1
Runaway Bride (1999,  PG)
Runaway Bride
The narating start of the movie was excellent, for those who enjoy the literary aspects of life would certainly have enjoyed this. The story of a run away bride that is brought to Geres ttention when he is desperate in a bar to submit an article presents him into an unfamiliar situation, where he enters the life of Maggie Carpenter. Its another one of those movies where you need a big bag of popcorn and someone to veg out with in front of the telly.
2
Pretty Woman (1990,  R)
Pretty Woman
This is one of the few reasons why i have written in the about me section that i am a hopeless romantic. Julia Roberts is beautiful and Richard Gere..ah, he is my fairy tale. This was a great movie to watch not soon after a breakup, it portrays love in a situation not thought to be imaginable.
3
Constantine (2005,  R)
Constantine
This movie immediately went into my 'all time favourite movie' list inside my head. There is a certain thrill about watching movies that deal with death and its involvement of some higher power, such as hell or even heaven. The fact that keanu reeves is a really cool actor adds more flavor to the plot. Exorcism..ahh, what to believe..what not to believe..where exactly does science come in in all of this? who knows..but the action is pretty good.
4
Donnie Darko (2001,  R)
Donnie Darko
This is one seriously messed up movie about an equally messed up kid. Donnie Darko sees an apparently imaginary friend who looks like a rabbit thats just climbed out of its coffin. The story line is kind of confusing but as it progresses, it becomes apparent why it happend the way it did. A definate must see.
5
The Matrix (1999,  R)
The Matrix
This is easily one of the best movies i have ever seen. Keanu Reeves was perfect for this role. Thomas Anderson(reeves) lives a double life, his ordinary life and his life as a hacker, Neo. Morpheus recruits Neo into the Matrix and thus, the search for 'The One' is over. I got abit fed up hearing about 'The One' without anyone really explaining what the heck it was supposed to mean but other than that, there was an inarguably strong storyline about Agents vs Matrix.

The effort put into this movie was incredible. the CGI characters, locations, and events, stunts. In the introductory developments of what became the famous Bullet Time sequence, visual effects supervisor John Gaeta and director of photography Bill Pope (I) constructed alot of prototypes to try and create the effects the old fashioned way. Their earlier creations for the camera would be lead around the action at a tremendous speed, but after many failed tests they opted for computer graphics, which meant writing an entirely new program for the effect. Worth the time and effort. Casting was great.

Neo walks through a metal detector in the lobby and is approached by a security guard after it goes off]
Security guard: Could you please remove any metallic items you may be carrying, keys, loose change...
[Neo opens his trench coat to reveal dozens of guns underneath]
Security guard: Holy shit!
[Neo knocks the guard down and shoots the other guards]
6
The Matrix Revolutions (2003,  R)
The Matrix Revolutions
It carried on a little far fetched in this last sequence but the technological advancement and potrayal of the matrix deserves an applause.
7
Top Gun (1986,  PG)
8
Pulp Fiction (1994,  R)
Pulp Fiction
I really enjoyed watching this movie play itself out. The casting was excellent, the stoty line, the visual and sound effects and the best of all, were the superb lines that were used in this movie. Death isnt an issue, every one feels good about screwing each other over and its perfectly alright. nothing new right? This a really awesome movie, you must buy your own copy cz this is a keeper if you collect classics.
9
Fight Club (1999,  R)
Fight Club
Wow, im shocked..i didnt expect this movie to be actually as good as it was claimed to be. Brad Pitt as Tyler Durden delivers a spectacular performance, probably the performance of his career, as a soap manufacturer who is mutitalented..and bored. Durden meets Norton, an insomniac, problematic and severely misguided guy in life and decides to have fun. The story has an interesting and unanticipated twist..which makes it sooooo much better to watch.

The quality of this movie just blows your mind, the amount of details, you just gotta pay attention from the very begining. My favourites are the lines from the movie, somewhat paradoxical yet humorous. This has got to be on of the best movies ever made.I have never been much of a Brad Pitt fan but this movie forces me to see him in a different light.
10
Twilight (2008,  PG-13)
Twilight
For all those not familiar with the works of Stephanie Meyer, this movie does not disapoint her work. I am most impressed with the casting of this movie. The most essential component was how the actors embraced their characters and made it their own. Robert Pattison, although i was abit apprehensive about him, proved to deliver duly. A demon, attracts his prey Bella, played by Kirsten Stewart. I cannot tell you how talented she is in this movie. The casting of the rest of the folk, the Cullen family and the Blacks made the movie even more magical. Makeup and special effects, the scenery, the background was carefully chosen and did not dissapoint as anticipated by me.

