberts but has something special that makes you take her as an old buddy. Hoffman and Thompson are great as usual and Latifah , She is OK, better than other movies of her like Taxi. ~
I really recommend you to watch it.

The Contract (2006,  R)
The Contract
Please take my advice and do not waste your time and money for this movie. If you do so, you will feel sorry for yourself why let them block you in theatre watching a silly nonsense. I am also really sorry for Mr. Freeman he is a talented actor, and this movie will be a black point in his CV.

Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor) (2006,  R)
Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor)
If you like adventure, and mythology, this movie can be a good suggestion to you. It is about the oldest tale in this world, battle between Good and evil. they are equal so a man can set the final destiny of world by joining one of them. casting is acceptable, special effects are wonderful for a non american movie. director knows his job, so, he can make you sit , sometimes grab your seat and watch his product non-stop.
5
The Family Stone (2005,  PG-13)
The Family Stone
If you like the family drama, this movie is yours. Although it has not a great casting, the performers did their job Over average. Directing is standard for a comedy/drama like this and story is very good. Writers try to give us an image from an ideal middle class American family during a Christmas story and it can be told that they among the cast and crew teams have made it. It worth watching once to make you feel better and increase your spirit?s inner peace.
6
All The King's Men (2006,  PG-13)
All The King's Men
Zailian did a well done job in bringing this wise politician's life into motion picture. But I wonder how Anthony Hopkins (sir) accepted to play such a neutral, short and narrow character, maybe personal relations with director is the correct answer?!? Penn is great as always. Sean is a man with idealism in his mind, so whenever he casted for roles of idealists, he doesn?t play, he lives the role. Law is acceptable although he didn?t give much energy to the project and didn?t try as hard as he used to, to make the reporter?s role believable. Patricia Clarkson is only average and sometimes below it. A better casting may save the relation between Law and her character, but here this relation is almost lost. ?Sugar? supposed to be a different character but director and actor failed to make it different. My conclusion is it worth watching once or twice. You can find something about power and its ability to ruin wisdom in this movie
7
Snatch. (2001,  R)
Snatch.
Wow, What a movie! what a comedy, what a directing and editing. It worth watching two or even four times. ( to be honest two times is needed to understand it :) )

Tsotsi (2006,  R)
Tsotsi
I have a friend who lives in Johannesburg for more than 10 years now. She told me that she loves there and its beauty and nature but she hates that for more than 10 times the family has been rubbed. Yes more than 10 times in 10 years for one family. This is the crime rate of this city. In this movie, you do not see the beaty of Johannesburg but lots of violence, crimes, shack lands and miseries are ready there to ruin your inner peace. I suppose although the director comes from south Africa, but he hates his mother land to make such a disgusting image from its capital. if ask me, this is not realism, this is hatrate.

Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others) (2006,  R)
Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others)
This movie tries to show us that you can find good even in devil. It also follow this theme to transfer us some fears and tears people had and felt under seige of Communism and dictatorship rule.
10
Breaking and Entering (2007,  R)
Breaking and Entering
Mingela as director, Binoche , law and Wright Penn as cast, Seems to shape a great team. YES , and they have made a great movie. If you like drama , this movie is for you. For sure this is not another "English patient" but it has its own power points and great seconds. I will always remember this with the scene in which Binoche as a moslem Bosnian mother begged his boy friend (Law) for sake of his son and tried to persuade him by dirty movements desperatley. Binoche's performance is not forgetable in this scene, anybody else could have ruined the whole but She made you cry for justice!
11
The Animatrix (2003,  Unrated)
The Animatrix
This is more interesting than Matrixes movies. I recommend all Matrix fans to see it. It shows origins, history and features of Matrix as the writers had in mind.
12
Code Name: The Cleaner (2007,  PG-13)
Code Name: The Cleaner
An ordinary from comedy genre. Nothing special can be found in it. average performers, average story , average budget and average director. not to mention average jokes.
