The Thing Called Love
Really love this film. I think it was nearly one of River Pheonix's last performances and a stunning one at that. As usual he was brilliant. RIP. Samantha Mathis does a great job as does Sandra Bullock. Dermot Mulroney gives a solid performance. The plot is great and really enjoyable. A must see for everyone.

The Super Mario Bros. (1990,  PG)
The Super Mario Bros.
Loved this film as a kid. Turns out i'm just as much of a geek now as I was then because I watched it again recently and I think I loved it just as much as my immature and easily amused former self. Okay, so not completely former, maybe just smaller.
I fell in love with John Leguizamo and Samantha Mathis after seeing this. I believe it was probably the first film of theirs I ever saw, as I was 3 when the film was released and I must have been about 5 or 6 when I got round to seeing it.
Even after all these years I still have a soft spot for both actors. Their performances were nothing special but they were honest so it made watching them very enjoyable.
Bob Hoskins is always brilliant and pretty much embodies any role he's given. This was no different. Every time I see Mario now I just think Hoskins. As if that cartoon character came after this because that's the order I was exposed to it.
Dennis Hopper is always excellent as villainous characters and in this case it isn't any different. He scared the shit out me as a kid. Can't say he had the same effect now but he did a very good job.
For those unaware the plot follows the brothers who travel to another dimension where Daisy has been kidnapped. In this other dimension the people have descended from dinosaurs instead of apes. Here Hopper is trying to merge the dimensions so as to rule over both the reptiles and the mammals. Of course Mario and Luigi step in and make life difficult for him.
What amused me about the film was the way it ended. The last scene you are given a suggestion that there will be a sequel. Which of course there was not. Makes you smile when that is clearly what was intended and it never happened.
It's a very funny film and a guilty pleasure of mine. Brings back good childhood memories. I suggest checking it out for a bit of fun.

Really good film. Christian Bale is fantastic. I however, don't think i'm rating it fairly. I would like to read the book and then watch the film again before re-review it because i think there is more to this film than can be seen with one viewing.
