Private Lessons (1981,  R)
Private Lessons
15-year-old rich kid Philly Fillmore(Eric Brown) has quite an adventurous summer, especially while his dad was away on a business trip. He gets seduced by the sexy new housekeeper Miss Mallow(Sylvia Kristel of Emmanuelle fame) who gives great 'private lessons'. Little does he know that she is only a pawn in the family chauffeur's scheme to blackmail him. Howard Hesseman is great as the snide chauffeur, Lester. Ed Begley Jr. is good as a tennis instructor posing as a detective. One of a long line of male coming-of-age/ fantasy fulfillment stories, with plenty of boobs and cheesiness. I'm sure Eric Brown had fun making this movie, this one seemed a little more explicit than most of the time period. Maybe it was the age difference. Decent 70s soundtrack sets the mood with three Rod Stewart songs along with tunes by Eric Clapton, John Cougar(Mellencamp), Earth Wind & Fire, Randy Vanwarmer and Air Supply!

Blazing Saddles (1974,  R)
Blazing Saddles
My favorite Mel Brooks movie. The ultimate politically incorrect comedy- managing to insult probably everyone.
Story is set in the late 1800s and centers on an incompetent Governor whose right -hand man (Hedley) is scheming to help the railroad industry. He makes devious plans to scare off the entire town of Rock Ridge, clearing the way for a new rail line being built. When the dumb governor hears about pleas for help from the simple townsfolk, Hedley talks him into sending a black sheriff to 'help' the town out. He expects the townspeople to kill him, therefore leaving them vulnerable, but instead is continually thwarted by the coolness and ingenuity of Bart and his new sidekick, Jim, the Waco KId. This movie was co-written by Richard Pryor, the Sheriff Bart character was meant for him. Unfortunately it was not to be, but Cleavon Little does a fabulous job as Bart. Gene Wilder is great as The Waco Kid. Madeline Kahn, Harvey Korman and Slim Pickens were hilarious! Mel Brooks and Dom DeLuise had humorous parts as well. Tons of one-liners, spoofs and hilarious quotes in this classic 70s comedy.

Madonna - Truth or Dare (1991,  R)
Madonna - Truth or Dare
Interesting behind the scenes look at Madonna in her prime, intermixed with great concert footage. Madonna was really fearless in letting the filmmaker into her life, giving the viewer a real inside look at her and all her ambition and the craziness of her life at the top of the pop heap. See her boyfriend at the time, Warren Beatty, Sandra Bernhart, Antonio Banderas, family and friends. You also get some great truth or dare challenges from her and her backup singers and dancers. A real slice of Madonna's life during her 1990 tour.

Flash Gordon (1980,  PG)
Flash Gordon
One of the greatest sci-fi cheese movies ever! Flash Gordon, Dale Arden and Dr. Hans Zarkov team up to stop Ming the Merciless from blowing up the earth! While the ruler of the universe, Ming, sets his sights on Dale, Flash finds some allies amongst Ming's underlings while racing against the countdown clock. Max Von Sydow is great as the devilish Ming. Sam Jones is perfectly cheesy and hot as the macho footballer, Flash. Melody Anderson is equally cheesy as the helpless dame with moxie- Dale. Future James Bond Timothy Dalton has a good part as Prince Barin. Bonus points for the soundtrack by Queen!

Elephant Parts (1981,  Unrated)
Elephant Parts
This little-known gem from ex-Monkee Michael Nesmith is always a fun watch.
Music videos interspersed with funny and some corny comedy skits still holds up pretty well after it's 1981 release. You get to learn the pirate alphabet, watch the vegetarian hunter, go to the Rock n' Roll Hospital and try to "Name That Drug." See spoof ads for bad horror movies, the military, car companies, typing services, "Elvis Drugs," fake TV shows, art dealers, and even "Neighborhood Nuclear Superiority." The music videos range from mellow to catchy pop rock tunes, including the winner of the very first "Video of the Year" Grammy- "Rio."
The dvd has some great extras not included in the vhs and laserdisc versions- extra skits and an awesome commentary track by Michael Nesmith. We get to hear how the video was made on a shoestring budget, funny anecdotes, and how he came up with the concept that would later become MTV.
A must see for fans of Nesmith and good cheesy early 80s comedies! It goes smashingly well with "Marnagritas" :D

Eyes of Laura Mars (1978,  R)
Eyes of Laura Mars
This 70s thriller is one of my favorites, the storyline is just so creepy. Laura Mars (Faye Dunaway) is an artist who photographs sexy models for a living. When she starts seeing through the eyes of a killer as he murders his victims, she enlists the aid of a detective (Tommy Lee Jones) to help find the killer, before he finds her! Good 70s disco clothing and tunes! K.C., Heatwave, Michael Zager Band, Odyssey, and one of my fave Streisand songs! But don't let the soundtrack scare you off of this great 70s paranormal mystery!