13
Deja Vu (2006,  PG-13)
Deja Vu
Jerry Bruckheimer is one of the greatest producers in Hollywood; He used to produce some of Blockbusters
Like Top gun, Pirates of Caribbean, Beverly Hills cop, King Arthur and national treasure as well as some unforgettable movies like flash dance, Crimson tide, enemy of the state and bad company. He is the only famous name that made me to watch this and rate this nonsense movie among the other failed projects of Bruckheimer like "Young doctors in love" , "Armageddon" , "Coyote ugly" and Kangaroo jack!?!
Story: Nothing to recognize as logic or science in it. even a physics college guy can tell you that the writers twisted an idea from Einstein's theory and Plank's fantasy of space worm holes, and mix them and add some ideas of their own to it (Like: it needs too much electric power .... if you go back, you will see yourself ... it only shows 4 days 6 hours ago ... and the most amazing one: we need 7 satellites to observe the past and wonderful goggling device) then named it a sci-fiction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do not know how a man like Bruckheimer deceived by this meaningless story. Maybe he should take some physics course in college. Anyway, this story will transferred to a crew who do not interested in (I suppose) with a very limited budget. It shows that nobody believes in what they make.
Casting is awful; Denzel Washington is wondering that he is Tom cruise in ?Minority report? or Clint Eastwood in ?dirty Harry? or Josh Hartnet in Pearl Harbor!!
Directing the project seems a disaster, I want you just look at the scene in that the mad terrorist burned the cop once again , 5 times you see the scientist black woman looking at monitor and twisting his nose means that she is upset by the violence, but she doesn?t turn his face nor close her eyes, why? Because director had some rush from takings to edit like this. You can not find any other logical reason in it, they simply didn?t think of a scientist reaction to burning a man alive.
Special effects are the cheapest in their kind, you can find better in B TV series produced by Bruckheimer himself. The time machine which is built for transmitting light from space worm hole and consumes millions of mega watt energy, has internal taki walki communication system and enough space for Denzel to sit inside and looking at a laser beam which you can see better in any cheap night club .
Some projects are failing because of unpredictable reasons, some others are failing for team mistakes but some others like ?Déjà vu? are born to be failed.
14
The Butterfly Effect (2004,  R)
The Butterfly Effect
Forget the sci-fiction, it was not director's worry to be accurate scientifically, he wanted to show us how little iny, winy, tiny decisions and events in our lives shape what we called destiny. After watching this, you will be more careful about your behaivor and thoughts :)
Story is perfect , Casting is acceptable and directing is totally good. This is a movie to watch more than once.
15
Dog Day Afternoon (1975,  R)
Dog Day Afternoon
I don't know about you, but for me it is impossible to forget Al's performance in this movie. I always associate this movie with a scene in that, Pacino threw the money to the people.
16
Heat (1995,  R)
Heat
You may forget the story , but you never forget the squence in which two giants of acting ( De niro and Pacino) sit together and play a ping pong conversation as cop and theif for the very first time in the motion pictures history
17
Dirty Pretty Things (2003,  R)
Dirty Pretty Things
If you emigrate , if you are a refugee, if you lost your home land, if hunger, war , unemployment, epidemic disease , or government violence pushed you out of the land you have always loved. watch this movie, this is your story.
And if you have always wondered why these idiot foreginers coming here , occupied dirty jobs , live in shacks and eat rubbish, this movie has some answers for you.
18
The Squid and the Whale (2005,  R)
The Squid and the Whale
One of the best movies in family-romance genre. Baumbach make you believe the troubles and headechs of this writer and feel sympathy with his miseries.
19
The Straight Story (1999,  G)
The Straight Story
Perfect road movie. It is my second favorite road movie right after Spilberg's Duel. It also has something beyond its genre, it has sense of humor , love and family in it, some thing feels like nostalgia.
