  dan9fromouterspace's Rating My Rating
1
The Nightmare Before Christmas (2008,  PG)
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Great movie, too bad it's fans can sometimes be almost as annoying as star wars nerds.
2
Vincent (1982,  G)
Vincent
Tim Burton's short and sweet ode to Vincent Price narrated by none other than Mr.Price himself. I believe anyone who stayed up to watch classic B/W horror movies on tv as a kid can relate to this short.
3
Frankenweenie (1992,  PG)
Frankenweenie
Early work from Tim Burton back when he created strange movies with fresh original ideas rather than resorting to mediocre remakes.
4
Child's Play (1988,  R)
Child's Play
It got laughed it in the 80s but now it's considered a classic right up there with Freddy, Jason, Hellraiser and the rest.
5
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941,  Unrated)
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
I'll admit i haven't seen the 1931 original yet, so in light of that i'll just say that i enjoyed this one and leave it at that for now.
6
Ghoulies (1985,  PG-13)
Ghoulies
This satanic Gremlins knock-off gets filed under "So Bad It's Good" in my books.
7
976-Evil (1989,  R)
976-Evil
er.....um......the um weird telephone ringing is kind of scary.
8
Carrie (1976,  R)
Carrie
Had i known proms could be this much fun i actually would have gone to mine. The first of the king adaptations has one of the best endings ever.
9
Freaks (1932,  Unrated)
Freaks
Creepy classic from the director of Dracula and the creepiest part is that the freaks are real. PLUS: It inspired the Ramones song "Pinhead", Gabba Gabba Hey!
10
Once Bitten (1985,  PG-13)
Once Bitten
I actually really like this movie for what it is ; an 80's teen sex comedy. I've been a fan of Jim Carrey's since i first saw this in 85 and that was before i even found out that he's canadian and that it's mandatory by canadian law that i be a fan.
11
Bug (1975,  PG)
Bug
What starts out as typical 70's cheesy killer insect fare (they re-used the Brady Bunch set, there's a death scene in Alice's kitchen), takes a strange Cronenberg-esque turn in the second half. Horror fans looking for something different should definitely check it out. I really hope they didn't remake this but i have a funny feeling they have.
12
The Haunting (1963,  Unrated)
13
Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf (1989,  Unrated)
14
House of Wax (1953,  PG)
15
The Creeping Terror (Dangerous Charter) (The Crawling Monster) (1964,  Unrated)
The Creeping Terror (Dangerous Charter) (The Crawling Monster)
A serious contender for the worse monster ever, it's not the worse movie i've ever seen but that's only because i've watched alot of bad movies.
16
The War of the Worlds (1953,  G)
The War of the Worlds
Ever wonder if Spielberg watches this constantly in an attempt to figure out where he went wrong. Considering it's over 50 years old this classic holds up astonishingly well.
17
Gojira (1956,  Unrated)
18
Cloverfield (2008,  PG-13)
Cloverfield
C'mon who hasn't imagined they were in a monster movie? At one time or another we've all pondered what we would do if we were one of those little people scurrying from Godzillas mighty wrath. This is about as close as you're gonna get and if u allow yourself to suspend your disbelief you get alot of bang for your buck. I recommend u see it on a large screen with blaring surround sound to fully appreciate it tho.
19
Pit and the Pendulum (The Pit and the Pendulum) (1961,  Unrated)
20
The Evil Dead (1981,  NC-17)
The Evil Dead
Who would have thought that during the 80s a bunch of kids with no money would make one of the greatest horror movies ever.
21
House of 1000 Corpses (2003,  R)
22
Ernest Scared Stupid (1991,  PG)
23
Zombie Nightmare (1986,  R)
24
Fright Night (1985,  R)
25
Shaun of the Dead (2004,  R)
Shaun of the Dead
If killing zombies and throwing back a few pints with your mates is your idea of a good time this is the movie for u. A very witty comedy/horror that I never grow tired of.