First half of the movie moves tentively foward, leaving the viewer in doubt whether if its going to continue the same tune but when the baseball match begins, the story immediately rises with the action. I absolutely loved this movie. The camera work could have been improved. The stunts were carelessly done, very messy but could have been easily improved. Does justice to the actual story. A collectors item.
11
Romeo + Juliet (1996,  PG-13)
Romeo + Juliet
'Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
Take all myself.

If you arent into the whole experience the Shakespearan era kinda thing, then this movie is for you. Dicaprio and Danes as Romeo and Juliet do not dissapoint at all. And its set in a modern day scenery so dont watch this with a set old fashioned mind..they have guns too! The actual lines from the novel isnt compromised and doesnt dissapoint too badly.

Grosse Pointe Blank (1997,  R)
Grosse Pointe Blank
John Cusack stars in this outrageously funny action comdey movie as an assasin that kills on contract. He returns to his past in Grosse Pointe for a high school reunion and his high school sweetheart Minnie Driver. The couple give the romance in this movie a witty and fresh tone that mixes brilliantly with darker aspects(contract killing). Dan Aykroyd plays the rival contract killer and blends in well with the rest of the outstanding performance of the cast. Highly enjoyable movie.

Debi: So, is there a Mrs. Mysterio?
Martin Q. Blank: No, but I do have a very nice cat?
Debi: Not the same.
Martin Q. Blank: Well, you don't know my cat, it's very demanding.
Debi: It? You don't know if it's a boy or girl?
Martin Q. Blank: I respect its privacy.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1999,  R)
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Guy Ritchie displays an extraordinary talent at bringing the visual art of theatre back to life with his work in this movie. The pyrotechnic camera work is excellent for animating this twisted and complicated plot. This movie is almost like a satire, making a mockery out of society. The villains in the movie are made to be menacing and fiercesome but are actually quite silly and ironically, they dont kill anyone. This movie is also heavily laden with style and british humor that only the brave hearted will understand and appreciate.

The casting was excellently chosen, introducing the world to Jason Statham. The plot is close to perfection with the right balance of humor, complexity and thrill to keep the audience glued to their seats. Four friends decide to play a game of high stakes poker with a gangster and end up owing alot of money that needs to be paid back as soon as possible, thus beggining a theiving quest to attain that money. The ending can not be faulted as it comes together beautifully. Admittedly Ritchie's work reminded me alot of Quentin Tarantino's work, i have to say that Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is highly inventive and carries its own complex flair that makes it more original.

Eddie: Oh, and if Tom or anyone else for that matter feels like givin' them a bit of a kickin', I'm sure it won't do any harm.
Soap: Yeah, little bit of pain never hurt anybody. If you know what I mean. Also, I think knives are a good idea. Big, fuck-off shiny ones. Ones that look like they could skin a crocodile. Knives are good, because they don't make any noise, and the less noise they make, the more likely we are to use them. Shit 'em right up. Makes it look like we're serious. Guns for show, knives for a pro.
Tom: Soap, is there something we should know about you?
Bacon: I'm not sure what's more worrying. The job or your past.

Slumdog Millionaire (2008,  R)
Slumdog Millionaire
What an accurate potrayal of the squatter life in this movie, the poverty, the violence, the desperation behind survival was captured well by Boyle. Despite the dark outook created by that, the movie managed to shine through with joyous moments. The three main characters played an important role, which was likened to the three musketeers. The story is about a boy who grew up in the slums and came to enter a quiz to which he knew the answers, and how he came about to knowing those answers.

This is truly a beautiful movie with little flaws.

You think I don?t wake up every morning wishing I didn?t know the answer to that question? If it wasn?t for Ram and Allah, I would still have my mother. - Jamal

Sin City (2005,  R)
Sin City
Violent, stylishly presented and a work of art. The visual artists have truly outdone themselves, after the initial scene that in which most of the filming was done in black and white, the redest of all reds was seen.. the effect captured by that scene alone was one of awe. This is full of blood, gore, nudity and crude humor. It is understandable why the critics have labelled this as a gore fest. Marv, played by Mickey Rourke is out to seek retribution for the death of an 'angel'/ whore that showed him kindness. The monster Marv was played amicably. The strength of the casting was evident by the intense curiousity that persued me throughout the entire movie. Dwight- Clive Owen, Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, Alexis Bledel, Rosario Dawson, Elijah Woods and Devon Aoki were just brilliant. They brought to life their character with dedicated effort. If you arent familiar with the Frank Miller based comic like me, you are in for a higly unpredictable treat;

Shellie: If you're gonna slug me, just go ahead and get it over with, you sick bastard.
Jack Rafferty: There you go, lying about me again in front of my friends. I have never hit a woman in my life.
[Jackie-Boy hits Shellie in the face]

Strong suggestions of violence, and intent on fully delivering that violence;

Marv: I've been framed for murder and the cops are in on it. But the real enemy, the son of a bitch who killed the angel lying next to me, he's out there somewhere, out of sight, the big missing piece that'll give me the how and the why and a face and a name and a soul to send screaming into hell.

