Seen in 2009

I thought this would be a nice, awful little horror movie, just the way I like them. So I can't even start to describe the shock when I watched this movie and actually liked it, and not because it was bad, but because it was actually pretty good.

And I have absolutely no idea why I liked this movie. There was some pretty bad acting, typical characters, predictable events, and they didn't even bother to explain what the hell was actually wrong with those damn ruins.

Just.. what the hell?

I can't even remember the last time I've been this disappointed with a movie. Sure, I had hear a lot of bad things about Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, but I thought it couldn't be that bad. I simply love The Mummy, The Mummy Returns is also great and even though I haven't seen The Scorpion King in years what I remember of it I thought it was pretty decent. But this.. just.. no. Not like this.

First, Maria Bello replacing Rachel Weisz as Evelyn? I've always been against replacing characters with different actors, and even though I've always found Evy kind of annoying, but it's still been fun watching her. But now she felt like a completely unnecessary character, they could've just put a piece of a cardboard box there or something.
Second, the must have "a-young-kid-who-hates-his-parents-but-is-forced-to-work-with-them-and-then-starts-to-like-them-again" situation. Yeah, very original.
Third, "two-kids-around-same-age-pretend-they-don't-like-each-other-and-then-fall-in-love" situation. Seriously, the writer of this movie has probably never heard the word "originality".
And fourth, why on earth there are snow and yetis in a movie which is meant to be about mummies?

Well, after listing so many bad things about this movie, I have still something good. I thought the special effects were pretty cool, and Brendan Fraser is still great as Rick O'Connell. But still, unless they get Rachel Weisz back into Evelyn's role and make a really, really good script, I really hope they don't make fourth movie.

I watched Be Cool a few years back, and thought it was pretty hilarious. But then I kept running into a lot of comments saying it was crap compared to it's prequel, Get Shorty, which is why I couldn't wait until I'd see it. So after seeing this movie, I can't even say how disappointed I am, because to me this movie was nothing special. The actors were great, the plot was okay [even though at times I found it predictable], but I couldn't help but feel bored while watching it.

This is definitely THE best film adaptation of Dracula I've seen so far.

The only reason why I gave this movie a full star instead of half is because it was actually made.