20
Sirens (1994,  R)
Sirens
It is good to see that somebody learns to free his(her) soul from borders and limits not set by almighty God but church. Sirens show us this freedom in a well managed way , full of beatiful landscapes of Australia. Hugh Grant is not so good, maybe the role he performed limited him to this level. but you can find one of the best performances of Tara Fitzgerald in this movie. Duigan proves his ability to make 4 star movies and also shows that he loves his country and Australians way of life. IT MUST BE MENTIONED THAT THIS MOVIE IS NOT FOR KIDS!!!
21
Duel (1972,  PG)
Duel
The best road movie I ever saw.
22
Population 436 (2006,  R)
Population 436
This is what I called neutral movie. It supposed to be a horror movie, but shows nothing more than a bunch of stupid people who try to keep their population fixed even by humiliation, murdering and brain shocks. if it scares you , I have to remind you there are more stupid people who try to keep their society steady in more brutal ways.
23
Seraphim Falls (2007,  R)
Seraphim Falls
Anybody knows why I wasted two hours watching a nonesense ?
24
Letters from Iwo Jima (2007,  R)
Letters from Iwo Jima
A perfect story , filmed perfectly. I suppose with spilberg, Eastwood and watanabe involved, the project must be perfect.
25
Coyote Ugly (2000,  PG-13)
Coyote Ugly
In my opinion, only two groups enjoy this movie. teenager ladies and over 40 men. for me it was not but a bunch of wet girls dancing on the bar. no art, no performance, bad casting and worse directing
26
Eragon (2006,  PG)
Eragon
The story is an average fairy tale. Special effects are great but performances are acceptable. specialy the leading roles casting is bad. I think we have to wait for the next movies to judge the trilogy.
27
88 Minutes (2008,  R)
88 Minutes
What saved this movie from falling into a disaster is nothing but one man's talent. Alpacino's great performance make a difference between this movie and other B series trillers. Director , camera, other members of cast and crew did nothing special . It worth watching only to see Pacino's excellent done job.
28
Epic Movie (2007,  PG-13)
Epic Movie
What on earth made the team of writers to consider themselves comedy writers? They do not have any kind of creativity, they only used the humors in original movies once more and made them badly out of reason. they also added some rudity and nudity and shit to the original ideas and paste them as a movie. It make you itching how some one can make a mistake in choosing his/her carrier as writer. Directors!! are wandering around trying to make head and tails for a rubbish story with cheap special effects.
Poor cast! I can understand how they feel when saying disgusting dialouges.
29
Casino Royale (2006,  PG-13)
Casino Royale
If I wanted to give stars to an action, I should have given 4 stars, but this is a Bond movie and I couldn't find any Bond foundamental elements in it. Bond supposed to have sense of humor even in his battles but here I found only violence and depression. In one scene a man took Bond as Hotel's ganitor!!! Bond , even if comes out of a submarine or involved in a bloody expolsion must remains neat, well dressed and handsome as a prince. but Craig with Tshirts and jeans .... finally I want to say that Bond girls are supposed to be beautiful, blonde and narrow minded , but this Bond girl is a psycologist and phylosopher! No this was not a Bond movie but a good action.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006,  R)
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
This movie must have been banned because of racial insults and dirty , rude and nude jokes about a nation.
31
Man of the Year (2006,  PG-13)
Man of the Year
It worth 2 hours of your life to see what I call a pure hollywood political movie. Story: rubbish, unlogical and irrelevant. Directing: average Casting: good, I like Williams performance as usual but Walken is wandering around on his wheel chair with no space for his abilities. the other actors are doing average . Camera / editing: So so to me
32
Freedom Writers (2007,  PG-13)
Freedom Writers
Swank is not as great as "million dollar baby" , but she is still good. Senario has too many holes and this holes made the director to make the change in people's character and beliefs fast and without proper background.
33
She's the Man (2006,  PG-13)
She's the Man
Who called this a movie? This is a cheap, bad directed, motion picture with no logic , romance or even taste of humor in it.
