magnificent samurai epic and one of the finest films ever made. not only a classic but an endlessly entertaining one. everyone MUST SEE this film; no excuses

excellent drama about a conflict between a shogun and his vassals. mifune is great as the convention bound samurai who takes a stand.

kurosawa's epic king lear with some of the most beautiful cinematography ever. saturated in amazing colors

like a mad tragic japanese prisoner of zenda. beautifully filmed and the final scenes are heartrending

yes it's better than a fistful of dollars :D i just wish i'd seen it first! love the soundtrack too. kurosawa successfully sued leone for 15% of the worldwide gross and made more from the lawsuit than he did on this film apparently

i enjoyed this as much as yojimbo. it's a whole lot of fun. mifune is born to play comedy i think. such a ham but you can't take your eyes off him

outstanding! this tale of a psychotic samurai ends rather abruptly as it was meant to be pt. 1 of a trilogy. we can only imagine how that would have turned out but pt. 1 is pretty freakin fantastic. awesome performance by tatsuya nakadai, many incredible fight scenes; the sword is the soul! i wish i could give it more stars :((

the first in the series of lone wolf and cub, the story of a shogun's executioner forced to flee with his infant son after the murder of his wife. he takes work as a hired assassin, with baby cart in tow, until he can seek revenge. lots of fun, blood and child endangerment!

i mostly enjoyed it but what was up with the hoedown at the end? tres bizarre

this one is better than kitano's :) why don't they quit messin with him? he seems like a nice guy!
