The Sea Inside (Mar Adentro) (The Sea Within) (2004,  PG-13)
The Sea Inside (Mar Adentro) (The Sea Within)
Based on the profundly moving true story that captured the worlds attention about Euthanasy. Sea inside is a true story about Ramon Sampedro, who fought a 30 year campaign to win the right to end his life with dignity.

well, after watching this movie, I cant rate it 10 stars, cuz Flixster rating goes till 5. Otherwise I could have rate it 10. This is a movie that when you see it, you realize how lucky you are and how happy you should be and how thankful you must be for the live you have now. If you see the life tht Ramon has lived during all those years, than you will realise, that Euthansy is a topic to discuss. But peoples life is something tht you as owner of your life can decide of it. I think Euthanasy is for some people a taboo and for some a easy way out. But its personally. And I have not the right to judge about that.
The movie is so deeply emotional, drama fans who can afford such a profound commotion then I recommend you to watch it. The movie is a perfect movie based on a true story, was worhty to win the academy award for best foreigner movie in 2004.
Well I have to say see this movie, its worthy, I will watch it one more time and I will buy it for my collection. No doubt about it.
I have to say it again, thanks Hun, for one more of your best recommendations, what will I do without you? Watch bad movies I guess, Thanks.

In guess there are few filmmakers who can tell such a beautiful and sad story as Almodovar does here in Talk to Her. And only he can create such a surreal world that pulls us in and shows us the beauty and subject of love. I was all lost in this movie, and I felt so much anger, anger on how someone could have done this act to a person in coma. Almodovar has proved just how much a master he has become in the total craft of film-making. ( and I did not know his work before this movie) But I have some great movie teachers, so in no way I can't complain.

The writer has created characters that touch us very deep and although we see and hear so little, the director has managed to craft their world in such a way as we see what they see and therefore through their relationships, see who they are. I liked that in the movie.

The sensual nature of the film and Almodovar's ability to play with the beauty of the body and the strange intimacy of the characters work to perfection. This will be considered one of the great films I have ever seen,

Maria Full of Grace (2004,  R)
Maria Full of Grace
In a small village in Colombia, the pregnant seventeen years old Maria (Catalina Sandino Moreno) supports her family with her salary working in a floriculture. She is fired and with a total lack of perspective of finding a new job, she decides to accept the offer to work as a drug mule, flying to USA with sixty-two pellets of cocaine in her stomach. Once in New York, things do not happen as planned.

I really liked this movie a lot. It's refreshing to come across a compelling human drama that is told in such an incredibly honest and unexaggerated fashion that it ends up feeling wonderfully real and completely believable. The rather straight forward story only makes the movie feel more convincing.

Maria Alvarez, played by previous Catalina Sandino Moreno, is a seventeen year old who falls into the sticky-sweet trap of seeking a quick escape from the hopelessness of her mundane existence. She turns to drugs. Not using them, though - smuggling them. Working as a drug mule offers her the chance at easy money. But, like most young people, she dives into it headlong - without fully realizing the risks and possible deadly consequences. In fact, this movie really is all about young people stumbling over their own poor jugdements.

Given all the hype that surrounded this movie, I found it to be not quite as harrowing as I had expected. Perhaps I'm just too jaded. In truth, there were moments where I felt genuinely afraid for Maria. Mostly, though, there was just a real sense of the despair and desperation that fills the lives of these young Colombians.

In the spirit of keeping it genuine, all the acting in this movie is right on the mark - all the actors deliver. Of course, Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria) is so graced with natural beauty and she projects such a gentle and humble manner that one can't really help but feel empathy for her character. .

The melancholic music throughout this film - with plenty of beautiful acoustic guitar playing and salsa, supports the emotional content of the movie perfectly. Thankfully, it doesn't bang you on the head with "feel sad here", and "feel scared here", and "feel relieved here".
It sinks back a bit to find its harmony with the other elements. Nice.

The cinematography is beautiful in its simplicity and its understated manner. The word "modest" - in its best sense to describe this movie.

In conclusion, this movie teaches us is that it's also not a good idea to be a mule. Actually where I live here in the Caribbean we get this kind of problem as an everyday story, So many mules are coming from Colombia and uses our tiny island to hop for Europe. And it is the poverty that makes these people go to the utmost to risk their lives to do this job.

Open Your Eyes (Abre los ojos) (Permanent Midnight) (1999,  R)
Open Your Eyes (Abre los ojos) (Permanent Midnight)
Although the plot was confusing at times, the story was between dreams and reality. Most of the time I was not sure if what I was watching was really happening or whether it was a nightmare. Eduardo Noriega's acting was so good it's beyond belief, and so was the "disfiguring" makeup.

There was so much I liked about this film. First of all, the script. The dialogue between Sofia and Cesar at first meeting was so natural and believable. The four main characters were absolutely charming and have a connection between each other that is rarely seen in films. This is either good casting or good acting, or maybe a bit of both. As the story unfolds I was completely absorbed. I may not be fully aware of what was happening at times, but I was convinced that an explanation will come in the end.

One question: was Vanilla Sky a remake of this Spanish Movie? Still they had different endings, or am I wrong?

This is a very well written movie based on reality. Actor's performances are great. I like the movie because is a drama of an immigrant whom driven by the bad economic situation of her country, was forced to leave the homeland and work as a prostitute in Madrid Spain. She was promised for a visa to stay legally in the country, but they just used her. She met Caye who is just a prostitute too They understand each other and they create a true friendship until Zulema has to leave the country because her HIV results came back positive. A very human story that is worth to see it.