34
Syriana (2005,  R)
Syriana
If you want to feel middle east, this is the movie
35
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003,  PG-13)
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
Very interesting movie
36
A Good Year (2006,  PG-13)
A Good Year
Scott took a great risk making this movie. It is not his genre. I think I can feel why he made such a movie . he is tired . tired of business, tired of block busters making, tired of metropols, tired of big challenges and have a desire for peace, for childhood, for wine , for Provence vineyards... He is getting old and mid life crisis got him with this question; "Is money making and winning everything???" and his answer by mean of this movie is a big NO. Crowe made it acceptable to have him in a romance movie and the other members of cast are also good. landscapes are very beatiful. Good for Provence redsidents, it will increase tourism rate for them. in total, this movie is a cry for farmers' peaceful life from one of top business men of Hollywood.
37
Once Upon a Time in America (1984,  R)
Once Upon a Time in America
The greatest movie from late Serigio Leone. I have seen american cut (3 hours) and it was fantastic. I watched it more than 20 times. but it must be mentioned that Leone claimed that American distributor has ruined his movie by all means. He showed a SIX hours version in Eruope which was the original movie in his opinion. Up to now, I searched hard but nobody has this version. but anyway it is not a movie to lose
38
Brick (2006,  R)
Brick
At first I rated this movie as "not interested" but some way I had to watch it and it changed my opinion, this is a different movie with different story which reminds me Hammett and noir genre.
It must be mentioned that the product is very slow and full of dialogues which may be disturbing for young auditions.
39
Red Eye (2005,  PG-13)
Red Eye
very well arranged story, with less flaws than other movies in its genre. Flight terror movies. Murphy made a psycho terorrist character with horrible manner and Die-hard :) I can not understand what was the role of Oaks character in the story except for finding the couple in toilet !!! By the way it is more interesting than Flight plan which was a bigger production.
40
Music and Lyrics (2006,  PG-13)
Music and Lyrics
Another Nothinghill but without Julia Roberts talent in it. It is another comedy/romance movie with Hugh Grant in it. He told to some reporter that he hates playing in comedy genre , but it is obvious that like it or not , he knows how to perform in this genre and he is one of the best comedians now. Drew Barymore is not a great co-star for Grant. their chemical reaction is not working in the movie. I think this is a good movie for a peacful saturday night to watch and relax. There is no bad guy or bad event just like what comedy/romance movies supposed to be.
41
Paris Je T'aime (2007,  R)
Paris Je T'aime
This is an episodic movie made by some of greatest directors and its leading role belongs to one of the loveliest cities on earth, Paris. If you have the great experience of exploring Paris ( which I had once) or do not have the chance to be among the 15,000,000 annual visitors, This movie gives you an image of it inspiring by love, some violence and landmarks. Try not to lose it.
42
The Color of Money (1986,  R)
The Color of Money
Continuing the story of Edward "Fast Eddie" Felson from The Hustler? No way!! I suppose they tried their best to recreate "Fast Eddie" but this character they made has nothing in common with 1961 role played by Newman except the actor's name. In no way one can imagine a young man Like Eddie becomes such a weak, low spirit, money lover old man like showed in this 1984 movie. Richard price the screenplay writer seems not to understand the character, the story and the hidden reasons of Walter Tevis, Writer of original novel. In my opinion Price did it for the right price not for the right motive. Cruise as a future star did a good job, acceptable not astonishing. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (|Robin Hood's Marian, 1991) played one of her worst in this movie, an illogical, stupid, narrow minded girl she made when the writer desired to show a talented, smart and quick learner character. My conclusion? This is a wasted great idea of bringing fast Eddie back into life and satisfying fans of ?The Hustler (1961)? . I think the comparison between Box office and budget shows that it is also a financial nightmare for Touchstone Pictures.
43
Bridge to Terabithia (2007,  PG)
Bridge to Terabithia
Wonderful story twist. It is one of the best screenplays I see through these years. It reminded me that Kids movies still can be great movies, IF you have a good story, great casting and an exprienced director like this movie.
