Brilliant, high-concept, hyperkinetic, and heart-stopping. Still my favorite movie ever. The stark black-and-white imagery, the music, everything is perfect. I can watch this any time and never get bored.

Darren Aronofsky is my favorite director EVER. It's a romance first, sci fi film second, but it excels in both and is one of the most beautiful things I've ever watched...

One part love letter to the 80's. One part heightened teenage drama. One part mindfuck high-concept sci fi head trip. This movie will get inside you and refuse to leave.

It's so violent and loud and disturbing, you just can't look away. I love it oh so very much...

Worth sitting through for the Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite sequence alone.

I'll admit, I love this movie simply because it's an insane, funny sci fi flick with Bruce Willis in it, and because Milla Jovovich is insanely hot and mostly naked. I think those are good reasons, though!

Another rewritten review. This is probably the best near-future dystopia movie ever, and it is the first movie I've ever seen that made me constantly forget to breathe. It's a film with both a brain and a heart, and works with both...

It's not the quintessential cyberpunk flick like everyone says it is, but it's still pretty good.

Mindbending, funny, and heartbreaking all at once...

The movie that set out and succeeded to turn the zombie movie genre on its fucking head, and succeeded. Excellently filmed and heart-pounding.

Crazy editing, crazy plot, just a whole lot of crazy, but it's good.

| 13 |
Watched it for the crazy special effects and hallucination sequences.

Klaatu barata nikto! Another sci fi classic.

It's a shame the others suck so much.

Worth watching for the disturbing violence and crazy moments.

Great animation, not a terrible cyberpunk flick, either.

Classic sci fi entertainment, despite being a little dated. I wish all science fiction movies were like this.

Very pretty, very cyberpunk, with a great soundtrack, but a little dull...Just a little...

Unnervingly creepy, a sci fi classic.

Great, classic giant monster movie.

Tons of fun, filled with retro sci fi goodness.

Smart, sci fi action.

Filmmakers took a pretty neat sci fi concept and ran with it. It wasn't quite as exciting as it led on to be, but it was still good.

The best Star Wars film EVER.

I really really liked it. I mean, I'm still more of a Beast Wars fan, and I was waiting for Optimus to say "ONLY TOONAMI!", but Shia LeBouf DIDN'T get on my nerves, it was actually REALLY funny, and the action scenes were damn impressive. My only REAL complaints are that Starscream didn't get to do enough stuff (though what he did WAS awesome), Megatron should've had a lot more screentime, and well, the climactic final showdown could've been a lot better. I am quite satisfied though, and await more giant robot movies to grace the silverscreen while firing missiles through buildings...

Ever wanted to erase the memory of an ex completely? A smart, slightly twisted, but perfect romantic comedy that hits very close to home for me.

More like 1984 or Brave New World than Star Wars, why the hell did Lucas stop making movies as great as this? I would've given it an even higher score if it weren't for George's stupid habit of going back and putting in crappy CGI parts that look like something out of a bad PS2 game...

Ow, my head. It's like Tetsuo the Iron Man, only not as fast and with something resembling an actual plot. If you're a fan of Japanese cyberpunk and also a medical BDSM fetishist, then this is the movie for you!

Hooray for 80's excess! Animated sex, violence, and ROCK 'N' ROLL. Actually, the hairmetal soundtrack sucked. The animation was okay, but the creativity shown in all the various stories kept it from being too horrible. I could've done without the animated nipples, though.

As far as I know, it's the first science fiction movie ever, and the first movie to feature a robot. I paid for a 9-movie DVD set just to get this. The music is pretty bad, and the first hour of it is just kind of meh, but things kick into high gear at the start of the second hour and it just doesn't slow down afterwards. Classic.

The first (and much better) half of Grindhouse. I have a feeling this is the movie Robert Rodriguez had been wanting to make ever since he became a filmmaker, because it's the best thing I've seen him do. Incredibly gory, incredibly entertaining, and just a lot of cracked-up fun.

Let's get this out of the way: The plot is full of holes and seems like something I tried to make up back in 8th grade. Also, there is nothing original here, the movie seems to take things from the Matrix, Sky Captain, Final Fantasy VII, Star Wars, Metropolis, and maybe even Power Rangers.
That said, it is still pretty entertaining, with hyperkinetic action, crazy visuals that make use of a LOT of CG, and a pretty rocking soundtrack. I suppose you could say it's the very definition of a popcorn-muncher. Just sit back and let it wash over you.

This movie does not deserve the rating I gave it, let that be known, but I loved it. A meteor shower one night blinds the greater majority of mankind and spread spores that grow into walking, gas-spewing, man-eating plants! Hokey acting, hokey science, hokey special effects, and uber-dramatic music ensues as our square-jawed hero must fight to survive as one of the few people with their eyesight still intact. It ain't War of the Worlds, but it's so much more entertaining than I expected it to be. This is classic science fiction right here, seemingly ripped straight from old pulp mags. Triffids are my new favorite plant monsters now.

The first two-thirds of this movie are simply amazing. Yeah, it deviates from the novel, but the reasons make sense and you really stick with Will Smith and the overwhelming feeling of lonely terror gets under your skin. I was losing it for a while there, sucked in completely.
And then something happens, the third act kicks in, and the movie drops the ball and takes a nosedive, never recovering. That completely severed my connection, pulled me out of the experience, and I was just annoyed until the ending, and it's such a shame that they effed up so miserably like that when the majority of the movie was so amazing up until that point.
The Dark Knight trailer was damn good, though...as was getting to see the new Cloverfield trailer again, heh.

Incredibly surreal and bizarre extraterrestrial story. The creatures and landscapes vaguely remind me of the Codex Seraphinianus (if anyone knows what that is). Just...strange.

I could never get through the novel, and I almost couldn't get through this, but it certainly is a chilling adaptation. If only I were more political-minded...

I thought I had reviewed this before? Oh well. I never got past the end of the second disc of the game so I'm not quite the expert, but I feel I put enough hours of my life into it that I can say this: As many characters, as many epic moments, as crazy and awesome as the story and everything concerning that game is, there is nothing, literally NOTHING that Squaresoft can do to best that game. None of the subsequent games, none of the spinoff sequel games they've been pumping out recently, NOTHING they do will be as great as that game was.
Especially not a movie. There's just no way. You can't get as epic or dense of a story out of a movie as you can from a game. So once you get that in your head, set aside all the fanboy complaints about this character getting too much screentime and this character not getting enough, it's not bad at all. The animation is downright AMAZING, the action is tight, and the heavy metal version of One Winged Angel is one of the best pieces of music I've ever heard. So, yeah. It's not perfect, but like I said, expecting it to be as great as the game itself is an overshot...

Okay, so I can see why people hated it. But I enjoyed it a lot. It's incredibly intense, especially on a visual level. The whole religious/philosophical stuff is kind of underplayed, which I liked. Not perfect, but still really damn good science fiction.

Certain things about this movie do bother me, like the Queen Alien getting on the Lift and the fact that Sigourney Weaver looks way too much like this one cousin of mine. Also, the "Game over man, game over!" line. The rest however is awesome and this flick set the standard for what a good sci fi action movie SHOULD be.
