The Honeymoon Killers (1970, R)
leonrad kastle only made one film of note and this is it. there are flaws, but only because of his almost non-existent budget. he takes the real-life story of two spree killers and their co-dependent relationship and makes it play like the world series. shirley stoler gives the career-defining performance as martha, second only to mme. falconetti in 'the passion of joan of arc'. and tony lo bianco gets his own career off to a great start as the sleazy ray fernandez. and if you look fast you can see doris roberts in a small role! |

Dodsworth (1936, Unrated)
this film is based on a sidney howard adaptation of the sinclair lewis novel. while it's mostly about a retired magnate and his restless wife, for me it's a great story about the perils of romantic folly. it also is a great testament to finding true love at an age where society thinks you're not worthy. |

The Constant Nymph (1943, Unrated)
joan fontaine is probably the only actress that could play meek young women and awkward lady-child type characters. it must have had something to do with her ability to subsume her own physical beauty yet let an inner light shine out through the acting. she is at the peak of her acting powers in this film as she is in 'letter from an unknown woman'. |

Letter From an Unknown Woman (1948, Unrated)joan fontaine was star and co-producer of this lush, sob-filled film about a woman that loves once and none too wisely in her short life. louis jourdan makes a handsome object of desire. fontaine wears some of travis banton's last designs for film in this piece, which is directed with a wonderfully swooshing romantic feel by max ophuls. |

Can't believe I'd seen so few of these; and I consider myself a fan of old films. Going through your list, I also wondered about other greats missing, like: Anna Karenina, Roman Holiday or Casa Blanca. But I guess, unrequited love doesn't qualify as romantic in your book. Can't wait to see some of these.