44
The Messengers (2007,  PG-13)
The Messengers
Another B-series horror movie. Although it tries to be another "Signs" (M. Night Shyamalan) with some flavor of "the others" and of course getting help from some elements of "Grudge" and "Dark water", It turns to be more like "Scary movie 4" . Stewart is the only actor who takes it serious , the other members of cast and crew knew that it is an ordinary horror movie and spend their energy as much as it needs.
My conclusion? If there is nothing better avaliable, watch it.
45
The Good Shepherd (2006,  R)
The Good Shepherd
First of all, I should confess that I am an admirer of De Niro the actor but I am not very fond of De Niro the director. ?A Bronx story? was a disaster and this movie is not much better than that. I have reasons to believe that De Niro the director doesn?t know his job well;
1- Although casting is great, there is no big challenge for actors in this movie. They are acting, saying their dialogues and showing emotions without facing with something that directors like Scorsese or Spielberg or Sergio Leone bring on them. So, audience can not find a character to feel close to him/her. For instance Julie accepted to play in this movie because she thought De Niro the director is as great as De Niro the Actor but what have she got? A few sentences to say, a few tears to spare and a few close-ups that could have been done by any average B class actress. Or should I mention Matt demon who tried too hard to make a stone face in this movie with hidden emotions, a Spy by all feelings and pains he might have, but the result is nothing more than a cold, heartless and far-away character that nobody cares about him or his destiny.
2- The story, it has too many holes in the plot and in addition, the spy world in cold war era is nothing like what the writers had in mind the result is a world far from true post war world in which an illogical story goes by.
3- The most annoying thing in this movie is editing. Unfortunately it has big problems that an amateur like me can put his finger on them, unnecessary cuts, unpleasant inserts and fades and above all, duplicated scenes. This is not an editing procedure for a movie with this big stars in it.
I don?t want to continue but it can be continued up to a book volume about differences between Bobby the actor who is one of the best of the best in his job and Mr. De Niro the beginner director of average movies.
46
The Invisible (2007,  PG-13)
The Invisible
I tried to count the holes in the plot, but to tell you the truth, it were too much to be counted. To this kind of screen play, add some amateur actors and a beginner editor and mix it with some bugs in directing and you will have a movie like INVISIBLE. Remember ghost movie? What about final destination? And also girl interrupted? Mix them together in an illogical way add some irrelevant psychology and you have something like this movie?s plot. Now hire an American comic book writer, screenwriter, who also sometimes directing some disasters like Blade: Trinity and let him casting and directing the project. What would you expect to have? If you respect your knowledge and time, trust me and do not waste your time on this out of genre movie.
47
The Last King of Scotland (2006,  R)
The Last King of Scotland
All the people of my age or older, remember the terror coming from Uganda and frightened the world in 70?s. Idi Amin was one of the first, but (unfortunately for the world) not the last uneducated , full of hate , paranoid terrorist who comes to power in a country and use its diplomatic service, army , economy and labor force to serve his devil ideology. Giles Foden wrote a book about this international terrorist/ dictator era in format of a story about a young Scot physician who went to Uganda as a humanitarian and become a spy of Amin and been butchered by his guards. Scottish director, Kevin MacDonald did a great job to bring this story on silver screen. Casting of this movie is wonderful and I can not imagine actors better than that to fit exactly in their characters, physically and mentally. Forest Whitaker, funny old Whitaker become a real funny MONSTER in his Amin?s character, he really did a great job in this project and deserved the Oscar that was given to him. The other performers also doing well and make the audience to follow their destiny curiously. Editing and cameras are also great. I think this movie faced with serious rivals in 2006 Oscar, if else, there would be more awards waited for it. Conclusion? Do not miss it.
