Dawn of the Dead (1979, R)
Dawn of the Dead is one of few films that lives up to its name and often exceeds expectations. For a film released in 1979 it really is ahead of its time in terms of horror techniques and thrills. This certainly will age well and be remembered for a long, long time. It is evident when comparing both Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead how much Romero has developed his style. What do you get when you put Romero's talent and zombies together? I'll tell you what you get; a masterpiece. The underlying relevance to consumerism is also interesting and gives an insight into the mind of a visionary. |

Night of the Living Dead (1968, Unrated)
Classic Romero. To me this is the very film that put zombie horror in a genre of its own. Without even a whisper of the word zombie. |