And lastly, crude humor.

Priest: ...ask yourself if that corpse of a slut is worth dying for.
Marv: Worth dying for.
[shoots priest]
Marv: Worth killing for.
[shoots him again]
Marv: Worth going to hell for.
[shoots him again]
Marv: Amen.

Robert Rodriguez has delivered us a truly superb film experience.

Watchmen (2009,  R)
Watchmen
I hate to say it, but this was an epic success for me. Proper review pending...

The Usual Suspects (1995,  R)
The Usual Suspects
The millon dollar question, who is Keyser Soze? from what i gathered.. "a myth, a spook story that criminals tell their kids at night" well at first anyway.

Plot: A crime is committed, and five suspects are roped in for questioning.

Gabriel Byrne is Dean Keaton, the corrupt cop who is trying to go straight. He is the most dodgy character, so naturally, the mind thinks he is the most plausible suspect. Kevin Spacey, plays Verbal Kint, his performance as the cripple member of the highly capable team deservedly won him his first Oscar. The other Oscar from this went to the screen writer Christopher McQuarrie for the sheer brilliance of the screenplay. Benicio Del Toro, Kevin Pollak, Chazz Palminteri and Pete Postlethwaite, kudos to all of you for your contribution to my newly favorited movie. Apart from the brilliant cast, the way the film is delivered is very favorable to me. The story is delivered mostly in narration by Verbal, in a series of flashbacks in a cops office. To be perfectly honest, the narrative makes the movie experience even better.

Verbal: The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he did not exist. And like that... he is gone

This movie relies heavily on how much attention you pay and what stereotypes you form from your own deductions. Although i figured out the end before it came, it was amusing to watch the complexity roll out slowly as the story developed through its characters.

Kobayashi: One cannot be betrayed if one has no people.

Verbal: McManus came to us with the job, Fenster got the vans, Hockney supplied the hardware, I came through with how to do it so no one got killed, but Keaton... Keaton put on the finishing touch. A little 'fuck you' from the five of us to the NYPD.

Convince me.

The Departed (2006,  R)
The Departed
Oliver Queenan: We have a question: Do you want to be a cop, or do you want to appear to be a cop? It's an honest question. A lot of guys just want to appear to be cops. Gun, badge, pretend they're on TV.
Dignam: Yeah, a lot of people just wanna slam a nigger's head through a plate-glass window.
Billy Costigan: I'm all set without your own personal job application. Alright, Sergeant?
Dignam: What the fuck did you say to me, trainee?
Billy Costigan: [to Queenan] With all due respect, sir, what do you want from me?
Dignam: Hey asshole, he can't help you! I know what you are, okay? I know what you are and I know what you are not. I'm the best friend you have on the face of this earth, and I'm gonna help you understand something, you punk. You're no fuckin' cop!

Chocolat (2000,  PG-13)
Chocolat
A beautifully crafted story with Juliette Binoche pulling off her character as a young, single mother being guided under the spirit of her own mother to make a century old chocolate recipe. I enjoyed this movie, another one of those classics that i will forever watch over and over again..

A Clockwork Orange (1971,  R)
A Clockwork Orange
''Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose he ceases to be a man.''

Insane. but brilliant. Kubrick gives us a decent enough masterpiece. A clockwork orange has plenty to offer in terms of disturbing, horrifying violence, perverse acts, extreme emotions and all in all, plain weirdness. This is a story about a young man names Alex, played by Malcolm McDowell who is disturbed and very facinated with sex and all its appeal. He makes a very entertaining villain indeed. Faithful Wikipedia tells us that the title is taken from an old Cockney expression, "as queer as a clockwork orange", and alludes to the prevention of the main character's exercise of his free will through the use of a classical conditioning technique. A Clockwork Orange, which was originally released in 1973 intially had a R rating, had been banned from Britain for close to thirty years. Arent you curious as to find out why?

Alex: No. No! NO! Stop it! Stop it, please! I beg you! This is sin! This is sin! This is sin! It's a sin, it's a sin, it's a sin!
Dr. Brodsky: Sin? What's all this about sin?
Alex: That! Using Ludwig van like that! He did no harm to anyone. Beethoven just wrote music!
Dr. Branom: Are you referring to the background score?
Alex: Yes.
Dr. Branom: You've heard Beethoven before?
Alex: Yes!
Dr. Brodsky: So, you're keen on music?
Alex: YES!
Dr. Brodsky: Can't be helped. Here's the punishment element perhaps.