48
1408 (2007,  PG-13)
1408
This is the best movie of its genre since "the others". Mikael Hafstrom did a great job in picturing such a twisted , complex , new in its kind , and full of surprises story. the thin border between reality and illusion is keeped by director in the most beautiful and professional way and the cast performance glue you to the silver screen until last 10 minutes of movie in which we feel a sudden bad fall into some melancolic sections that are totally irreleavent with genre. there are also some holes in the plot which prevent this movie from being a masterpiece but in summary, it worth watching once or twice.
49
Snow Cake (2006,  Unrated)
Snow Cake
I didn't heard about Autism before, but after watching this movie, I surfed a little about this brain disease and found out that Mr. Evans pointed to a right point; Autism cases, unfortunately , increased grew dramatically in north America in 1996?2005.(6 times more). It is unknown how much, if any, growth came from changes in autism's prevalence but I can guess that the main cause is dramatic chemicals in mothers? bodies.
Anyway, snow cake is about two major brain development disorders, Autism and depression. A depressed man, an autistic woman, a dead daughter and a hyper sex oriented woman in a little Canadian town environment is the structure of snow cake. Interesting yeah? And this good structure is built by an excellent casting and covered by a logical, well researched story and furnished by acceptable directing and trimmed by well done editing. It needs only a little bit of ((it)) to be a master piece, Oscar winning movie.
Weaver has autism, make no doubt about it. She had an alien in her body once and we believe it, she was an ape sometimes ago and we accepted it and now she has autism disorder, by all means and signs of this illness. What a great actress we have here. What a performance! I do not know how, but any physician tells you that this character has autism. Alan Rickman, old professor Snape is a middle age depressed man who comes out of the jail recently. You can not find any sign of Rickman himself in this character; he is simply Alex no more, no less. There is a long way from matrix and its action and love stories to a little town in Ontario, but Carrie Anne Moss has passed this way perfectly, she is a neighbor , caring, kind , patient , lovely , sexy and with her own private life.
I do not want to reveal the story for those who have not chance to watch it and this make obligations for me to discuss more about Snow cake story and casting.
Camera and editing are totally in service of the story and you can not find any ups and downs in movie rhythm or camera movements.
Conclusions? DO NOT MISS IT.

Hors de Prix (Priceless) (2006,  PG-13)
Hors de Prix (Priceless)
After davinci code, Tautou jumps back into her favorite genre, Comedy drama. she came into this genre with her most famouse movie, the Oscar winner Amelli but left it for testing her chance on other genres like drama (dirty pretty things) , Thriller (Da vinci code) , and history ( a very long engagement) . But in my opinion, she is a comedian by all means and I think selling rate of other movies shows that I am not alone with this idea.
Priceless is a very well built project, Casting is acceptable, camera is doing well without unusual movements or distorted angles. Directing is standard and editing is smooth.
story is not that Clice and the plot is well thinking one. I couldn't find holes or flaws in it. the movie is about two young poor french who seek money in elder high class community.
Anyway, I think it worth watching twice.
The only thing is its french language which may bothering you. but the copy I saw has a very good subtitle
51
The Reaping (2007,  R)
The Reaping
I can not understand how much do they pay to persuade someone like Oscar winner hillary Swank and talented Annasophia Robb to get involved in a loose project like this and perfom as narrow , unlogical , limited characters of this non sense story.
52
Vacancy (2007,  R)
Vacancy
What was this nonsense? That is the question I've asked myself several times after watching this movie. To tell you the truth, I can not make any difference between badman of this movie the motel keeper and the director of this disgusting movie. They both make rubbish violence raping movies to sell !!
53
Code Unknown (Code inconnu: Récit incomplet de divers voyages) (2000,  Unrated)
Code Unknown (Code inconnu: Récit incomplet de divers voyages)
Want to watch a different movie? This is the one. Code unknown has everything a good one has but in a different way. from its name to its plot to its editing , everything seems different. but to consider this difference in a good way or bad, I think it is totally depends on your mood and taste for movies.