26
Bloodlust! (1961,  Unrated)
27
The Lost Boys (1987,  R)
The Lost Boys
In my opinion this goes right up there with The Breakfast Club when talking about definitive movies of the 80s. It pits The Coreys against Jim Morrison obsessed vampires, does it get any better?
28
Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (2007,  R)
Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer
Like Hatchet this backlash against the CGI ridden mediocre crap coming out of hollywood nowadays is like a breath of fresh air. I give it extra marks for it's use of latex, puppets and real fake blood. Besides Robert Englund's performance is damn entertaining.
29
Hatchet (2006,  R)
Hatchet
More fun than " a bag of dicks", oh how i miss the 80s sometimes.
30
From Dusk Till Dawn (1996,  R)
31
House of Usher (The Fall of the House of Usher) (1960,  Unrated)
32
Of Unknown Origin (1983,  R)
Of Unknown Origin
Most people don't consider this canadian gem to be a horror movie but if you're squeamish about rats you just might be scared by this strange little movie.
33
Revenge of the Creature (1955,  Unrated)
Revenge of the Creature
The plot borrows heavily from King Kong and there are some unintentional laughs (as well as an intentional one involving a young uncredited Clint Eastwood), but the star of the show "Gill Man" makes this a classic monster movie.
34
Jaws 3 (1983,  PG)
Jaws 3
A couple good scenes, but minus the 3D it's almost entirely crap.
35
A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 - Dream Warriors (1987,  R)
A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 - Dream Warriors
In my opinion this is when Freddy peaked, both as a movie franchise and in popularity. Tho not as good a movie as part one Dream Warriors has always been my favourite as it struck the right balance of scary and funny.
36
Munster, go Home! (1966,  Unrated)
Munster, go Home!
Considered a flop at the time of it's release it has become a staple of many a horror fans childhood. Besides it gave us the term "Dragula".
37
Cabin Fever (2002,  R)
38
Amityville II: The Possession (1982,  R)
Amityville II: The Possession
Way too over the top to be believable which was what made the first one scary.
39
Evil Dead 2 (1987,  R)
Evil Dead 2
Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell kick ass with an assault of wild camera work, one liners that would give Arnold a semi, gore, and one of the best endings ever.
40
Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers (1987,  Unrated)
41
The Invisible Man Returns (1940,  Unrated)
42
End of Days (1999,  R)
43
Poltergeist (1982,  PG)
44
Hostel (2006,  R)
45
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923,  Unrated)
46
Return of the Fly (1959,  Unrated)
47
Hillbillys in a Haunted House (1967,  Unrated)
48
The Curse of the Living Corpse (1964,  Unrated)
49
13 Ghosts (1960,  Unrated)
50
Destroyer (1988,  R)
51
Wrestlemaniac (El Mascarado Massacre) (2006,  Unrated)
52
Blacula (1972,  PG)
53
Bloody Murder (1999,  R)
54
Furankenshutain tai chitei kaijū Baragon (Frankenstein Conquers the World) (1965,  Unrated)
55
Zhong gui (Seeding of a Ghost) (1983,  Unrated)
56
Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943,  Unrated)
Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man
The scariest thing in this movie is the weird Octoberfest guy singing for no reason half way thru the film, what's with that?, it was like the wolfman had wondered onto the set of a musical. That silliness aside this is a pretty good monster flick, although I would have prefered Karloff as Big Frank(sorry Bela).
57
Dawn of the Dead (1979,  R)
Dawn of the Dead
A little dated, but still alot of fun. Watching zombies lurch to 70s mall music is always a good time.
58
Dracula's Daughter (1936,  Unrated)
59
The Mummy's Hand (1940,  Unrated)
60
The Changeling (1980,  R)
61
Zombi 2 (Zombie) (Zombie Flesh Eaters) (Zombie 2: The Dead are Among Us)(Island of the Flesh-Eaters) (1980,  R)
62
Friday the 13th Part 3 (1982,  R)
63
Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari. (The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari) (1920,  Unrated)
64
Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror) (Nosferatu the Vampire) (1922,  Unrated)
65
It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966,  Unrated)
66
Mad Monster Party (1967,  Unrated)
