Badlands (1973,  PG)
2
Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949,  Unrated)
Kind Hearts and Coronets
the most charming film about a serial killer ever made! justly celebrated tour de force for alec guiness playing no less than 8 roles but the film is carried by dennis price as the murderous would be duke and joan greenwood as his duplicitous lady love, sibella. revenge is a dish that people of taste prefer cold.
3
Le Boucher (1971,  Unrated)
Le Boucher
a beautiful quiet thriller, simply amazing. every bit as good as hitchcock; very nearly perfect! most romantic serial killer film i've seen lol
4
Vengeance Is Mine (1979,  Unrated)
Vengeance Is Mine
powerful character study of a sociopath. ken ogata gives a great performance as conman iwao enokizu, a womanizing, haiku spouting serial killer, whose strange family relationships are illuminated through time-shifting flashbacks. based on a true story, it's no ordinary serial killer film.
5
Hangover Square (1945,  Unrated)
Hangover Square
a great little known gothic thriller with a pretty neat plot device: discordant sounds send a composer into a homicidal trance! with laird cregar, george sanders and linda darnell as the femme fatale. shot in gorgeous noir style with a wonderful score by bernard hermann
6
I Pugni in tasca (Fists in the Pocket) (1965,  Unrated)
I Pugni in tasca (Fists in the Pocket)
this is brilliant. a milestone of sixties film and still amazingly fresh. lou castel's performance as a disturbed man hatching a matter-of-fact plan to get rid of his troublesome family is incredibly chilling, at times bordering on the blackest of comedies. with a lovely eerie score by morricone. i will never hear la traviata again without thinking of this film
7
The Silence of the Lambs (1991,  R)
8
M (1931,  Unrated)
9
Shadow of a Doubt (1943,  PG)
10
No Country for Old Men (2007,  R)
No Country for Old Men
the coens are back. this is the best film i've seen in the theater this year. a looming atmosphere of dread propels this story into a profound meditation on the nature of evil. and javier bardem finally comes into his own. nuff said; go see it
11
The Ruling Class (1972,  PG)
The Ruling Class
wicked satire on the aristocracy...with musical numbers! o'toole chews scenery as the mad 14th earl of gurney and i love the bolshevik butler! a really dark and bizarre comedy
12
Seven (Se7en) (1995,  R)
13
Zodiac (2007,  R)
14
Summer of Sam (1999,  R)
15
Cure (1998,  Unrated)
Cure
excellent hypnotic serial killer thriller. this is the creepiest film i've seen in some time. much better than average j-horror.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007,  R)
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
first off this is my favorite broadway show so my expectations were very high. and i'm pleased to say this is a very well done adaptation of sondheim's brilliant musical for misanthropes and somewhat restores my faith in burton who is well suited to this material. depp is very good, helena's singing may be a bit weak but she's perfect in every other way, amusing turn by sacha baron cohen and the boy who plays toby has a lovely voice. and of course alan rickman is always fun! fair warning, it is operatic (read: ALOT of singing) and very bloody but if u like dark and twisted u may well love it. i'm very happy this work will finally get a wider audience. see it at the theater if u can. enjoy!

Profundo carmesí (Deep Crimson) (1996,  Unrated)
Profundo carmesí (Deep Crimson)
an obese nurse meets a balding lothario and they form an obsessive relationship based on their mutual insecurities. a beautifully done mexican adaptation of the lonely hearts murder case of the 1940's with some truly haunting scenes and a lovely score
18
Peeping Tom (1960,  Unrated)
19
The Lodger (1944,  Unrated)
The Lodger
an atmospheric remake of hitchcock's silent. laird cregar was so brilliant in this film that it trapped him forever. after being cast in a similar part in the director's next film, hangover square, he went on a crash diet in hopes of becoming a leading man, which ultimately killed him.
20
Matador (1986,  NC-17)
Matador
torture porn? necrophilia? that's just the first five minutes...then it gets weird. one twisted and hilarious waltz of sex and death
21
Citizen X (1995,  R)
Citizen X
well done hbo film based on the case of ukrainian serial killer andrei chikatilo, convicted of killing 52 women and children. good cast including donald sutherland and max von sydow. stephen rea plays the investigator who followed the case for seven years despite much interference from soviet bureaucracy. patchy russian accents but very factual
22
Natural Born Killers (1994,  NC-17)
23
The Minus Man (1999,  R)

"badlands" seems kinda odd in serial killer gendre...but it's terrific indeed. "badlands" feels more like bonnie and clyde going astray into mass killers.

oh, how about "natural born killers"?

You might want to add "No Way to Treat a Lady (1968)" starring Rod Steiger, George Segal and Lee Remick. :)