I like the way thing are going in this movie. Short unfinished stories mixed together with no strong connection between episodes. It is a movie which doesn't fit for passive observer. You have to follow closely , thinking , find out relations and even some times forecast the future to keep up with the Story!!!
I recommend this to all my friends who seek for a new taste. DO NOT forget that this movie uses several languages from English to Savahili ! Search for subtitled copy.
54
Resident Evil: Extinction (2007,  R)
Resident Evil: Extinction
To tell you the truth, the second movie of this series disappointed me and I decided to stop following. It seems that I was not alone in this idea and the sound of protests penetrated the walls of producers? office. They changed their policy and hired a very good director and crew for this one. The change management really works. The ?Extinction? one is as good as first one, not to mention that it is far beyond my expectations based on the ?Apocalypse?.
Jovovich is a human again in this 3rd movie (too many super girls she is actually), but don't worry, you can still enjoy tons of well built actions and mass killing of zombie humans and birds!!! You have also a monster to be terminated in this one, but in addition you can find some very believable human relations, a bunch of good sceneries and also a promise to have a believable, logical fiction.
The most important change in this one is noticeable increase in out-door, day sections of movie. Old narrow, dark tunnels are replaced by Nevada desert lands and under ground research center is replaced by abandoned Las Vegas.
If you are a fan of zombie movies, It really worth watching.
55
3:10 to Yuma (2007,  R)
3:10 to Yuma
I don't see the 1950's movie, and can not compare them, but this one is an acceptable western movie about a soldire (Bale) a Gangster (Crowe) in a western enviorment including Cattles , Railroad, rubberies, gun shots , Indians and Pinkertons !!!
Story is a very good old classic one and screen play is something classic mixed with modern psychology.
Casting of this movie is weired but astonishing. This is first time I see "Crowe" the Gladiator, as a Bad man, this character is as bad but intellect as Hanibal Lecture in his own time. If some one told me that "Bale" is a good choice for a former civil war soldire , Rancher character, I would have say "hell, No" . but it seems that I was wrong. he played it very beliveable and effective.
Directing , editing and camera are in old fashion in this movie, and I think it is OK , ater all, this is a western not an action.
If you like departed Sergo Leone's spagetti westerns, this movie reminds you those.
I think it worth 2 hours of your life.

Another "Casavetes" movie, just like the other movies of his, in this one also the most impotant thing is humans and their problems in a modern society.
My Iranian friends who knows "Hatami Kia" and his movie "Glass Agency" do not need to watch this one. even dialouges are same.
I do not know how ,but I feel Casavatese saw Hatami kia's movie before making this or vise versa. Or maybe I am wrong and these movies are similar just because humans are humans and regardless of their nation , they have similar problems.

Black Book (Zwartboek) (2007,  R)
Black Book (Zwartboek)
I can not write a review on this movie , because of my feelings about the story. Jewish people suffer too much during world war II and afterwards. I didn't watch this movie , I have felt it, I felt the young , wealthy jewish girl's misery and torture.
When her family murderer touched her, It was me who cried inside , my soul has a protest , not to this movie , to the history, to the mankind. And I have an unanswered question, why? why should our fathers wrote such a bloody pages in history? why shall we kill, jailed , torture and hate other humanbeings only because of %0.01 difference in our gene map?!? I do not expect to find a proper answer to this question, but I hope some day , God will teach us how similar we are, how meaningless is genocide and how foolish is hatrate of mankind groups to the others.

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002,  R)
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
This is a movie about pyschology in my opinion. The story is about a 2 face man (Sam Rockwell) who has a dark side as a CIA killer and a regular face as a TV talk show director.
Movie is actually based on a Book named "unauthorised autobiography" by Chuck Barris. Chuck tells his life story in this book . He also claimed that he was not only a TV game show creator but also an assassin for CIA during 70's and 80's.
The movie cleverly doesn't follow the path of proving Barris story truth or false, but the director chose the way lead to analysis such a character who enjoys entertaining as much as killing. I think the main aim of director (Mr. Famous Clooney) was to find the similarity between TV waves and shooting bullets!?!
He searched for an answer to this question; " Who is more dangerous, a man who distort millions of brains of audience by nonsense shows and games by TV or a man who shatters a few human brains by a silent gun???"
I really like the way Clooney tells his story. His casting is wonderful , as we expect from a professional actor. all the actors and actresses fill their character as if it was tailored for them. Screenplay is GREAT, furnished by smooth, funny dialouges and narrations written by Charlie Kaufman. I think Mr. Clooney owes Kaufamn too much in this project.
You will find cameras totally acceptable in this movie. This comes from hireing a professional cinematographer like Sigel. I always appreciate Sigel for his interesting camera angels and close-ups.
In conclusion, I think every adult intellectual who is interested in psychology must watch this movie once. It is not a masterpiece but it is a great movie.

The Color Purple (1985,  PG-13)
The Color Purple
If you like melodrama, this movie is one of the best among this genre. But I think the director tries harder than it needs to make you cry.

Ensemble, c'est tout (Hunting and Gathering) (2007,  Unrated)
Ensemble, c'est tout (Hunting and Gathering)
Want to see a fairy tale without any magic or miracles in it? If yes, this "haunting and Gathering" movie is tailor made for you.

A young, pretty, miserable office cleaner with a proficiency in surface cleaning who lives in a freezing loft.
A young aristocrat , with a angel heart and an elfish face who wants to become a performing actor and lives in the same building but in a huge apartment with too many warm rooms.
And a young cook, poor, anxious, aggressive and rude who is sheltered by the angel wise aristocrat and has a granny lives her last days in a poorhouse while she owned a beautiful garden full of pets.
Sounds like a love triangle story, isn?t it? But the answer will be no. this is not about love fights or competitions, this movie is telling us a story about short distance between happiness and misery, filled only by friendship, remise and sacrifice.
Story plot is well written and smooth, no harsh bumps and turns in it. But at some points, writer got rid of twists by illogical events.
Casting is good, Tautou is brilliant as always, fill the scenes with her cute little smile and shiny eyes, Laurent Stocker is what it means to be, a falling-to-earth angel. Françoise Bertin is one the best grannies ever and Guillaume Canet is well fitted in role.
Camera and directing is standard in its genre.
I recommend you to see it once. This movie is a great cure to your accumulated tensions.
The only thing that may bother,is its french language which leads us to find a copy with subtiltle.

El Orfanato (The Orphanage) (2007,  R)
El Orfanato (The Orphanage)
In my opinion , this movie is the best in its genre after "the others". Story has great twists and plot is unpredictable.
Casting is brilliant and camera did a great job.
Project in total , is a success , and I am sure that you will enjoy watching this.

The Brave One (2007,  R)
The Brave One
Disaster, this is what I called this movie. aged Jodie Foster is the worst casting one can imagine for a psycho killer woman. story is full of holes and bugs with many ilogical twists.
No sympathy arouses for a woman who once was a victim of street violence and now is the menace.
Also you hate when you see a law man , a cop gives his police force gun to a serial killer to help her make a revenge!
The project supposed to be a psychology analysis of street violence and its consequences, but it turned out to be a disgusting set of bloody murderings.

Mamma Mia! (2008,  PG-13)
Mamma Mia!
Fabulous , unbelieveable , interesting.
A movie in appreciation of Musical genre and pop songs and The pop music band forever : ABBA
Casting is the backbone of this movie. Adapted for the screen from a stage version , Mamma mia has nothing more to its roots than actors. Chosen by Meryl strip, the cast perform a well done job in dancing , singing , showing pure fun and heart breaking romance.
Box office shows that there are too many people who remember ABBA and their magic , cherish their pop art and love their own memories of good times rendered with the band?s music.
Mamma mia! The movie , shows that musical still alives.
